  • I love watching this video. Brings back good memories :)

  • nice vid! going there on monday

  • the top corner of half dome looks like an eagle

  • should i do this?

  • @atumanov55

    "should I do this?"

Absolutely! Just make sure you're well prepared (in shape while bringing all the right stuff) and you'll have a blast. Promise.

  • @jimmywildthang i will its just it looks pretty steep

  • @atumanov55

Not going to lie, it looks pretty steep when you're facing the mountain, but if you take it one step at a time, you'll be fine. Just make sure to bring some solid gripping gloves to help you hold onto the rope.

  • @atumanov55 DO IT!! DO IT!! DO IT!! You won't regret it. I can't even explain to you how amazing it is:)

  • How long was did it take you to complete this trail ?

  • @xeng26

We were on track to finish it in about 10 hours but because the cables were EXTREMELY crowded when we went. Which was on a holiday monday, it took us over 11 hours.

  • Watching this video pumps me up for my Yosemite trip. My friends and I will climb Half Dome on August 18, 2011.

  • @asanche79

Awesome! Have you done the hike before?

  • This will be my first time to half dome but I have gone to the bottom and back to the top of the grand canyon. also locally where I live I have climbed high up to the summit of mt. wilson, an elevation gain of over 3000 feet.

  • @asanche79

Awesome! I've been seriously contemplating hiking The Grand Canyon this year. How did you like it and what time of year would you recommend going?

  • I really enjoyed the canyon hike. My friends and I were well prepared so we had no major incidents. If you like crowds, then the best time to go is the summer. If you want to experience it without the crowds, the best time to go is winter. Just carry tire chains as winter conditions exist throughout the northern arizona region.

  • omg, you standing on the side of half dome scared the shit out of me. i wouldnt be scared if i was secured to something

  • @jukio02

Haha. Are you talking about the cables or the very last bit where I'm at the lip of Half Dome?

Either way, I once heard a quote from American writer and humanitarian Kurt Vonnegut that read, “I want to stand as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all the kinds of things you can't see from the center.”

That quote simply resonated with me and has allowed me to, in my opinion, do some pretty cool things in life.

  • @jimmywildthang the last bit, that was insane! the part where you said if you fell over, you'd be dead. your one crazy son of a bitch, in a good way though, talk about living on the edge!

  • I go up the Mist Trail during the day and down the JMT at night. John Muir is dryer at night and a majority is paved at the end. It's much safer if you're coming down at night, no slippery paths, it's paved, the steps are actual steps, etc etc. My Halfdome videos in on the right. It's 9:59

  • Those cables scared the heck out of me, and I don't get scared easily! Gorgeous view from the top and a heck of an experience:-)

  • @Ricovaca1987

I was amazed to see a lot of people hike all the way up to subdome to skip out on the cables. Sure it can be a scary sight, but that's personally one of the reasons why I made the 16 mile trek all the way up there.

And the view is totally worth it. ;)

  • @Ricovaca1987

Yeah, I went up the Mist trail and came down the John Muir as well. That's the way I'd recommend people to go. And great vid, btw!

  • I actually live in Fresno...not to far from Yosemite. I was born in L.A. But yeah it'll be fun. Thanks!

  • Dang that's crazy! Well I'm suppose to go back in two weeks. Hopefully I'll have enough energy to document it lol. I'll send it to you so you can tell me what you think. Check out my channel. I posted up some videos of our trip. Nothing compared to yours but it'll bring back some good memories :)

  • @Deelighful

Yea, I saw some of them. Crazy that you are doing it again so soon considering you leave in LA? That's not too close...lol. Well, hope you have fun!

  • My bad! No it wasn't crowded at all. When we got there there was no line.We went half way up the dome until we had to wait. It only took like 20 min. to reach the top. Then on the way down it was amazing because mostly everyone was headed down since it was bout 5:30ish. There wasn't that many people left. The view was so fantastic. I think only those have experienced it can truly appreciate your video :)

  • @Deelighful

Going up the cables took us about an hour and a half. It was insanely packed.

"I think only those have experienced it can truly appreciate your video"

Well, I hope other people will be able to enjoy this vid as well. Hopefully it encourages people to want to go out and do it. That's the goal.

  • I went the day after you, July 22, 2010. It was amazing. We made it to the top. I'm gonna go again and I want to document it like you. I really liked your video. Awesome job :)

  • @Deelighful

I actually went on June 21, but I'm glad you enjoyed my video. Obviously there is a lot more to the hike, but I tried to capture the important parts.

Just out of curiosity, was it as crowded when you went? It was packed when I went up!

  • Cool video, thanks for sharing.

  • @jdm2104

Awesome. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
