  • Isnt this the final episode that never actually aired until a documentary years and years later>??? Because i do own the entire Judy Garland show season....And i could have sworn this was not on it, but there were parts of it in the documentary disc I have of the Judy Garland show documentary???? idk, maybe im wrong.....But going to see Liza in Atlantic City in March!!!

  • @jrbflyme This is one of the extras included in the 2nd boxed set of DVDs of the television series.

  • Is this video from the live-performance recorded for "Judy Takes Broadway" at the Manhattan Center in New York City on April 26, 1962? I ask because this song isn't listed on that album. If not, when and where was this clip recorded?

  • @2much4mymirror No, It's from the final taping session for her last CBS TV show. Read Coyne Steve Sanders's RAINBOW'S END, an excellent book about the the making of her television series.

  • One of the biggest mistakes in television history was when CBS let her go. How could you do nothing but adore this woman? I mean her voice was golden....its like when she sang.....she was singing right to you and nobody else. I once watched an interview with Mickey Rooney and he said people wanted her to be like another Edith Piaf.......almost like they wanted to see her hurt or fail. But, one thing we all know.....She was bigger than them all. And always will be!!!!

  • Every fiber of her soul & being is poured in to this stunning & magnificent performance showing Judy is truly the greatest performer of this past century & beyond...why "The Judy Garland Show" didn't continue confused me as a teen and still to this day feel had it continued Judy would have been around more years & what a loss this magical lady was gone too soon but leaves behind wondrous gems like "Here's TO Us" for all to savor and enjoy over and over...Bravo Judy, love you & RIP

  • judy's just bigger than anyone, isn't she? she put all of her blood, sweat, and tears into all her performances.

  • absolutely bloody well marvolous, love u so much judy

  • how the hell did this show ever rate as low as it did with audiences??? I think it was a brilliant thing that Judy was doing and they should have let her try another season

  • it's a great performance!

  • Here's to us tonight..not for what might happen next year cause it might not be nearly as bright!

another prophetical song by Judy as if she knew troubles lay ahead. I love this song by her. always trying to be optimistic under daunting circumstances.

  • How cute she had Milk on hand to give to her Kids so they could join and toast Judy and her fans! A great clip! Judy will always be Larger than life and her Legend will never die, not as long as we have her Movies,TV and recordings!

  • Another prophetical number by Judy.

Not for what might happen next year because tomorrow may not be as bright.

almost like she saw her future.

I love this song and her peformance.

  • Can you imagine how powerful this number would have been as the series closer had they done a montage of all the great moments in the previous episodes? I know we all are mad at CBS for not giving her a second season - but at least they preserved on excellent tape this burst of Garland creativity. It always amuses me when people say that she was unreliable. Think of the body of work this woman has left behind - unsurpassed, excellent work!

  • Here's to us; my darling, my dear -

just about says it all - love's the thing

  • i had this played at my wedding ceremony and it went down really well

  • Again, Bradly hyas it down 100%. Here's to all of us who love Judy, friends or not.

  • I hope that you can hear this where ever you are, Judy........thanks for giving us everything you had. You were one of a kind.

  • I get so angry when I think how CBS did everything they could to destroy her show. This was JUDY GARLAND! You don't cancel the most talented woman ever to set foot on a stage.

  • Thank you so much for posting!! There are so many things about it that I LOVE. Swapping the champers for milk for Joe in the audience, the sentment of the song and the song itself (a favourite of mine). Had no idea it existed and I'm grateful for being able to see it!

  • read mel torme's biopic on Judy The Other Side Of The Rainbow (1971) for a revealing account of this taping that never aired

  • Actually, don't read Mel Torme's book at all. He lies and makes things up. Read Coyne Steven Sanders's "Rainbow's End: The Judy Garland Show"--it's a much better account.

  • @mitchellivers Have you ever read Gerald Frank's "JUDY"? do you know how accurate that is?

  • I did a paper for one of my college communications courses about Judy. I ripped on how MGM and the other studios exploited her awesome talent, got her hooked on the drugs that eventually led to her demise, and as this act suggests, by the end she knew they played her for a clown. Despite all of that, she continues to resonate as a Golden Standard. I would trade all the clowns we have today making "music" just to have Judy back.

  • Can you imagine how this show would be percieved today - Amazing

  • was this the last segment ever recorded for the show? obviously it was filmed as such. how interesting to go out dressed in a clown outfit, but she did that on another show to great effect. interesting that cbs apparently didn't idolize her the way we do today. corny old 60s. they should have given her just a few big shows, but instead i guess she had to sing for her supper with weekly shows. haven't seen many but they seem droll.

  • @up2space You're right that it was intended as the final number for the show, but in fact this was filmed after she had done a number called "Where is the Clown?" which explains the clown costume. That number was cut, and hence this number as a finale wasn't used because the producers believed it would be too jarring and inexplicable for the audience if Judy went from being dressed in an evening gown to a clown suddenly in the final number. Instead I believe they used "When the Sun Comes Out".

  • @up2space no, actually it was the first thing taped when the audience was let in.

  • It's such a shame that this wasn't aired...for it is one of the greatest of her performances! THanks for the post!

  • After the first few words she sang, I just had to pause the video to write this. She was incredible. She just gets better and better. Love her!

  • Well, I hope you watched the rest of it.

  • Definitely :] thanks for posting it

  • What a swan song! Incredibly moving moment after she receives her bouquet of flowers and just stands there, as if to say you didn't want me! No one will ever touch her magic, artistry and humanity. One question, was this version ever aired?

  • Judy was so upset that this was her last show that she locked herself in her dressing room for hours and wouldn't come out. When she finally did she sang the song The Last Dance. That story was told to me by a older Judy fan that I spoke to years ago. He was involved with people who did The Judy Garland Show. This is very touching to watch wondering what she must have been going through. Judy loved singing and entertaining.

  • Sorry!!!! My finger slipped!! This a FIVE STAR RATING!!!!

  • Did she know at the time this was her last performance, I mean of her show?

  • yes. She taped this first...and then at 2:30 in the morning she resumed taping late into the hours of March 14th.

  • what excelent sound recording...it sounds like the best of today's technology...it is amazing recording engineering...

  • A performance like that and all you can mention is the SOUND? Watch it again, bub.

  • oh...that goes without saying...after all, this woman is a part of our spiritual being, she nurtured us all..of course!!

bravo to her and her legacy forever, old chum!!

  • I'd like to post a toast to the late author and Judy devotee Scott Schecter. This is t he song I think of him for him. Wayne

  • how old is she and what year was tis??

  • She's 41; the show finished in 1964.

  • Witch year was this concert from?

and witch country, town or state?

    I love you, Garland!

  • I found the song on itunes for those of you who want to purchase it.

  • Truly heartbreaking. I can't watch it without crying. Judy at the end of the line with more talent, gumption, courage and power than anyone has a right to expect. Only at 3.59 do we see the momentary collapse of the dream.

  • Baggy pants tramp, clown, or glamor the look ALWAYS took a back seat to the voice and what a voice it was.Thank you so much for posting this.I had not seen it in its entirety.Judy was so REAL and down to earth. I had to laugh as she gave a bottle of milk to one of her children in the audience. If it had to end and end it did there could not have possibly been a greater finale. BRAVO!

  • Judy was a trooper to the very end.She could sing in glamor or tramp or clown. How she looked didn't matter so much.Judy's V O I C E! Now that mattered a great deal. For a show that was never aired,I am so greatful that you posted the best finale that ever was.

  • I think the reason they didn't air it is because of the moment she takes off her hat. Probably nobody was expecting her to do that and her hair was a mess. They were so CAREFUL back then. But what a wonderful talent - unapproachable - a miracle.

  • Not quite. Read Steve Sanders's book about the TV series, RAINBOW'S END.

  • Is there a studio recording of this song anywhere done by Judy. It's one of my favorites and I haven't found it anywhere.....

  • No, there's not. That's why I posted it.

  • Ah, well thank you very much for doing so!

  • yes thank u so much

  • This is a wonderful clip...the song pretty much described her life, as she tried to "muddle through" all of her own overwhelming problems...she is full of energy here and it shows...a wonderful tribute

  • This pulls at the heart strings

  • Judy should have song 6 or 7 songs that she knew like the back of her hand:"You'll never walk alone", "It Never was you", "You go to my head" etc ending with this brilliant rendition of Cy Coleman's song "Here's to us". I think everyone was in such turmoil that they didn't realize that they could have had JUDY sing songs she new. They didn't have to be all new songs, although she did sing many new songs that night! God Bless JUDY!

  • What a fitting finale. Has always been a puzzle why the number never aired???? Of course Judy Garland is immortal among entertainers!

  • After her, is only her. Even though history has taught us that she was not at all that perfect, but what the hell, we got the best from her. So, here's to the sweetest gal!!! to you Miss Garland!! Cheers!!

  • Funny, but I am sure that I once read that the ending of the final show had to be pieced together from other shows because she was unable to complete the show. Yet, her is this clip showing her in full command of herself and er talent.

  • She truly emanates love and understanding.

  • That's Mark Herron in the front row with Judy's kids, and notice "special vocal arrangements Robert Cole" in the credits. So despite the pressures of the show, Our Girl was quite the busy bee.

  • lesser mortals would have collapsed under the pressure and heartbreak she must have been feeling knowing the show hadn't worked (through no fault of her own) Judy didnt collapse - she came out and gave a performance up to her usual staggering standards - she was a miracle

  • What a performance...what a performer!! There will never be another Judy Garland. No one could ever come close! You can feel the love and adoration from the audience...they couldn't get enough of her! Absolutely the bst performance I have seen.

  • CBS has come and gone and so have all her critics. Who are they anyway. You have not heard the last of Judy Garland, not until the end of time. She is "Miss Showbusiness." The rest are forgotten!!!!

  • Truly magnificent. One of Garland's most brilliant performances. If ever there is a serious documentary surmising the highlights of 20'th Century entertainment, this should be the final piece summing up the best of the century.

  • Judy was such a powerful & talented performer and one of the greatest singers ever but the CBS executives were sadly threatened by this little giant & did everything to supress Judy but in the end it was their loss & the audiences...a truly magnificent performance from the most real LEGEND...Bravo JUDY!!!

  • I can't get enough of this video!!!I have seen it for 20 times or so.......

it's sad and glad the same time.

was this the last episode of the Judy Garland Show?

    Cheers,

    jk.

  • Who remembers those asses at CBS who were so cruel to Judy? Yes, she had the last word -- an immortal legend.

  • Stunning & brilliant performance from Judy has got to be the greatest & most real performance ever of any singer captured on film...on the DVD box set of the CBS Series, this is a must have a was CBS ever stupid to not appreciate having the greatest talent ever and let it get away...go figure! Bravo Judy!!! a brilliant moment

  • I'm sure CBS didn't want her having the final word, and this song completed this chapter. That's how figure it.

  • I Love this number. I see no reason why they deleted it, nor why they deleted Where Is The Clown.

  • Hey john,

well they should have edited the "Where is the Clown" as Pioneer did and than there could have been continuity . I think the thinking was that seeing JUDY in clown makeup all of the sudden wouldn't be understood. Of course, I wish they would have aired this song because it is definitely a giagantic highlight of the series.(Cy Coleman and Carolyn Leigh)

  • Cy Coleman's beautiful song combined with Judy's perfect song styling.

  • Thank you for posting this great clip, she was simply the best !!!!!! I wonder if she really ever actually knew how good she was.....

  • Great job Judy! Too bad CBS Aubry did not appreciate your talent. My dad was terminally ill during the 1963 TV season and this show was a great relief from the sadness and sorrow. That is what makes Judy the great talent and legend because while she went through problems, she was able to keep our spirits up. My mother passed the same weekend as Judy.

  • I've been looking forward to watching this again for MONTHS! Thanks for posting. :oD

  • A True STAR!
