I can hear some Steve Lynch from 3:20 ... Check out "Hammerhead" from Autograph... By the way... Eddie didn't invented tapping. Steve Lynch wrote a book about that technique before VH I was released. Get your facts straight.
yes derek ruled..he could play practically any style..but definitely was an amalgamy of many guitarists. i called his style rubbery...his solos just bent and stuck to the music he played on. some great derek solos on reverbnation search iamthehipster.
songs are Kissing Tracy, UR what UR, BEACHBOY noise. If anyone cares...these were some of the last solos/songs he recorded
@MrDoochebag except with harmonics(natural/artificial) and a floyd rose of fury... oh and just plain better........ way to pick the 6th year anniversary of his death to be a jackass
What guitarist that came onto the scene after 1978 can't be compared to or have some kind of influnce of Eddie Van Halen in their playing? Just like prior to Eddie arriving on the scene it was Jimmy Page or Jimi Hendrix.
Obviously, one can hear much of Eddie's influence in Derek, but I also hear a lot of Steve Stevens' style there also. Derek was every bit as good as Eddie, if not better. Derek just had the misfortune of not catching the breaks that more widely known players did
@dman72 I did not hear eddies influence in dereks playing, I heard eddies signature licks. Theres a difference between taking influence from a player, and ripping licks.
@MrDoochebag his pinch harmonics and tone are fucking epic, dude, if anyone who taps and shit is stealing eddies licks, grow the fuck up and listen to more music,
AWH MAN HE STOLE MY C CHORD! I PATENTED THAT SHIT IN 1895 - Blind Lemon Jefferson
@TheBestGuitarSoloEVR I never said that anyone who taps steals eddies licks, you said that. I commented on stealing signature licks. There were a couple of eddies signature licks in there which got my attention. No need to be a hostile jerk, especially to some random dude in the internet. I'm just gonna end this with a smiley face, so hopefully you wont have the urge to reply like a moron. : )
Derek, I miss you brother. You are still a king in my opinion. Your through with this madness....you rest now.

no need to be harsh people. The fact is Eddie Van Halen inspired half the guitar players in the 80's .
I don't find Eddie a great guitar player, but he was sure a great innovator.
yes, you can hear a lot of eddie van halen in derek's playing here, and many other guitar players.
they can be better than eddie maybe, but that's besides the point.
but the fact remains the same. Eddie inspired all of them, he made a style and his playing was covered, copied and took as reference.
