  • Could someone explain to me (1) why amateur pianists post performances that are full of wrong notes when three weeks of extra practice would suffice to remove them, (2) why they don't use a metronome to see where their performances are falling out of rhythm (3) why they get irritated if someone points out these defects? (4) Do the posters think that playing a simple piece with wrong notes should be beyond criticisim?

We can all play wrong notes. We don't need to hear other people's.

  • Wish I had this sheet music... Personally..I admire your confidence. You look strong and confident playing and tht says alot..the piece is memorized!! (wow).. I say its great. Oh, did I mention you looked great playing? :) (and in no way am I being freak-ish)

  • Now we got some haters here in the crowd. How of you can say at a year and a half, you were playing this well. I been not many of you so shut the hell up you haters. hey papi you are phenomenal in my eyes. I am a violist and I am learning piano right now at my university. Very impressive that you can play this memorised.

  • nice playing but be careful of letting the note go too early + overpedalling and i feel (not sure about any1 else) it needs just a bit of score analysis(understanding the melody)

  • you're hot!

  • That was amazing. I'm playing that same piece for a competition for the year 2011. You did an amazing job.

  • im 12 and my teacher is making me play this song...i rele love this piece but yet its so hard~

  • yay...i finally found a slow version of this song! it's a beautiful song...i'm playing it for competition this coming Saturday at about this same speed. i don't think that it sounds good fast at all...just takes all the emotion out of it. wonderful job!!

  • Add some passion to it man. :)

  • year and a half? You're my hero!

  • Great performance. Nice speed - I don't like it when people play this piece too fast, there is no passion when it is fast. If possible, position your recording equipment on the other side of the piano as the bass is drowning out the treble. Luv to see guys bring the passion of this piece out. :)

  • so lovely!!!!

  • I love the chord on 3:55.

  • well that's a very good excuse! a year and a half? this is a grade 8 piece!

  • Nice!

  • Is there a tutorial video for this song? (A)

I'd really really like to learn it, but I can't read sheet music that well.

I am capable of learning it by myself tho. I learned Clair de Lune on my own..

Beautiful piece.. I just love Debussy.

  • any guy who can play debussy like that makes my day, so thank you! =)

  • lovely playing

  • Well done piano diesel, keep playing 1). NEVER give up.

2).And if you ever think about giving up refer to 1).

    Anthony

  • You have a good touch and I would love to play the piano!

  • I would lower the volume in the harmony (left hand) in order to bring the melody out more and not have it be drowned out. Keep up the good work.

  • i really like this song! my teacher told me that it's too hard for me but i hope that i will do it at cegep

  • The hard thing about this song is the craaaazy syncopation and the arpeggios on the left hand can get a bit tricky. work on those things and you can probably get a good try at it.

  • yeah the polyrhythms are tricky =P

  • who is playing this song, it is beautiful ♥

  • Your melodic sense (in the right hand, of course) is really very fine. You really let that melody sing, which is awesome. One thing to keep in mind: Debussy's piano was very small by today's standard's and had less sustain that what you're used to, so...don't be scared to clear the pedal often.

  • when you do your octaves be sure to BRING OUT the higher note. Your technique is amacing. I would like to know who your teacher is. your technique is great but musicality is another issue. You need to hear the melody and not drown it out with excess dynamics

  • I have taken piano lessons for nearly 4 years, and I have just recently learned to play this song. A year and a half and i think you play it better than me!

  • Very Good for a year and a half!!!!!!!

be aware of the long notes in the section where there are octaves on the right hand

  • It needs to flow more. It's "réverie", which means "daydream". Making the accompaniment a little softer will help too.

  • nice

  • YES YES YES.

watch the drag quarter notes though.. good good good.

  • I wrote here once before but YouTube didn't post my message. I just wanted to tell you that I think you play this piece beautifully (even with the mistakes), and I enjoy listening to it on here every once in a while. Thank you for putting my favourite piece of Debussy's music here and letting me become lost in contemplation when I need to... It's actually hard to get this piece on a CD, but you play it so well, you can express the character of the music well, I think. Good luck in the future :)

  • You can get Reverie on the following CD: Debussy - Complete Piano Works, Vol. One by Martin Jones. Its version is much faster than this one; in fact, Jones plays it in only 3.13'

  • beautifully done.

i've seen a few of your videos on here, and i enjoy hearing you play.

i too am a sincere fan of Debussy and you do his works just beaitiful.

    great job

  • u r sexy

  • i think you're a really great piano player, but i feel like when you played this piece you were thinking too much. Just play with your heart and let the piece take over.

  • It is missing dynamics. Add some rubato. Debussy wanted his music to be played at the pianist's will. But i must admit, you are pretty darn well for a 1 and a half!! Icomend you!

  • Hi, don't listen to anyone here. :) although all comments respected. I went through 8 years Stasov' School of Music in Moscow when I started. I know. This is advanced level, whatever minor expressivo and taking it a little softer you may do to better, it amazes me how you've mastered the instrument in such a short time. You will do wonderful with Rachmaninov's pieces.

  • two pieces of very unimportant criticism: I think you may be playing a bit too loud. Or maybe you were just trying to play loud enough so that it'd be audible when you posted it on YouTube. Either way, dynamics are kind of monotonous. Also, the E-C-E triplet at the beginning I think may have been off. but don't worry about these things, because they're minor criticisms. wonderful playing :)

  • I think this was a beautiful peice. Ive been playing for about 2 years and this is the first peice I learned. Great job thought =)

  • The left hand is way too loud for me. Like others have said, you need to bring out the melody more. It's so simple but it makes a huge difference! Just really pay attention on the chords especially and make sure the top note is a little bit louder. Soften the left in the beginning much more.

There is definitely some fine tuning needed but this is nice for the amount of time you have been studying piano. Keep it up!

  • Dude, favorite song ever, for just playing for less than two years, you've done better than people who have been playing for years. Have you heard some? 10 years on piano, butchered entire song. Great job, you make this song sound good to my ears. Keep up the good work, pianodiesel1, I believe you will make an even more extraordinary piano player than you already are. Best regards to you, my friend.

  • You are GREAT for someone who has only played the piano for a year and a half! I've played this piece myself. My father [great pianist] always told me there are two ways of perfecting a song. First comes mastering it and then you need to learn playing it like it is what you feel. Playing with feeling makes an easy song sound good and a difficult one fantastic! Try to play it softer and bring out the harmony more in stead of the melody. Don't ever stop playing that piano =) You're great!

  • It might just be how the peace was recorded, but after having played this peace in many shows this is way to loud, you need more dynamic contrast, so dont start so loud. Other wise you played an okay tempo but make sure that the melody is brought out much more in comparison to the harmony, but still soft. well done over all.

  • It should be played softly, hon.

  • Very nice, everytime I see/hear this song played it is WAY too fast. Yours is played at the perfect tempo. Good job

  • i should say best!

    vote!

  • i'm already playing 6 years,

and this level is just to high for me Ö

    omg you're really fantastic

    the piece is beautiful!

  • beautiful piece

=] i play it on the flute

  • Good, the piece is hard, and is a little faster.

    Congratulations!

  • it sounds too fast to me.

gosh, way can't people slow down while playing romantic music? :(

but I love it, it's great.

  • good point...except this isn't a romantic song.

  • sorry for that last comment, i just noticed that you've only been playing for a year and a half! in that case, you are awesome! well done!

  • you have the notes nicely, but i can hear little expression. try some more variation in the left hand at the beginning, it sounds sort of stagnant. but other than that god job.

  • Wonderful, Brillant ! I play " Reverie " too =D

But mine is not as good as your !

  • Hi, I am 13 and I play the piano, I play this piece as well, the first triplet is a little out of time (2nd note comes in too soon putting third note out of time). At about bar 35 onwards(where the new section starts after the C maj arpeggio) the right hand is not important, it needs to play softly as the left hand has the melody. Also throughout the piece keep the same tempo and when going into a pause slow down a little as you go into it.

I like your style, keep it up :)

  • very nice. I did this song for a recital a couple years ago. one of my favorite songs. very well done though, we play it very similar ways, you even pause at the same time :p

  • Lovely. I like the unhurried pace, allowing us to take in all the details. I don't play, just love piano music, especially Debussy, and yours is just the way I like it!

  • this piece is so difficult !!! congratulations !

  • i play this piece a little faster than yours

    can you play liebestraum?

  • yamaha dgc1

  • a few glitches here and there and some weird pauses that'll be easy to work out but man. you're good.

  • Beautiful, I am working on this piece too! I am not as good as you are yet! I love the sound of your piano, if you don't mind me asking what kind of piano do you have?

  • God the beginning is beautiful

  • Hola! Tengo 14 años, yo tambien estoy estudiando esa obra y la toco un poco más despacio. Tienes muy buen sonido, muy bonito!

Hi! I'm 14, I study Reverie too and I play it more slowly. You sounds very good and professional! Very nice!

I´ll try to translate my critics, anyway it´s a very good job!!!keep on working!!

  • que dices.. me gusta como has tocado :)yo la toco mas despacio pero tambien depende el dia. you play it very nice, i think that even if you play it many times always will be mistakes.. we can't live without them hehehe.sigue asi! chao

  • That was bloody amazing.

  • Are you British?

  • Bravo!

  • Nice. And your piano sounds nice too. Nice, rich, deep base. You sound so professional. Very, very nice.

  • You do not suck at all! You played this piece amazingly! Keep up the good work!

  • hey. just some comments on this. The first tripolet in the right hand right at the beginning.. you didnt play correctly. you were playing way to loud in soft sections.. especially in the first section where theres chords in the right hand( im not sure if you have the same score as i did but for me its measure 19-23ish). your not letting the melody comethough and there was lots of wronge rhythms. do you have a teacher to maybe help you? anyways this a good start

  • You play beautifully and you look hot as hell. What a dynamite combo. Keep up the good work.

  • Careful not to speed up. And begin softer at the beginning. I am 12, and I have been playing piano for 5 years. But I can't play this yet! I know Debussy well, he's pretty sentimental.

  • It seemed like the arpeggiations at the beginning were about loud idk. Try to relax and dream

  • this piece is Pianisimo... and in some place have 3 Piano.. PPP..

for me.. you are playing very high..

    bye have good time

  • there are no places with a ppp. the whole piece is not pianisimo. there are lots of parts that go up to mf and even f.

  • V lol sorry that was a reply to FedericoDiPasquo's comment

  • check out the editon Peters, i have ppp,

    in some places

and sorry.. but if you count all the mf pp, p, f

there are more pp and p, that mf, forte

i am saying that for me, and for all the pianist that i listen, this version it`s very forte, i don`t saying that this person can`t play it.. but debussy it`s more than play and finish

    sorry my english, really

    have good day

  • just beautiful :)

    keep up the great work

    -brian

  • aww sorry didn't know that you only play for one and a half yer, you got potential. will post you some of my clips soon

  • i have no excuse. i'm just learning this piece and i've been playing for 5 years and i just started to apply myself. that's just sad. nice job though!

  • nice job. One concern is, when the stocatas start in the right hand you go too fast. they are 1/4 notes but you play them like they are 1/8th notes. consequently you go faster than the beat you started with. you should count 1&2&3&4& for each measure, and that should help u fix it. Also, try to make that whole section softer, its the core of the piece and alot more emotion and patience should go into it.

    cheers, good job :)

  • good work this is a challenging piece. one comment when you play from memory put the music desk down - it helps you to hear the sound your making better, partic pedal effects!

  • Nice.

You have a strange resemblance to Chris Daughtry. LOL!

  • where can i find the sheet music for this piece?

  • bald rock singers = out, bald classical piano players = still out. but still gd job

  • i really loved it! ;)

on pieces like this, the clair de lune... in lots from Grieg, and from Rachmanninov really lets you go very deep into a landscape and feel all those incredible emotions...

congrats! great work! and great taste to choose the works!

    Martín

  • You play it very well, i wish i could play that piece

    *-*

  • lighten up on the sustain and you're good to go. just keep practicing! kudos.

  • That was excellent!watch the pedal a lil more and it'd be awesome. :)

  • I have no excuse, played for 40 years =)

  • rock on claude!

  • My compliments! I'm also a pianist and I love Debussy. Hats off!
