There is a difference between someone who is an anime fan and weeaboos. I love anime because it interests me in a way that most american television shows do not, I enjoy the deep story lines and interesting character development, but I don't go around cosplaying and speaking shitty japanese and jerking off to hentai. Thank God I`m not that, hell all the Japanese music I own is sung in English, horrible mispronounced butchered English, but they make up for it by having style. Oh and don't sincerely use Japanese words whilst speaking English. If you're actually interested in the language/culture, immerse yourself in all aspects of the culture and actually learn the language. I started teaching myself kana, pronunciation, and vocabulary a while back to prepare for a class (possible Minor), and while it's been slow and challenging due to the language's difficulty as well as time management, it's proven itself to be a fun, enlightening experience with even more to come.
What makes an anime/J-culture fan a weeaboo is when they are very obnoxiously outspoken about it. It doesn't mean you have to keep it a secret, because it's a good way to make friends (when you avoid other weeaboos, that is), but don't just waltz the fuck around announcing your obsession to the world.

Aha, I'm a cosplayer myself, but I can promise you that I'm not wapanese... I only watch the shows, play the games and hand-make the outfits myself. It's a hobby I keep to myself, and it isn't easy. I'm big on every detail, but I don't go around shoving it in people's faces. Being a cosplayer does not make you wapanese... As anyone could easily go around cosplaying anything.

If you're actually interested in the language/culture, immerse yourself in all aspects of the culture and actually learn the language. I started teaching myself kana, pronunciation, and vocabulary a while back to prepare for a class (possible Minor), and while it's been slow and challenging due to the language's difficulty as well as time management, it's proven itself to be a fun, enlightening experience with even more to come.

Aha, I'm a cosplayer myself, but I can promise you that I'm not wapanese... I only watch the shows, play the games and hand-make the outfits myself. It's a hobby I keep to myself, and it isn't easy. I'm big on every detail, but I don't go around shoving it in people's faces. Being a cosplayer does not make you wapanese... As anyone could easily go around cosplaying anything.
