HE THINKS A BIG GUY LIKE THAT CAN WEAR HIS CLOTHES" ... *music starts*
This is 1 of my favorite songs of all or Will you stay tonight by them Highly underrated group by far! REAL GENIUS CLASSIC FOR SURE! Damn I remember being like 13 in 87 watching that.Where did the good times go? Anyone into underrated groups check Naked Eyes, like all their material or The Fixx tracks> 1. Saved by zero 2. stand or fall 3. Red skies at night Kajagoogoo tracks>1. Hang on now 2. Islands 3. Power to forgive 4.Lions Mouth Thomas Dolby> Dissidents, This earth, Don't turn away
Was it a dream where you were standing in sort of sun-god robes on top of a pyramid, and there were hundreds of naked women screaming and throwing little pickles at you?
@outlawformetal614 An independent 1980s movie with Val Kilmer, set at Caltech. Involved a bunch of really smart college kids getting tricked into designing a military-grade laser for their corrupt professor, and the revenge they wreaked when they realized they'd been had.
@outlawformetal614 Yes, there was a whole lot of popcorn - it played an integral part in the revenge that the kids wrought on the professor, who *HATED* popcorn. The laser was basically one powerful enough to take into space and incinerate targets on the ground - Val Kilmer's character figured out how to make one powerful enough to do that. And the song was played over a montage of Mitch, his wunderkind roommate, trying to get into the swing of life on campus and in the lab. :)
@outlawformetal614 It is an awesome movie. It was on tv the other night. I think AMC. I think it may be on sale at Walmart now too. If you haven't watched it yet, and you love 80s movies, you GOTTA watch this. It's a moral imperative. (:
@ArchTeryx00 The Laser was an 8 Megawatt model, and the beam is what's called an Eximmer (spelling): very high powered Ultraviolet pulse laser with long pulse durations and very short pulse intervals, appearing as a continuous beam. It's resonant cavity needed to be frozen, and would burn itself out after one firing.
@Dreaded88 More or less. It also was entirely fictional - no laser in the Real World has gotten close to that power, let alone a chemical laser. UV Excimer lasers do exist (I've used them myself!) but are mostly made from reactions with noble gasses and halides (Xenon-chlorine laser was the one I used) and are very low power. Eye surgeons love the thing - go to a Lasik center, chances are it's a XeCl laser they'll be using on your eye.
@ArchTeryx00 Hmmm... Perhaps the producers were desperate for a workable solution that Chris would have to stumble upon, versus something like a Copper Vapor Laser?
BTW: Thank you for bringing this song back. This brings back such memories of slaving away studying for tests. Much like the effect the Stephen J. Cannel Vanity Card video has on me when I'm writing!
"You know, Jerry, and I only say this because I care...there are a lot of decaffeinated brands on the market that are just as tasty as the real thing."
YES, REAL GENIUS ALL BROUGHT US HERE! IT'S A BRILLIANT MOVIE WITH AN EQUALLY BRILLIANT SOUNDTRACK. YOU COULD NEVER CREATE A BETTER LATE NIGHT CRAMMING SONG.
Or you can just use a free youtube to Mp3 converter (takes like 4 mins for 1 song) and put it on your ipod that way, I always do that. Just google "youtube to mp3 converter" and you'll find it.
Summer of 85...Left Las Vegas and went to England for two years - this song rings in my head and brings back many memories and emotions - great song!!!
They never released an "official" soundtrack for Real Genius, which is a bummer. They had a LOT of good music. You can download individual MP3s for the songs that were used, but some songs were never credited.
"Do you mind if I name my first child after you? 'Dipshit Knight' has a nice ring to it."
The 80's was an amazing time to be a kid. The movies were all incredible. Anyone else remember Warners Bros. cartoons before the film and how everyone in the theater would clap and give standing ovations after the movie ended? Nowadays it's $14 to watch a movie in 3d using glasses that give you a headache.
@lifesfinallgoodagain Dude, I really couldn't have said it better myself. I think it can be attributed the the "new" technology of the 80's: the cartoons with better colors, the movies with special effects done with real human hands, and the music. Now, everything is taken for granted. Nothing wows anybody.
@MikeGartner You really shouldn't be so general. NOTHING? ANYBODY? I'm sure SOMETHING somewhere wows SOMEBODY. Technology today blows me away and I often think about how great the technology of the 80's was in it's day.
