ruined my life!!!!!! ffs we lost 4-3 again in the 90th the next season. One day we'll win something cos we deserve it toon army.I'm sure the big boys like Liverpool would like us to really. the nearly club. I went to wembly 2 years running and cried. ffs please before I die.
I remember this match well. It was sometime in early spring '96. Wonderful game it was, couldn't believe it. I was rooting for Newcaslte though, but I liked Collymore's decisive goal.
Fantastic game. 2 legendary teams at their very best. Real end to end football. Liverpool did excellent to score a 4th in the final minute. I'm a Newcastle fan, but Liverpool have always been my 2nd favorite team.
That is the first PL match I watched in my life here in Bulgaria. I was 13 back then and since that match I became a Liverpool fan and I will be such for life!.
That is the first PL match I watched in my life here in Bulgaria. I was 14 back then and since that match I became a Liverpool fan and I will be such for life!.
Its a real shame Newcastle didn't manage to win a single piece of silverware between 1995-99. They had a quality team in the late nineties, played some incredible football, with some truly exceptional players: Ginola, Shearer, Asprilla, the list goes on... but they were always second to Man United. This is undoubtedly one of the greatest premier league games of all time, but it was also the game that cost Newcastle the title. You can see it etched on Keegan's face. Football...bloody hell.
when football was football. I used to watch Stan 'the man' Collymore while he was at Forest. He's the most exciting player I've ever seen. Shame he was more concerned about going dogging with Ulrika.
It's amazing to think this, but the players playing in this game would roughly be on an annual salary anywhere between £50,000 and £78,000. Nowdays, due to television rights, sponsorships/advertising, and increase ticket prices top flight player will be making that money weekley. What's scary is that this has happened in the space of 10 - 15 years!
Some of the most brilliant piece of footballing skills: Asprilla nutmegging Ruddock, Ferdinand pass with with outside of his right foot to release Ginola, Asprilla's stunning curling shot around James with outside of right foot.
And some of the most shocking, comical defending ever, FOUR men go to mark McManaman for Fowler's second goal. And AGAIN! four men standing around looking at Rush at the end, forgetting about Collymore.
Who is the commentator on this clip? It isn't Martin Tyler... I have seen the highlights with him doing the commentating. This is the commentator when it was originally shown in the U.S. in 1996 on what was then known as 'Prime Ticket.' Now known as FoxSportsWest... I want to know the commentator's name, he makes these highlights very very great and emotional!
I started watching this and quickly realised I was looking for ANOTHER 4-3 Liverpool/Newcastle game. The one where Liverpool were 3-0 up at half time, then Newcastle equalised in the last few minutes, before Fowler headed the winner in the dying seconds.
it was class! mid to late 90's was a great period in the premier league at least. it was much better with no truly defined 'big 4' back then it seemed that more teams could legitimitally challenge for the title.
Up until this season I'd definitely agree, but this year it seems a lot more open and there's real belief in some of the teams outside the 'big four' that they can break the monopoly this time around. Chelsea, Man United and Arsenal will more than likely make up the top three, but fourth is going to be a major scrap and I wouldn't be surprised to see another surprise FA Cup winner with all the top teams focusing on the league. Aston Villa and Stoke City would be good bets.
@BaldricksInferior it was in uk maybe..but teams like the last 3-4 years barcelona has, 90s didnt have..You dont enjoy pes like before..Barcelona makes its better ;p
@BaldricksInferior no way, because me and plenty others would agree with you. There were far more entertaining games back then, where the away side went for victory even if it was like QPR away to Man U or something. There were far more exciting players like Cantona, Mcmanaman, Le Tissier, Ginola, Beardsley, Kanchelskis... and more great characters in general, some of which were a bit naughty yet funny to go with it... not like the petulent arrogant money takers that dominate the game today!
@BaldricksInferior Not at all, I'd agree with ya maybe very early 90s though I wish we could go back to before the Premier League and back to the old division 1 instead.
Best game the prem has seen for me but sounds better with the Martin Tyler commentry - "Kevin Keegan hangs his head, he's devastated". I cried at Anfield that night lol.

@njclondon2009 I don't know what was number 1 but I would put money on it being 3-3 against AC Milan in the Champs league final.

What on earth was the keeper doing for Newcastle's third goal? Why did he come charging out like that?!
Chazfazzer 1 month ago
@Chazfazzer - The reason why he came charging out like that was because his name was David James, and he was utter shit!
