I thought it was a great performance of a new work on Martha's repertoire. Sometimes she teams up with musicians that are not quite up to par, which is great for them as it will be a unique experience. But many of us, who have heard her over the years, think she should get young musicians as talented as these ALWAYS. I know the work and it is not easy to put together. As you say, well rehearsed. But they also had that special inborn musicality to pull it off, don't you think?
i couldn t agree more. Infact i often wish she had it in her to do more solo. I have an incling she will do that more. janaceks music is great for her, as it is a cross between Debussy and profofiev almost I think
I would give my right arm for her to do solo. I was lucky to hear her live in 1965 and the recital blew my brains. I have never heard such a tower of strength unleash itself on an instrument as I did that afternoon. I don't think I have yet recovered. AND I want to her to do the type of repertoire she did in those days: BEETHOVEN,BACH.... and I would like her to do BRAHMS,SCHUBERT....Let's say that Janacek suits her, as would Smetana. Neither requires the type of commitment the classics demand.
well of course classical does require very disciplined approach. I heard her liszt 1 and a wave of electricity sweeped the crowd just before and after she played. I just think Janacek and Ravel and Prokofiev and Chopin and bach are her forte. :)
OBVIOUSLY, I don't have to explain that Martha is AMAZING, but the other musicians are great too...
