  • @Jinmane can you explain to what that is?

  • i think the greenest idea out there is using china as an example and only having one or two children, i belie that overpopulation is the real problem

  • Pee in the sink.. If every man pissed in the sink we would save tons of water

  • One simple idea can save your city millions. dont put you trash and recycling bin out if its not full. Let people who collect recyclables have access to your bin the day before pick up days rather than let the big diesel burning truck rev its engine in front of your house to lift those few items in your bin. I got this idea thank to all my gay liberal neighbors who chase away people that dig though their recycling bin and put their big trash bins out with hardly any trash at all.

  • So that others can steal your great ideas and make more money off them than you did when you submitted it to this foundation.

  • Once we have nuclear fusion figured out, all these wind farms and solar panels will be obsolete.

  • Don't use solar panels. It takes many many years before they have generated the same amount of energy that was used to make them. Solar panels are meant for use in areas where there is no electricity grid, it's almost pointless to use them in an area where there are plenty of electricity.

  • they use them because its an unlimited power source when were running out of things like fossil fuel. learn a bit more about what your talking about.

  • MIT's Idea was crap, I agree with reducing waste but energy supplies won't last forever if we keep the tech the same, also this line of thinking keeps the status quo as is... big oil etc. get to charge more for less. we need to wipe the slate clean.

  • those ideas were pretty bad. sry.

    except lasst was ok...

  • yay left year!!!

  • I know, the right year is just such a bore.

  • The second xprize challenge in the above video was already done... it's called an Earthship.

  • I love environment!until i was 17 i never had thrown down any rubbish! Now i do it abit less but i still love environment

  • good gute... I'de focus on geography and fertility [happiness and deSIREability]

I'de live in the dark in a PERFECT WORLD.

Is the video production available continuosly in INTELIGENT ENVIRONMENT?

seperate OBJECTIVE from SUBJECTIVE in logical peacefull ...quantified transportation! compromise of bad genes... I.D. of saints... [bio-metric]

  • Hey MIT geniuses, How about telling all the major cities in the world starting with New York, Las Vegas,Paris,London,Moscow, to turn the fucking lights out from 12am to 6am.

  • When they would turn the lights back on there would be a massive energy spike burnning more energy than keepping the lights on.

The same princable explains why cars get less MPG in the city than on the highway.

  • why is the sound mono?!

  • To benifit people who can only hear with their left ear.

  • what the hell:D

  • left speaker only.. 'greener' by using less power .)

  • id do the bird walking past..

  • noise only comes out of the left earpeice....

  • Fix your headset.

  • me too, i think he recorded it like that..

  • It comes out of both. The balance is just not even. so it's louder from the left

  • The guy is autistic and fetish alcohal sydrom

  • fetish (noun)- a sexual desire or act that is seen as strange or unusual.

foetal(adjective)- relating to the foetus and it's development in the womb.

  • no sound

  • This guy is trying too hard. It's like he's reading as he's going along.

  • Is this for real? Did they really choose those videos? If that's the best there is out there for ideas, then we're in trouble!

  • ( ") I would have made a vid probably... (" )

I like the third idea about saving energy the most because it doesn't require any additional things like the first two and as they say: Less is more.

  • i agree. great idea. for those who have ideas. but not a lot of cash. and would like to get in on the since thing... like me. i wish i would of knew about this, i would of made a video ._.

  • Is that a method to harvest free ideas from us

How we can protect our intellectual property

Is there any way for us to be protected

and who will be owner of our invention or idea

You are using same method as Banks, Government abd ...

To still idea or innovations from slaves

Your system is simply; Elite" will get benefits and honor

And slaves are entitled to build pyramids

  • on the one side i wish i had known about this because these idea's are LAME (a 10 mill prize to build an affordable house??) One the other side i can't trust when somebody says Give me all your big great ideas and you might win a prize. I battery idea is the only one I think would work and when i think about it I pitcure people working with crazy chemicals that kill any living things they touch.

  • It amazes me how the global warming hoax is perpetuated by people who suggest we use those dangerous CFL bulbs! Yes, I believe in decreasing pollution and energy usage but not through stupidity. CFLs are a hazardous waste and present a hazard in the home if a bulb is broken. You have to contact the EPA to dispose of a broken CFL bulb because of hazardous mercury fumes. The disposal alone would be so costly, it's hardly worth the bother.

  • if 10% reduction on energy is equal to 74 000 000 square meters of solar panels means that 10% of energy can be created by 74 square km of solar 100% by 750 square km which is a small piece of land 25 km by 30 km in the sunny arizona desert

  • fire burns it down? all at once [$1bil in hope]

  • WOW! no money need be put up. Everyone

would be so grateful the global warming,

environmental and P.C. bullcrap would stop,

and liberals and socialists would shut up

about it. But....since gas is cheap again....

so much for this idea! I'm gonna gas up and go

    joyriding!

  • it's not about the money

  • efficiency...hands down

  • lol handsome this guys voice would kill me if i had to listen to him everyday

  • if you want the best ideas, cultivate the inventor.

  • I posted my Video which is THE BEST ONE THERE IS. sorry it was late but i just seen the video. I hope yall take a look at it anyway.

  • i find it too hard to see using energy efficient light bulbs, too dim.

  • this guy is handsome

  • Im the winner!

  • cool vid!

  • here is an idea, give food and water and shelter to every human with renewable energy, no one needs money, and we go into space

  • I'm well up for that. Now to find the funding and backing......

  • this is boaring an stupid

  • We live on a star and we still can't find energy?

    'Crazy' green ideas indeed.

  • We live on a Planet, Not a star, we Orbit a star... the Sun, and we Draw energy from it (Solar Panels / heat blah blah).

We can Find energy, we continuously use and want more.

  • A DEAD star, with a nuclear reactor at its core...

  • Jupiter is hopefully the only one dead star in our system

  • What the hell? We don't live on a star. We live on a planet. We orbit a star, the Sun. And a moon orbits us.

  • A DEAD star, with a nuclear reactor at its core...

  • There is a theory that earth may have a nuclear reactor at it's core, but it's not a dead star. And EVEN if it was (which it's not) it's dead. So how would it help us find energy? You're first comment made no sense.

  • Yeah, you're right. Volcanoes are a myth...

But seriously, it has been WIP for years. There is over 100 articles on the NS archive relating to geothermal energy.

    Look it up.

Oh and, it is a dead star - how else are planets made? God?

  • Volcanoes are stone, so you write stars are made of stone ??

  • What the hell is wrong with you people?

    Stars die, planets form.

If there was enough energy to form a star, then that is what you'd get - there wasn't, so we got a rock, with a molten core. (which it is theorised has gradually cooled to a solid)

  • Jupiter is a huge planet made by gas (the heart as the surface.)

It didn't have enough energy like the sun to become a star, hopefully for us.

Nobody find a rock on Jupiter, even if meteor strike it.

  • just becuse the earht was made up of star dust. doznt meant the earth a dead star.

  • You're right. Just because a sausage is made of pigs testicles doesn't mean a sausage is dead pig.

  • All three challenges are far, far, far behind the times.

Except that USans will be the last to save any energy and will only do so because they are bankrupt, and that the charging speed isn't 1 min yet.

  • Yeah why did those 3 get chosen? Why don't any women ever win these things? I don't know who chose those but it was a bad choice.

  • Wow how did they get Ferris Bueler to do the voice over - awesome!

  • haha, so true

  • This is inspiring. I thought about this idea of 100% energy self sustainable house, and even the first searches on internet show (as always) that I'm not the first :]

  • 3l car was relevant in the 80ties, today it's the 0,5l car.

Zero emission houses were relevant in the 80ties, today houses can produce more energy than they need.

Start with an extreme insulation, reduce consumption with LEDs and Laptops, add solar heating and solar panels, a wind wheel for extra electric energy to charge batteries with, geothermia for heating and cooling. Put an HPV in the carport.

    Ready.

  • white people waste SOOOOOOOO much energy

  • Yes and othes do too.

  • ok ..stupid question..i just did a search on it...seems that the tech for harnessing the energy in the movement of the ocean is at the same stage as solar panels..weak at best..

  • Has anybody tried to harness the energy of ocean waves yet? They are always there, always in motion and must have huge amounts of stored energy

  • House How can we vote for one of the 3 options? I would vote for the house.

  • were wasting too much energy trying to be green Lol

    jk?

  • those are the most... i guess un creative and most uuncrazy ideas there are...everyone knows these things already., how is it a NEW idea?

  • wow. this was incredibly stupid

  • nice...

  • The first two challenges are doable and would have the greatest positive impact on future generations. If we were to take the money we have spent in and on the Iraq war and gave it to scholars who are not influenced by corporate America we could meet these challenges. I have no doubt!!!!!!

  • simply pathetic

yup, keeomng people out of mass graves is a waste of money

yup, taking 550 metric TONS of yellow cake from saddam was a waste of money, for you clueless people, that is enough for 50 nukes.

that you refuse to learn from history is just sad....

  • Wow, one stone age imbecile who still believes the WMD lies. Must have been in a coma.

By the way, what's "keeomng" supposed to mean, Einstein?

  • Sooooo.....does anybody else think that this guy is a robot?

  • This is Beta, final version will have fully functional blinking algorithm.

  • There is nothing wrong with conservation but you would expect a lot bigger more imaginative challenge to come from one of our best Universities. It is the kind of challenge you would expect to come from an organization that receives a lot of money from energy companies. With the current rate of population growth we need a much bigger Idea than conservation.

    Thanks M.I.T. : (

  • I mean, it sounds good but still I think spreading a random plant around the world would either cause infestation or it would die out. I don't know, I think you have a good idea but a lot of kinks to work out, like what plant to use.

  • the plant would depend on the location u place it in

  • whats the most c02 obsorbant plant?

    plant billions of them

  • Planting them uses up lots of co2 and also finding the area for them to live would be hard, also keeping them alive would use more co2

but then again, it was supposed to e crazy lol

  • how would planting them and keeping them alive use more co2? let the birds spread da seeds and let the rain water them we don't have to take care of plants when their in the right enviornment they will take care of themselves, it's not that crazy...the amazon rainforest affects global conditions, so we know for a fact that enough plants could and do change the world for starts we have to stop cutting down our forests, and we must grow more hemp.

  • Here's a good idea ... post all the entry videos and let the viewers vote. How about a self powering geo-thermal heat pump that makes electricity when not conditioning your house. Oh wait thats already been done.

  • another example of idiots getting paid to still ideas from people on welfare

  • These guys are supposed to be scientists? They can even get a fucking video with SOUND!!!! HA HA HA, who ever recorded or uploaded this is a nimrod. PLEASE SLAP YOUR DORKY SKINNY PALE NERD FACE HARD FOR THAT!!!!

  • someone had a bad day....

  • here's an idea to make an awesome hybrid:

Put turbines on the wheels so that it recharges as you drive or roll

    Put solar panels on it

    And wind turbines

This way, it should be using less electricity than it is producing, or atleast reduce the amount of electricity being used, thus reducing the amount of fuel as well.

  • Then picture how the car would look, dumbass. Might as well add wind mills and little midgets to run the engine.

  • The MIT idea is intriguing. Its probably the easiest to implement and the one to create the biggest impact.

  • All your videos seem to have good content, but PLEASE, show some emotion!

  • is this guy a robot? mannerisms are weird.

  • well then how about pedal powered rail cars to replace the highway systems then we can watch the cycling criminals move us to our destination

  • I have an idea we could use criminals on bicycles to create energy and we wouldn't have to pay them that would be really efficient.

  • It is inappropriate to label other people's ideas grazy. Who are the X-Prize to think that Youtubers' ideas must be grazy? Is it because anon users do only fantasy online? Still it presupposes that they don't have any right or need to be what they are.

  • This is a load of shit. THeres patents and energy systems that have been available for a long time. Paul Pantone, Stan Meyers, Tesla, and many more. The technology for freee energy systems are suppressed by the Arab Oil establishments and thier tight coneection to USA automakers and government. Dont give me 3 shitty options, give us HHO generators or magneto-dynamic systems, not these three awful choices that would just keep someone in financial power. And ethanol is not enviromentally friendly.

  • I think the prize should be awarded to any scientist who can bio-engineer an organism that removes carbon dioxide from the air and returns oxygen. Additional points can be awarded if the organism is solar powered and also produces something edible or useful such as sugar or lumber.

  • haha, nice joke. In other words, plant more trees.

  • At first I was like: Damn, that's a really good idea! After about a minute I realized what a dumbass I am ;>

  • A billion years of evolution is a pretty good way of solving most problems.

  • I've done! 'Cept after my discovery, I was heading towards the patent office, but what I discovered had already been in my yard!

    A TREE!

  • plz never do this again i can only here out of my left speker exept theswhew sound

  • whats a fly wheel?

  • A very heavy wheel. Google it.

  • Tesla already won. We are controled in lots of ways, the flow of energy is controled, so if you do invent a free energy machine dont tell buisness or government,

  • itd be a tough secret to keep lol

  • Too much good ones just in the examples. There should be not JUST ONE. How about these categories:

    1. Housing

    2. Transportation

    3. Powersource

    4. Power storage

    5. Biological (CO2-converting microbes etc)

  • Half a year ago I read about nasa working on a battery that could run a laptop for 100 years without recharching. Thats what I want to see fully developed.

  • must be a very energy efficent laptop

  • 1. Or you could have an interchange of batteries for cars where the customer gets a freshly charget battery and the "gas station" gets the used battery that they begin to charge for another customer.

    2. There are fans that are omnidirectional and generate enough power even with slow wind. I think they were installed in Chicago on some rooftop.

I would vote for 3 too..

  • uh, the battery described has already been created- the Ovonic Battery is non-toxic and can go 100 miles in an electric car the only thing different is that they take 15 minutes to recharge instead of their requirement of less than a minute ~ Documentary: Who Killed the Electric Car?

The energy- saving houses have been around for years as well. Unfortunately, buyers have, for the most part, shied away from the mystery energy saver. I dont know if they are selling like hot cakes today or not.

  • all the idea seems bizaare and extravagant, good thing i'm not going choose anybody

  • electric companies will shut this down.. remember the electric car issue? they got blown up by the car companies.

  • Still crying because of EV1.

    :`[

  • # 3 ... best payoff. My pick.

The battery deal is stupid. After driving 100 miles you need a "P" break and rest. Recharging in 1/2 hour is fine, and even a whole hour is OK.

Besides, recharge stations need located at destinations such as shopping plazas.

  • how does green-minded ideas sound to yah? >:D

  • left ear.............. quick right ear segue jingle then back to left ear...... then bam right ear closing theme music. Here's an idea - make stereo work. oh and make the speaker 20% more energy efficient

  • Battery!

  • they all suck, they live in an ideal fairy world....the problem is that too many people live in this world the only solution, is to have less people, by selective killing, and selective castration.....

  • the problem with that is, WHO gets to decide who lives and who dies?

look how advanced we have gotten technologically in the 20th century.

every new generation is required to move upwards and beyond....advance, advance....

until we finally reach a world where we can call utopia

  • I've got frogscar's balls in my sights.

  • the sound is only on the left side!

    RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGE

  • It's in both, just much, much louder on the left. Annoying actually.

  • Oh sweet I was going crazy. I thought it was my speakers. or even worse! My EARS!! :S

  • I like the first one the best.

  • Jail all those oilmobs that suppress alternative nrg science?

    free paul pantone!!!

  • really all three are great, and need to be done. I'd probably go with the economically feasible, totally energy independent house. It'd free up a lot of household money that would be spent on other things.

However a battery that could power a car and be charged in less than a minute... totally revolutionary. It would literally change the way we think about energy, we might become more energy hungry if it was that convienent.

  • Ultra Battery.

  • gotta say, i liked the homes with the minimills

  • Ultra Battery is my pick - but it has some serious problems that need to be solved.

How can you have a large capacity capacitor, capable of being charged in seconds, that can power a car for 100 miles? You need a huge amount of power input in a big hurry. This technology would only be available at specialist places - not in the average home.

I hope thyey win and are able to perfect this technology. Good luck guys, you will surely need it!

    Cheers.

  • I think they are comparing it to the average fuel stop for a gasoline car, so they are probably thinking of charging stations to replace normal fuel stations. At home charging would be possible, but over a few hours, not minutes.

  • Yeah, okay, that makes sense. Cheers.

  • ultra btterythinngggygyygygygy

  • pick mit

  • ultra battery definatly

  • I hate green...:D

  • yh cool

  • Im glad to see new scientist helping out with this.

  • yeah

  • I have good idea, thoug I don't have a camera...

  • invest 5 dollar to win 25000. a bit like gambling. :)

  • Kinda pointless now since they already have selected finalists...didn't you watch the video?

  • I did. But I really felt the need to act like a smart-ass. =)

  • Should never stop with these X Prizes, if that's what it takes to get things done.

  • *thumbs up*

  • pure genius marketing.

  • helloo

  • very cool
