Agree with everyone else on here. You can compare a final build of windows 7 to a developer preview of windows 8. I mean...a developer preview won't have all the drivers or boot logs.
naja auf dem windows 7 pc warn ja schon 100 sachen installiert... wenn schodan beides frisch installiereen und dann vergleichen also mein windows 7 startet schneller, trotzdem gewinnt windows 8 mit einigen sekunden vorsprung.
Joke! Compared PC OS vs Mobile OS. And who cares about boot times these days? When we needed faster boot time, Microsoft tooked a piss for 20 years and now they can impress only with that? FAIL!
Why do people measure how good an OS is by how fast it boots up... Hell. I turn my computer on and walk away and do something else, by the time I come back it's ready. I don't sit there and stare at it....
How about you retry that test with a CLEAN installation of Windows 7? You have 10 pinned applications, which include Chrome (Google Updater Service takes time to start) and a bunch of other stuff. Next time you want to fake the results, try unpinning your icons.
@unbreakablefootage any way.... what is your problem? any why do yu say that i am weird you fakin counter-strike nerd...? go get a new pc so you can play the 2011 games like i do... skyrim... ultra quality... and all the details ultra... WINDOWS 8 IS GOING TO RULE THE MARKET! THEY LOOK AWESOME! REALLY COOL AND THEY ARE A WHOLE NEW LOOK FOR OS.... THIS IS THE FIRST BIG CHANGE SINCE THE FIRST MAC OS... windows 94,xp,vista,7,mac os1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,X LOOKS SAME... THE METRO IS THE FUTURE... IT's THE FIRST REAL CHANGE MADE SINCE THEN...
If your measure of how good an operating system is based on bootup time, then I feel sorry for you. For one thing, I doubt Windows 8 loads the Explorer shell in the beginning. The desktop is only loaded after you click on the desktop app from the Metro UI, which isn't the case for Windows 7. Hence, this isn't a fair test.
Wow man your BIOS loads incredibly slow. My bios is done within 5 seconds and windows starts loading. Enable quick boot, which only tests HDD smart capability and not RAM for errors which is stupid, and turn off IDE controller since you don't have any ide drivers. Also disable that Realtek Ethernet boot agent. Cheers :)
For those who don't know, the entire OS is not the Metro Start Screen, there is a desktop feature like Windows 7 which is alot nicer to look at. It uses less recources, giving a higher framerate in video games.
@JPRTN I never turn mine off either. Processors and other components on the board can only handle so many power cycles before they inevitably fail. Sure, it may be thousands or tens of thousands but think about how many times a day you turn your computer on and off and do the math :)
@Haiyami Wrong! Windows 7 only boots using one core on the CPU, windows 8 uses all the available cores to boot, so it will diffidently be faster at booting. Thumbs up if you want that ass-hole making unfair judgement to see this!
@DeathMagneticReece I thought if you went into the system configuration/boot/Advanced options/ and enabled all of the threads and cores it does utilize them?
My machine loads windows 7 almost instantly. This isn't a fair comparison since the beta essentially has nothing on it. If you set up your system properly, the boot time is not an issue.
Windows 8 Yuck, give your old PC life install Ubuntu - oh and its FREE no catch. Easy to use, so much innovation and ease of use has never been better in a Linux OS.
Change is usually painful. I have good feelings regardless. You really have to carefully study where PC is going towards. Look at the previous changes. Before iPhone came out, I was reading from WSJ that Apple was planning to come out with a product like iPod with phone built into it. I was sceptical towards it because I thought people wanted to have seperate devices for different purposes for better use. Turned out that I was super completely wrong. And why does this change bother anyways?
Why are all OS's going with the touchscreen interface, they are all copying each other and will windows 8 be compatible with standard applications... we'll have to see I guess.
@halofan2233 gates retired in January 2000. He didn't make this. I tried it. Its pretty nice to use actually on a tablet. But that desktop tile is what the desktop version of win8 should look like.
@PSRBF6 Yep Windows 2000 was the first OS made under Ballmer's leadership. Gates was the chairman ever since and completely retired in 2008 after Vista.
This may not be a fair test is the windows 7 install a new install or a old one it may have to load all ur files unlike windows 8 that is clean just throwin that out there.
It's great that vis- i mean windows 8 has improved under the hood, but it does remind me of something else that was advocated in the same way ... coughvistacough
anyway, i guess it's just part of the standard microsoft release schedule. throw out new tech, improve new tech, throw out new tech, improve tech. (win 95, 98, 2000, XP, vista, 7)
@UnknownEncryption Your desktop is right there, a click away. Also, you should get use to tablet-like interfaces, the future is there, the desktop paradigm is only going to be here as a mainstream thing for a relatively short amount of time (the new touch paradigm is to the desktop paradigm what the desktop paradigm was to the command line interface).
But I have to say.. your windows 7 setup is very slow- you should take a look at tuneup utilities to tune up your system.. especially take a look in what takes system ressources (load), deactivate / uninstall unused programs and services and voila. superfast windows 7..
but to windows 8... looks great.. but can just say (about TIME MS), as when XP and Win7 was in beta. haha
@minigunexo It's still possible to enter the areo experience that will never not be in a version of windows since if it just had the Mango it would be considered a tablet OS.
Why do people complain/salivate over boot times so much? I only need to boot my computer once every week or three, for updates or crashes. Poweron from suspend only takes a few seconds, and preserves my working environment. I would rather Microsoft work on reducing the monstrous disk footprint (16GB, wtf?), and making the software environment more modular so that I can choose not to install all their crappy "features".
here in win 8 when we shut down the pc the user session will shut down while the kernel session will be hibernating and when we start the PC the kernel will resume and user session will get loaded .thus minimizing the boot time
To be fully honest I have a shut computer and it runs xp. It takes literally 15 secs to boot, and it boots to the fullest extent. On top of that I have a shit hp that was never publicly released since they died off in the comp making business, and it boots windows 7 quickly too.
Win8 preview is not loading into the desktop like Win7 and therefore quicker then Win7 but I have to admit that Win8 is damn fast with the new changed loading process. Definitly increased boot time overall.
@DevilDriver665 It loads both desktops. (I believe, since so many people are complaining, because they are always running, so it is safe to assume they both are loaded.)

For the people that think there computer boots faster on 7 your going in the wrong direction with this whole thing. Less random access memory is needed for 8, thus making it more efficient for tablet users. It's going to be faster. For the people claiming 7 is a 12 sec boot time on there rig, if they use windows 8 it would be about 10sec.
