  • LOL, BIOS fail

  • My PC with windows7 starts with about 5-7 seconds depending how long i take to type in the password. U can utilize these thigns

  • @vertibirdsoldier

    Bullshit.

  • @smartguy9765 U are a fokcing nerd

  • iPhone is faster. just slide the arrow and ur win

  • @TheInsanityGame

    Ha, you're a funny guy.

  • @iAmTheGuySometimes thanks !!!!

  • Windows XP wins!

  • fucking loading BIOS ! i dont understand why they dont do something about this

  • 0nathre0 you are so right Macs rock windows sucks

  • A mac is faster than that...

  • This is not a fair test cause windows 8 is a developer preview!

then again what if you have a slower comp running win 7 and a faster one running the shity win 8

  • total rubbish...

  • windows 8 + SSD = Uber fast boot time :D

  • I like ur name :)

  • Agree with everyone else on here. You can compare a final build of windows 7 to a developer preview of windows 8. I mean...a developer preview won't have all the drivers or boot logs.

  • how do linux users get around Microsoft decision with arm?

  • Tbh i tested the timer, and mine booted faster than your windows 8 :)

  • windows 8 is beta....... windows 7 is full version......thats y windows 8 boots faster :D

  • Loser? Don't you mean looser?

  • That's the slowest Win 7 boot I've seen in a long time...

  • windows 8 looks so fucking dumb

  • @ilovemusicd00d ur right ...

  • du my ep121 windows 7 loads faster than your windows 8 ... 13 secs

  • windows 7 + ssd caching: winner, half-baked windows 8: loser

  • My windows vista & windows me boot up faster than windows 8..., Hey, can you do vista vs me boot up test???

  • naja auf dem windows 7 pc warn ja schon 100 sachen installiert... wenn schodan beides frisch installiereen und dann vergleichen also mein windows 7 startet schneller, trotzdem gewinnt windows 8 mit einigen sekunden vorsprung.

  • Windows 8 Boot Faster because hybrid boot, if you turn off hybrid boot in Windows 8, boot was slower....

  • It looks like they have replaced the windows start menu with the Tab groups option from Firefox.

  • Joke! Compared PC OS vs Mobile OS. And who cares about boot times these days? When we needed faster boot time, Microsoft tooked a piss for 20 years and now they can impress only with that? FAIL!

  • Why do people measure how good an OS is by how fast it boots up... Hell. I turn my computer on and walk away and do something else, by the time I come back it's ready. I don't sit there and stare at it....

  • windows 8 looks awful, it just looks like its full of advertisements.. thats a windows i will be ignoring..

  • windows 9 coming in 2014. lol

  • Still slower than my mac.

  • @keeganscomputerhelp who cares how long it takes to turn on once its on its on.. PC can do more once its on end of..

  • @keeganscomputerhelp they are both still slower than my win7

  • start button + Restart option = the same speed as windows 7 or even SLOOOOOOOOOOOOWER! this test is just stupid....no offense.

  • facebook.com/pages/Quantum-Gamers/128953657197297

  • How about you retry that test with a CLEAN installation of Windows 7? You have 10 pinned applications, which include Chrome (Google Updater Service takes time to start) and a bunch of other stuff. Next time you want to fake the results, try unpinning your icons.

  • @dstruct2k Those 30+ apps launching their tile info on Windows 8 dont mean anything?

  • @Tyler11440 Not really, since they all just load a cached bitmap from the last run that eventually gets updated.

  • @unbreakablefootage any way.... what is your problem? any why do yu say that i am weird you fakin counter-strike nerd...? go get a new pc so you can play the 2011 games like i do... skyrim... ultra quality... and all the details ultra... A... and something more... get a life you nerd... and stop doing shity comments...

  • WTF boot test? hahahaha

  • god id tap the tmobile girl so hard

  • WINDOWS 8 IS GOING TO RULE THE MARKET! THEY LOOK AWESOME! REALLY COOL AND THEY ARE A WHOLE NEW LOOK FOR OS.... THIS IS THE FIRST BIG CHANGE SINCE THE FIRST MAC OS... windows 94,xp,vista,7,mac os1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,X LOOKS SAME... THE METRO IS THE FUTURE... IT's THE FIRST REAL CHANGE MADE SINCE THEN...

  • @stel1000 yep.. youre weird.

  • If your measure of how good an operating system is based on bootup time, then I feel sorry for you. For one thing, I doubt Windows 8 loads the Explorer shell in the beginning. The desktop is only loaded after you click on the desktop app from the Metro UI, which isn't the case for Windows 7. Hence, this isn't a fair test.

  • Wow man your BIOS loads incredibly slow. My bios is done within 5 seconds and windows starts loading. Enable quick boot, which only tests HDD smart capability and not RAM for errors which is stupid, and turn off IDE controller since you don't have any ide drivers. Also disable that Realtek Ethernet boot agent. Cheers :)

  • For those who don't know, the entire OS is not the Metro Start Screen, there is a desktop feature like Windows 7 which is alot nicer to look at. It uses less recources, giving a higher framerate in video games.

  • Здорово!

  • same here, my W7 boots like his W8. SSD hurrah!

  • am i the only one who never turn off my pc?

  • @JPRTN I never turn mine off either. Processors and other components on the board can only handle so many power cycles before they inevitably fail. Sure, it may be thousands or tens of thousands but think about how many times a day you turn your computer on and off and do the math :)

  • Last Core i7 + Sata III + 16 DDr3 + Windows 7 64 = Boot under 20 sec ... Don't need upgrade my system ...

  • Mine certainly doesn't take that long to boot up. Either way, losing 20-30 seconds isn't going to keep me up at night..

  • Something tells me one had a faster hard drive than the other? It'd be funny if he booted the Win 8 from a SSD and the Win 7 from a 7200RPM :P

Either way, Win 8 is still in development so it should be faster.

  • Comment removed

  • u have pressed some button to skip boot

  • I have AMD Bulldozer @ 4.5Ghz boot time on Windows 7 - 8 seconds

Suck on my doodle windows 8

  • @Dr3aDnAuGhTz

Gimmie that SSD and let me see how fast my 4.8Gig 2600k boots it ;)

  • @Dr3aDnAuGhTz yep his pc is shit my windows 7 boots faster than his windows 8.

  • Fake or not?

  • It's like Microsoft is trying to make their own Facebook/Google+ in OS form

  • even with some tools disabling metro ui , its fast

  • This isn't even a valid test. You're working with a developer version which is obviously going to boot faster.

  • @Haiyami And what's the difference except the bugs and the functionality of the Windows store with the release?

  • @Haiyami when is htis going to be officially released?

  • @Haiyami or alot slower -.-

  • @Haiyami *slower

  • @Haiyami Wrong! Windows 7 only boots using one core on the CPU, windows 8 uses all the available cores to boot, so it will diffidently be faster at booting. Thumbs up if you want that ass-hole making unfair judgement to see this!

  • @DeathMagneticReece I thought if you went into the system configuration/boot/Advanced options/ and enabled all of the threads and cores it does utilize them?

  • @brickulater No, the code for windows 7 is only set to boot using one core.

  • @DeathMagneticReece Hmm, well at least my computer is new and supports UEFI all my other ones don't, thanks for the info!

  • @brickulater np :)

  • @Haiyami your stupid. which is obviously.... correct.

  • WE CARE A LOT

  • im useing windows 8 for 2 weeks now...its best os on earth!!

go go microsoft ....w8 for better driver/software support since that is only prob so far :/

  • So what? My alarm clock boots much faster than Windows 8. It’s almost as useless too.

  • My machine loads windows 7 almost instantly. This isn't a fair comparison since the beta essentially has nothing on it. If you set up your system properly, the boot time is not an issue.

  • @xsmicro yes you can change colors and wallpaper as well in the Apps Metro but you will need some software for that ;)

  • @xsmicro yes you can change colors and wallpaper as well in the Apps Metro

  • Can you change the green background to a different color?

  • BIOS need to be fixed first it takes more to initialize the hardware than to boot the OS.

I do not use windows so I do not care about 7 or 8.

  • How bout trying a fresh Win 7 load and not one thats obviously been used when you see an icon on the desktop and 10 on the taskbar

  • I am impressive.

  • Windows 8 looks retarded, not even like a Microsoft Windows. Hands down.

  • What computer are you using, I have a Asus eSlate tablet (Core i5) that boots in just 7 seconds...

Another thing windows 7 MUST boot faster than that, you must check your start up services and programs.

  • Windows 8 Yuck, give your old PC life install Ubuntu - oh and its FREE no catch. Easy to use, so much innovation and ease of use has never been better in a Linux OS.

  • @burstpipes So true....

  • pffff ... lifehacker. Disable Metro and add a few users.

  • was it a clean install of windows 7? doubpt it

  • Lol

  • Change is usually painful. I have good feelings regardless. You really have to carefully study where PC is going towards. Look at the previous changes. Before iPhone came out, I was reading from WSJ that Apple was planning to come out with a product like iPod with phone built into it. I was sceptical towards it because I thought people wanted to have seperate devices for different purposes for better use. Turned out that I was super completely wrong. And why does this change bother anyways?

  • WTF WINDOWS 8 LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING OFF A PHONE

  • it loaded slower cause it wasn't a fresh install

  • Comment removed

  • Why are all OS's going with the touchscreen interface, they are all copying each other and will windows 8 be compatible with standard applications... we'll have to see I guess.

  • @SilverGunZoO Mac is OK

  • windows 8 looks shit. what the fuck gates?

  • @halofan2233 gates retired in January 2000. He didn't make this. I tried it. Its pretty nice to use actually on a tablet. But that desktop tile is what the desktop version of win8 should look like.

  • @PSRBF6 windows 7 and 95 are better then this.

  • @halofan2233 Define this. I'm talking about two variants. The Metro UI version and the version shown in the "Desktop Tile".

  • @PSRBF6 Yep Windows 2000 was the first OS made under Ballmer's leadership. Gates was the chairman ever since and completely retired in 2008 after Vista.

  • @halofan2233 Gates left CEO position in 2000 and retired in 2008. So gates had no part in this. Blame Ballmer.

  • @an65001 fuck ballmer

  • I don't care if it loads fast, I keep my PC on for months, I only restart it for a update or some shit.

I think I'll pass on this windows 8, it looks so bad, what's with that interface, my phone has a better interface wtf

  • This may not be a fair test is the windows 7 install a new install or a old one it may have to load all ur files unlike windows 8 that is clean just throwin that out there.

  • Ah man the BIOS let's them down!

  • It's great that vis- i mean windows 8 has improved under the hood, but it does remind me of something else that was advocated in the same way ... coughvistacough

anyway, i guess it's just part of the standard microsoft release schedule. throw out new tech, improve new tech, throw out new tech, improve tech. (win 95, 98, 2000, XP, vista, 7)

  • Redo the test With SSD's

  • i can care less it loads quick it looks like a fucking tablet or smartphone OS...

  • @UnknownEncryption personally, i think they are moving toward user friendly innovation. The easier it is to get to the better the software IMO

  • @chewdawgck its not innovation when its been done before.

and ive never had any problem getting software if you have maybe your an idiot.

  • @UnknownEncryption you can use the normal UI (same ui windows always had)

  • @UnknownEncryption Your desktop is right there, a click away. Also, you should get use to tablet-like interfaces, the future is there, the desktop paradigm is only going to be here as a mainstream thing for a relatively short amount of time (the new touch paradigm is to the desktop paradigm what the desktop paradigm was to the command line interface).

  • @UnknownEncryption Well you can easily change the GUI of win8 to look like win7.

  • @UnknownEncryption actually u can disable that so it looks like windows 7 or vista when u first log in

  • @UnknownEncryption Thankfully you can turn the whole "Metro" theme off on the Desktop version,

  • @UnknownEncryption Don't be stupid, you can still use the regular OS UI. Anyone who thumbed this up is a moron.

  • Mac for the win!!!!!!

  • @JaycePetersonTV Mac is shit.

  • one factor to both: win 8 recently formatted.... win 7 already used for certain time

  • i think it wasnt run on same machine but if it was the win 7 clearly was on hdd which means win 8 on my SSD will start in 1 sec after POST :p

  • Its always funny how uneducated mac fanboys come off.. complete idiots sputtering complete nonsense.

  • windows 8 looks like my samsung omnia 7 (windows phone) xD

  • you know I'm going to wait until windows 8 comes out I'm on an laptop so yea....

  • @lifehacker Full PC Specs?

  • Looks great with fast bootup times.

But I have to say.. your windows 7 setup is very slow- you should take a look at tuneup utilities to tune up your system.. especially take a look in what takes system ressources (load), deactivate / uninstall unused programs and services and voila. superfast windows 7..

but to windows 8... looks great.. but can just say (about TIME MS), as when XP and Win7 was in beta. haha

  • Wow windows 8 looks like shit where is the good old desktop?

  • @minigunexo Its under the desktop tile.

  • @minigunexo It's there, just hit the options for viewing. But I'm hoping you know that by now. Hope.

  • @IVisionLive there's really no video that shows the desktop how could have i known? >.>

  • @minigunexo You press one of the tabs and it brings you to desktop...

  • @minigunexo

    its under the desktop app......

  • @minigunexo It's still possible to enter the areo experience that will never not be in a version of windows since if it just had the Mango it would be considered a tablet OS.

  • lol Verifying DMI pool data........, feels like 90's

  • Were both tests done on the same machine?

  • @fopat3 yes

  • @fopat3 no comment...

  • @fopat3 Yes ,Pay Attention

  • Why do people complain/salivate over boot times so much? I only need to boot my computer once every week or three, for updates or crashes. Poweron from suspend only takes a few seconds, and preserves my working environment. I would rather Microsoft work on reducing the monstrous disk footprint (16GB, wtf?), and making the software environment more modular so that I can choose not to install all their crappy "features".

  • Official iPhone 4s video on my channel.Check it out :-)

  • windows 7 !

  • amazing ,

here in win 8 when we shut down the pc the user session will shut down while the kernel session will be hibernating and when we start the PC the kernel will resume and user session will get loaded .thus minimizing the boot time

  • To be fully honest I have a shut computer and it runs xp. It takes literally 15 secs to boot, and it boots to the fullest extent. On top of that I have a shit hp that was never publicly released since they died off in the comp making business, and it boots windows 7 quickly too.

  • Windows 8 looks (and performs) awesome!

  • Win8 preview is not loading into the desktop like Win7 and therefore quicker then Win7 but I have to admit that Win8 is damn fast with the new changed loading process. Definitly increased boot time overall.

  • @DevilDriver665 It loads both desktops. (I believe, since so many people are complaining, because they are always running, so it is safe to assume they both are loaded.)

  • @DevilDriver665 Actually Windows 8 is loading both the desktop and the Metro UI at the same time.

  • the only reason why windows 8 loadet fast its cause that's not the release product and so it loads faster...easy?

  • @DoomdCookie ...no. It is because the Hibernation file is now integrated with cold boot, so it boots significantly faster... Microsoft confirms this innovation on the Build site... Win7/Vista/XP did NOT have this capability.

  • Windows 8 is nasty and ugly. I like the Desktop, which they seem to have destroyed. :( I'll stick to the slower one thanks.

  • where can i download windows 8

    its damn cooool

  • @ankit866Google search Windows 8 download.. it's the first one (straight from msdn downloads

  • @ankit866 check microsoft page>developer tools

  • @DoomdCookie hey its a demo

where can i get FULL version...

  • @ankit866 dunno....no ETA atm

  • @DoomdCookie so wen its cmn out

  • @ankit866 lol....i think you don't know what ETA means..... ETA= estimated time arrival so they didn't publiced a date for the moment

  • the winner is windows 95

  • u wish it looks like lion ....

  • Windows 8 ?? no an old version of OS X. u wish it looks like Lion ! but no

  • @TheNewWilliamstoo ahh yeah whatever, my laptop is faster then that turtle =)

  • @bote117 yeah but your pc with windows 8 would be faster and would make your current pc look like a snail...

  • @RandomDirectors but if my PC will be as fast as the Pc on the video, forget it, I prefer to stay with my snail hahaha

  • so did microsoft add anything to the actual desktop????

Everyone is saying that u click "desktop" to get windows 7.......

  • Very Nice...

  • Vista ftw. \m/

  • Hah, Mac computer on the second screen xp

  • For the people that think there computer boots faster on 7 your going in the wrong direction with this whole thing. Less random access memory is needed for 8, thus making it more efficient for tablet users. It's going to be faster. For the people claiming 7 is a 12 sec boot time on there rig, if they use windows 8 it would be about 10sec.

  • Well its still the Beta Version but i hope the improved and fixed version be still be fast :D

  • i think windows is great. and im writting this with my mac book pro :)
