  • Hi Dave been a while since we talked. But I wanted you to do a segment on Audio illusion in music and the best way to use it and when. Sample: The Virtual Barbershop.

  • Awesome show!! Very inspiring and helpful.

  • honestly I've been a singer all my life since the age of 5. Have done some background work in the studio, but never have I been as enlightened as this video lesson or show. I'm currently taking a class for the first time in Electronic music. As a singer this will help even more how to be clear on what I desire out of a session and understand the process better. This is great.

  • AWESOME!!

  • 20:50 did he want to say "i'll give u you a BT link to version 5" ? lol.

  • @gcinfamous

haha yea i think so too

  • "he makes alot of money", "dont use cracks" lol.

  • I am loving this shit dave is the man!

  • I tried googling some of this stuff and I cant even find them...also

    Thank you Mr Dave

  • THANKS DAVE!!

  • Awesome show! thanks for doing this Dave!

  • Awesome episode, really great!

  • YOU ARE AWESOME!!

  • Dave, you gotta say "no homo" when your talking about knobs my man...

  • That cowbell is familiar, I remember hearing it in some trip-hop/big beat track in the 90s - which means it's one for the crate digger fraternity.

  • Another request for Terry Date here :)

Love the show guys - I realize things are coming together pretty quickly with Pensado's Place at the moment, keep on top of the wave and ride it fella's, your doing a fantastic job. Would also love an ITL about mixing on a large format console like your SSL - not many of us would get that opportunity these days, but would love a run down in case I do get the chance to sit in front of one in the hot seat - Cheers from Matt Saggs

  • I always feel bad if I realize I hadn't instantly clicked "like" on each episode and rush to do so. lol. I love this show so much I hope it'll keep it going forever, ITL is just the most amazing insight that so many of us had spent years wishing to get a peep into, even just once! Thank you Dave, Herb & all the crew.

Oh and I have a request... would you consider (with appropriate artist.producer clearance) streaming live from a mix session one time? Could work with a Q&A with the live chatroom

  • Finally someone who actually understands music commented a Linkin Park song!

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH. seriously, I really appreciate it

  • Very good engineers with great talent>really takes either a gift>or years of training to become a great engineer>No shortcuts :)

  • Dave, Do you have any suggestions on where I should begin learning PT and is there any particular order I should address as far as learning about compressors, EQs recording, room sounds, reverbs .. etc...I am starting out with ... This Is Pro Tools .. Open Box and Install .. haha... I am completely green and dont have much confidence. Take a listen to my channel .. you'll see what I mean ;-)

  • 20:55 haha "ill uh uh uh uh" he wanted to say give them to you. but of course cant on the show lol. i love dave, he is my idol : )

  • My question is, I know it is important to have the best mics you can afford. However, is there a well rounded mic that can do most jobs? Or if you had to what 2 mike would you have. I have an Audio Technica 4033, I would love to have a U87. You talked about the M149 and a good neve pre. What would be a great mic rig?

  • Dave = God

  • hope these guys start gettin technical. sounds like a infomercial right now :( (13mins into the vid)

  • @Pete75227 Make sure you check out all of the videos. This one is from January 2011, they have vastly improved since then!

  • amazing ! keep it work Dave!

  • hahaha hearing how Hilary Duff and JoJo prepared Ariel using auto-tune/melodyne etc..is hilarious :D Great video! I love the honesty and the intelligence in this series :)

  • Amazing Show, I'm making reruns...

  • This is frickin' tittayz!

  • great stuff. thanks so much

  • EXELENTES VIDEOS , GRACIAS.

  • AMAZING !!! thanks for the knowledge !

  • please never stop making these!!!

  • Too long; didn't watch?

For the first five minutes some guys discuss what's going to happen during the video and the upcoming ones. One of them has an iPad.

From there until 13:00 this guy sits there and clicks buttons, calls lots of plugins "amazing" without demonstrating what they actually do.

At 17:00 the mixing guy talks. The iPad is gone. I learned nothing useful.

After that it probably isn't worthwhile. At least you tried.

  • I really love using mp3bat (just google it) for s00ngs. The wbsite has everything I would ever want.

  • thankyou for this

  • Thanks so much Dave!

  • Was wondering what mouse Dave is using.

  • im a female asian and french upcoming rapper : )

  • I was turned onto pensado's place yesterday...thankfully. What an awesome resource! Thanks to everyone involved for making this available to us.

  • Is it just me or Dave Pensado looks totally baked when he is sitting in front of the computer?

  • @Lgw1984 I am totally baked usually doing my show. JK.

  • @Lgw1984 see my vids & learn herbs like kelp, kale, dill, dock, dandelion, coriander ETC!

  • awesome.....GOD BLESS YOU

  • what is tracking ?

  • Great show, but those plugs are no way near as good as he makes out. The Flux maybe, but waves are soo overrated. .

  • This is freakin awesome!!!!!!

  • Don't get me wrong, Pensado's place is great.... but I really think you guys should step up the presentation. It looks like an episode of Charlie Rose minus the pizazz...

  • Just found this channel and I don't know how I could have missed it. I keep my ear to the ground on most things music related but this has completely passed me by. This is an amazing show, something that I'm sure millions of us out there have been waiting for and after watching the first one with Herb & Zan I most definitely have to check out all the others! Thank you so much for creating a place where people like me who are trying to figure things out can learn from the pro's! Fantastic!

  • Thank you

  • Can i get user Feedback on the HSM 50's since NS-10's are discontinued. Got me a pair of these Yamaha monitors. They work pretty well for me, useful EQ controls, TRS &XLR inputs =)

  • dave is my hero!

  • this guy is the boss i was very fortunate to mix a song with him i produced in his studio in la with sean paul and keysha cole

  • You know, i still cant help but puttin an extra A in the name. Penasado ... i can't break the darn habit ..

  • Dave what kind (brand) of amplifier do you recommend for using the Yahamaha NS10m Studio

  • This concept is going to upset Khaliq Glover lol

  • Davenport might be a good engineer but his public speaking skills are terrible. His delivery is slow and broken which makes it very difficult to engage in anything he's trying to explain. James Bernard is the opposite and thus a great teacher in my opinion

  • So... sponsored by Waves then Dave?

  • Thanks for doing this :)

  • Hey Dave. I Go to The Art Institute of LA and One of my teachers told me to check out your show and It is one of the best things Ive ever seen on engineering.. AMAZING keep it up:)

  • he probably doesn't use plug-ins

  • If Dave can could he PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a video on how he proceses vocals and the speciffic plugins he uses to mix vocals. If he can I would be most thankful.

  • Greetings from Melbourne Australia Dave! Excellent show!

  • whoa! how have I not found this already? thanks Dave for doing this...excited to watch all your videos!

  • This is really a great show pure genius!

  • Cool show - thanks guys for doing this! Very interesting stuff... I am looking forward to future episodes! :)

  • I just love the southern flavor. The one thing that has always amazed me is how southern folks hide their intelligence with their laid back speech. They fumble a lot with their words. George Bush was like this and most people, who dont know people from the south, immediately think a person who talks like this is stupid--but its how all of them talk regardless of how smart. I not saying GWB was a genius but people showed how ignorant they are of southern mens speech patterns.

  • @Rizzy55 I would rather listen to southren talk than ebonics..ebonis makes people sound very stupid!

  • Excellent videos! Thanks for doing this! Maybe focus more on audio examples where you tweek gear, change microphones etc? Anyways, thanks!

  • Great episode...you haven't changed a bit. Eric Sanders

  • Nice! I love this! Good work!

  • Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge but 41 minutes & no musical examples??!!

A real world example is always better than theoretical explanation.

  • I like it when Ariel is like "Jojo really pushes me on working with auto tune". Is that because she can't sing? And what exactly do you have to track besides the vocals on that kind of music? I'm new to all this so I'm just asking. thanks

  • @sethlaelmusic If you listen to what they say, they stress that it isnt because she cant sing, they state that she is a great singer.....the producer wanted it ultra tuned.

  • This is a great thing here! I'm an Instant subscriber!

  • sweeeett!!!

  • awesome stuff. i'm really looking forward to more.

    cheers

  • ahh .. here is a question i would like to know about from you: what do you think about working with 96khz vs. 44/48? is it really worth it? do you feel it helps, eventhough most of the music will be listened to on mp3 in the real world? thx!

  • Greatgreat stuff!! Can't wait for the next episode!

  • PLEASE PLEASE don't let wonderful opportunity with Mr. Pensado go into another "tips and tricks for beginners" and "my go-to preset for kick". This show seems amazing, finally some food for those who HAVE actually eaten the million beginner's tutorials available. Thanx and congrats.

  • cool idea! i really don't mind if you go more into DETAIL! looking forward to the 2buss session .... ;-) keep up your great work!!

  • I like the idea of the show but I don't have a technical background in music so for 90% of the show, I was lost. Please have a segment that covers tips, tricks, etc for beginners. Thanks, and see you next week.

  • @daimyoyo Thanks for watching and thanks for your feedback! We will take that to heart and see you next week!

  • Great first episode, guys.
