Hi Dave been a while since we talked. But I wanted you to do a segment on Audio illusion in music and the best way to use it and when. Sample: The Virtual Barbershop.
honestly I've been a singer all my life since the age of 5. Have done some background work in the studio, but never have I been as enlightened as this video lesson or show. I'm currently taking a class for the first time in Electronic music. As a singer this will help even more how to be clear on what I desire out of a session and understand the process better. This is great.
Michael has been menitioned now a couple times during the 51 episodes. It would've been really interesting with an "MJ-special", bringing in people like Rob Hoffman, Bill Bottrell, Bruce Swedien, Jean-Marie Horvat and others. The engineers' stories are probably the most personal, yet untold, stories. Thank God for that legendary MJ-thread over at Gearslutz though. Another great thing would be bringing a producer and engineer who always work close side by side; e.g. Danja & Marcella Araica.
Love the show guys - I realize things are coming together pretty quickly with Pensado's Place at the moment, keep on top of the wave and ride it fella's, your doing a fantastic job. Would also love an ITL about mixing on a large format console like your SSL - not many of us would get that opportunity these days, but would love a run down in case I do get the chance to sit in front of one in the hot seat - Cheers from Matt Saggs
I always feel bad if I realize I hadn't instantly clicked "like" on each episode and rush to do so. lol. I love this show so much I hope it'll keep it going forever, ITL is just the most amazing insight that so many of us had spent years wishing to get a peep into, even just once! Thank you Dave, Herb & all the crew.
Oh and I have a request... would you consider (with appropriate artist.producer clearance) streaming live from a mix session one time? Could work with a Q&A with the live chatroom
Dave, Do you have any suggestions on where I should begin learning PT and is there any particular order I should address as far as learning about compressors, EQs recording, room sounds, reverbs .. etc...I am starting out with ... This Is Pro Tools .. Open Box and Install .. haha... I am completely green and dont have much confidence. Take a listen to my channel .. you'll see what I mean ;-)
My question is, I know it is important to have the best mics you can afford. However, is there a well rounded mic that can do most jobs? Or if you had to what 2 mike would you have. I have an Audio Technica 4033, I would love to have a U87. You talked about the M149 and a good neve pre. What would be a great mic rig?
hahaha hearing how Hilary Duff and JoJo prepared Ariel using auto-tune/melodyne etc..is hilarious :D Great video! I love the honesty and the intelligence in this series :)
YMCMB ALL DAY I Heard Lil Wayne Might signed This Rapper Named "iRetroBaby" But Isnt Too Sure Yet His Song "FATALITY" Is DOPE AS FUKK! GO Search That Ishh Up Foreal Yall Think Weezy Should?? ^_^
Don't get me wrong, Pensado's place is great.... but I really think you guys should step up the presentation. It looks like an episode of Charlie Rose minus the pizazz...
Just found this channel and I don't know how I could have missed it. I keep my ear to the ground on most things music related but this has completely passed me by. This is an amazing show, something that I'm sure millions of us out there have been waiting for and after watching the first one with Herb & Zan I most definitely have to check out all the others! Thank you so much for creating a place where people like me who are trying to figure things out can learn from the pro's! Fantastic!
Can i get user Feedback on the HSM 50's since NS-10's are discontinued. Got me a pair of these Yamaha monitors. They work pretty well for me, useful EQ controls, TRS &XLR inputs =)

Davenport might be a good engineer but his public speaking skills are terrible. His delivery is slow and broken which makes it very difficult to engage in anything he's trying to explain. James Bernard is the opposite and thus a great teacher in my opinion
Hey Dave. I Go to The Art Institute of LA and One of my teachers told me to check out your show and It is one of the best things Ive ever seen on engineering.. AMAZING keep it up:)
Hey dave. I Go to The Art Institute of LA and One of my teachers told me to check out your show and It is one of the best things Ive ever seen on engineering.. AMAZING keep it up:)
If Dave can could he PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a video on how he proceses vocals and the speciffic plugins he uses to mix vocals. If he can I would be most thankful.
I just love the southern flavor. The one thing that has always amazed me is how southern folks hide their intelligence with their laid back speech. They fumble a lot with their words. George Bush was like this and most people, who dont know people from the south, immediately think a person who talks like this is stupid--but its how all of them talk regardless of how smart. I not saying GWB was a genius but people showed how ignorant they are of southern mens speech patterns.
I just found this series. I really love what you are doing here and I can see a lot of other people are also loving it. Thanks for spending time to share what you know and do with other people.

Too long; didn't watch?
For the first five minutes some guys discuss what's going to happen during the video and the upcoming ones. One of them has an iPad.
From there until 13:00 this guy sits there and clicks buttons, calls lots of plugins "amazing" without demonstrating what they actually do.
At 17:00 the mixing guy talks. The iPad is gone. I learned nothing useful.
After that it probably isn't worthwhile. At least you tried.
