  • Actually, this red flag was not for the track surface, but for a funeral at the cemetery next to the track. Racing must stop when there is a funeral there. In 1971, the Cup race was red-flagged for a funeral.

IMO, MTV's destroying of the CBS motorsports department was the cruelest thing for short-track racing. Ask Knoxville.

  • i cant remember if it was the '97 or '98 race but TNN mentioned the cemetary behind turn 2 and backstretch and how at times they stop racing action for funerals and such out of respect for the deceased and their families

  • I still think it's amazing they raced at Hickory.

  • yeah old school TNN broadcasts of the cup and busch series back in the early '90's with Mike Joy, Buddy Baker and Neil Bonnett was the best. I miss TNN.

  • Miss the old TNN telecasts with Joy, Baker and Neil Bonnett. RIP Neil, he was one of the best...in and out of the car. Also miss the Busch/Nationwide running short tracks and stand-alones. This series actually had an identity in 1992.
