  • Jossie's Giants... LOL

  • From the brain of Sid Waddell. Said in a Geordie accent: "At the age of 32 Alexander of Macedonia cried salt tears because there were no more worlds to conquer. Eric Bristow is 27!"

  • Created by Sid "you could hear a blob of vinegar drop on a chip" Waddell. I had no idea until I saw the title credits after what, 25 years? Brilliant upload.

  • Anyone got all the episodes on dvd as i would be interested?

  • tut tut, spelling mistake in the episode title.

  • Absolute tosh was this show, and the theme was awful as well.

  • Awesome programme. Loved the way they taught footballing kids to act because it was easier than teaching young actors to play football.

  • Sissys Antjog wouldnt be allowed these days! Not with all the homophobes!!

  • CEEFAX 888 Yes!!!

  • You don't get theme tunes like that any more, what a corker.

  • Created by the legend Sid Waddell god i really loved this, in fact if it was released on DVD i would buy it!!!, also agree with damieand mark!

  • Is it me or were Jossy and Phil Brown separated at birth?

  • fan-bloodytastic show!! great memories

  • Nothing's quite what it used to be, eh!

  • @ShizuokaDolphin Nostalgia ain't what it used to be.

  • england still had an indentity back then

  • who was the fit girl in this that later appeared as sally websters sister in corrie?

  • Football's just a branch of science..!!!! Oh great memories!!

  • @wmrxb15 This show was a load of guff and I hated it and the theme tune.

  • @rojblake82 Me too :-/

  • Surely thats not Sid Waddell the darts Commentator

  • @mkbuddy Yes it is Sid Waddell the Darts Commentator, he has written and produced lots of things

  • Sounds like Sid singing the theme tune aswell......''ON THE WIRE''!

  • i remember when they got fined 50p for not having there socks taped up on josseys giants....... nazis

  • So many memories, they don't make kids shows like this anymore. This is real kids tv

  • Makes you feel old doesn't it?

  • MAN, I LOVED THIS! Reminds me of my childhood. All my mates played togger.

    Great times.

  • If I was the bloke in the precinct with the sports wear shop I would have told that cheeky chap where to go and lived on chips for rest o' my life....

  • Ahhhh I adored this is a kid, what memories!

  • Haha, saw this on the list on the right - thought I recognised the name, and I do!! lol

  • did anybody see who wrote it? Sid waddell is it thee sid waddell?

  • @MOCONKLIN Yes it is the very same Sid Waddell who rambles on about side-stackers, under-stackers and over-stackers weekly haha Can't you recognise his voice on the song?

  • @UJSupanova i never really listened to it but now i do hear him, fandabydozzie

  • @MOCONKLIN

Yes it is THE Sid Waddell (Darts Commentator) he's got a Degree in English I beleive

  • This was filmed in Stalybridge in the mid 1980s, I went to school in Stalybridge and at lunch times the bullies from our school would go to filming in an attempt to twat some of the young actors especially that perm headed kid.

As far as I am aware no young actors were harmed

  • Loved it

  • Loved jossey's giants - don't they have special where they sang it in Spanish?

Btw, if you remember this or Gruey, please do not watch 9 Songs or you will face mental trauma...

  • @impy78 ive just asked about gruey then scrolled down and seen you post about it. Gruey was great

  • hartlepool need to go back to been jossys giants then they might win something

  • i still remember this one espesh the Jossys giants bit of the song, glad i got it right after all these years!

  • Even though I hated football at the time, this was a good show. I used to watch it by the fire, with a cuppa and an iced bun! Funny what you recall.

  • rnt we still under the f***in siege of st james' :(

  • i have this on dvd if you are interested PM me!

  • @deangarman

    Ill buy a copy

  • This just made me burst out laughing. I loved this programme... but I remember the cast as being older than me, now I look back and they were young kids!

  • I feel you. I swear the goalkeeper, Harvey, was about 6' 4" and looked as if he ate nails for breakfast. What happened?

  • Perms. Pink. Lemon. Lyle and Scott and Pringle. What more can be said of this time.

  • used to love this JOSSYS GIANTS!!!!!

  • Brilliant! Although me and my mates changed the lyrics a bit.

    Here come Jossy's Giants

Footballs just a branch of science

Head the ball up Jossy's ar*ehole

    Jossy's Giants!

  • OH My god I completly forgot about this!

  • i was tryin to find it i forgot it was jossy jessy's giants got me nowhere

  • you just dont get these shows anymore (grange hill, simon and the witch, woof, supergran, ect) its like a part of english life and culture has been cut out to cater for US inspired shows with kids who are usually 4/5 years older then the characters they are playing and who look like models and are always in the throes of teengae angst.

  • in one, nail on the head and all that pal. would fukin ban american imports for kids if i was in charge of tv.

  • Thier where some great US kids shows in the 80s,mostly toons like thundercats, transformers but also live action shows like Ramona or degrassi junior high, but those where american and our shows where british you could enjoy the differences. this distinction is fading all the time now for brit shows they are no longer original (thats if they are made at all) the death of terrestial tv kids shows is huge blow that has gone unoticed today if you dont have SKY you are F***** for shows for your kids.

  • You forgot wizbit!!!

  • Loved Wizbit it was a strange show by todays standards.

  • @damieandark couldnt agree more. if programmes like this or even if they just repeated the shows youve mentioned id watch them all over again. I feel sad for kids that have been poisoned with fuckin Hannah Montana American bullshit. Do you remember ''Gruey'' as well

  • @damieandark agreed, that and there aren't too many british kids left to watch these shows anyway if you know what i mean. its a miracle what they do put on is in English

  • oh my life!! i used to love this when i started to love football when the bigger kids moved on and i moved up a year, that way i got some footy action then. i hear ant and dec were interested in a doing a remake. would be cool :)

  • one of the hidden gems of kids tv in the 80s...clashed with johnny briggs, which was utter pap

  • It didn't clash with Johnny Briggs, they were both shown on BBC1.

  • @culturedeluxe wasnt there a programe on after called colur in the creek about 2 aussie kids ?

  • no it didnt!! both shows were on bbc so how did they clash?

  • shaped my childhood...sheer class

  • After seeing this, I'm ashamed to say that I was into this when I was little. Bunch of cockney freaks.

  • Cockney freaks from Lancashire?

  • Lancashire ? They're Geordies ... H'away the lads ...

  • Jossy is, but the show is set in Lancashire. They ain't Geordies. The joke is Jossy played for NUFC and based the kids team on them, even calling their pitch St James Park. Why don't you watch an episode..

  • I have both series on disk if anyone is interested?

  • i would be intrested if you could let me have them how much or if you could do me copies and send them me be greatfull cheers let me no

  • how much?

  • hi mate just wondered if you was still about i lost disc 1 you sent me any chance you could send it me again and i could pay you the same way by pay pal aGAIN

  • lol at the ceefax 888 caption at the beginning. God i'm getting old.

  • never knew Sid Waddel wrote this "what an athlete!"

  • YES SID IS 50% MAD AND 50% VERY CLEVER .

  • Yes Sid Waddell is a very clever man and is a Cambridge graduate as well.

  • He once said a match between Steve Beaton and Raymond Barneveld was "tighter than a flea in a hairnet".

  • On Wikipedia, says the goalie may be tipped to play the next Doctor Who when Mr. Tennant packs in.

  • Who's the singer? Sounds like Mr Holder to me.

  • im sure its Mike Batt, but i could be wrong...

  • Could be, though it sounds like a northern accent. I've never heard Mike Batt sing rock before - it's certainly his sort of pitch, though, so you might be right.

  • The singer is Mike Amatt who did Forget me not Farm with crows on his shoulders, and Mop And Smiff. I worked on a panto with him years ago and we were talking about Jossys Giants

  • when we were kids me and my mates wrote to Jimel fix it to play aaint jossys giants lol we never got a reply

  • Me and my cousin did a similar thing. We wrote to 'The Chuckle Brothers' and offered to fight them 2-on-2, bare knuckle with a prize of £100 (a lot of money at the time). They never wrote back either.

  • lol i wish you had smashed their faces, they made a fortune at being crap

  • cant believe i still remember the words to this and murphys mob

  • My brother played 'Daz'!

  • great post loved this as a kid.

  • H'way the Glyton Grasshoppers. I LOVED Jossy's Giants. Does anyone recall the story from series 2 where the Italian club comes to play them and they where pink strips? Can I get this on DVD???????

  • it's when one of the lads' mum washes the kit with a red sock so they all have to play in pink strips - that was always my favourite episode!

  • Yeah, and the Italian's nicked all their girlfriends at the disco! Funny what comes back to you after 20 years!

  • I used to love this show when I was a kid, what year was this? 1985?

  • I was mad on football and this was my era. WOW what memories. I watched this dreaming i could of been pro . I never made it

  • wow.just gone back in time to when i was having me tea after skoo!

  • oh i loved this show!!!!.. made me wanna play foote big time!

  • Haha! John Judd (the sadistic Mr Sands from "Scum" )is in this programme!

  • Used to love this show... Even though I hated football at school!

  • Blimey... haven't seen this in like 20 years! lol.

  • dont make shows like this anymore

  • Classic

  • i knew i didnt imagine this!!!! ive had the tune in my head for over 10 years now and finally i know what it is lol

  • Sid Waddell? Didn't know that. Cantab and scriptwriter, eh?

  • I love youtube!

Where else can you see clips of shows from our schooldays and childhood?

I've just been looking for some real rare stuff from the faded memories of my mind.

One Summer, Scully, Budgie (albeit 80s repeats) and Jossy's Giants.

Gonna look for Murphy's Mob, Tucker's Luck, Knightmare, and Into The Labyrinth next.

  • Murphy's mob, now that takes me back to my school days...

  • no wonder they was wank if they modeled themselves on the mighty nufc. fuck all uve never won fuck all!!

  • No wonder the geordies never won anything. This show put a generation of north east boys off football!!!!

Terrible, apart from Bryan Robson's BAFTA winning cameo!

  • Oh the memories, classic tv haha

  • Oh man!!!

Cant believe this is actualy here!!! Wot a great show lol

  • greatest footy team ever

  • Well, it had to be because the Southerners couldn't play football!

  • This brings back memories of the good old days. i had no idea sid waddell wrote the show. going to look at videos of thundercats, blue thunder, knightmare and V next lol. i love this website.

  • A lot of the kids were cast from local kids's leagues because they figured it was easier teaching footballing kids to act than it would be to teach kid actors to play football.

  • Haha, loved the way they were rubbish in the first episode and became the best team in the league over night :o)

  • Whatever happened to Julie "Sally Webster's kid sister" Foy?

  • I remember Philip Schofield (or was it Andy Crane or Andi Peters?) apologising before this episode because the title had a spelling mistake in it. Ok, not a very exciting memory, but that's nostalgia for you... :-)

  • I say good for them! I bet the presenters of today wouldn't have the faintest idea.

  • 1986. Innocent times. I used to thimk Ross was so cool with his perm. LOL.

  • an 80s classic - bringing back some great memories - they dont make them like that anymore

  • Great stuff, but this version is slightly different from the version I remember. That had the line "Girlfriends cause distraction, Jossy wants more soccer action..""

  • That was one of the later series. As the kids grew up the lyrics changed incl. the famous "italian" version.

  • Kids TV at its best. The blonde Girl in it was very nice. She then went on to appear in Corrie. Julie Foy i think her name is.

  • Rememeber this from the late 1980's.

  • Loved this as a kid, nice one
