From the brain of Sid Waddell. Said in a Geordie accent: "At the age of 32 Alexander of Macedonia cried salt tears because there were no more worlds to conquer. Eric Bristow is 27!"
Created by Sid "you could hear a blob of vinegar drop on a chip" Waddell. I had no idea until I saw the title credits after what, 25 years? Brilliant upload.
If I was the bloke in the precinct with the sports wear shop I would have told that cheeky chap where to go and lived on chips for rest o' my life....
@MOCONKLIN Yes it is the very same Sid Waddell who rambles on about side-stackers, under-stackers and over-stackers weekly haha Can't you recognise his voice on the song?
This was filmed in Stalybridge in the mid 1980s, I went to school in Stalybridge and at lunch times the bullies from our school would go to filming in an attempt to twat some of the young actors especially that perm headed kid.
5 pound a series theres 2 series, this has been removed from ebay couple of times and struggling to get it bk on there so gona set up own website for it where you can pay direct through paypal, dvds come boxed with covers
This just made me burst out laughing. I loved this programme... but I remember the cast as being older than me, now I look back and they were young kids!
you just dont get these shows anymore (grange hill, simon and the witch, woof, supergran, ect) its like a part of english life and culture has been cut out to cater for US inspired shows with kids who are usually 4/5 years older then the characters they are playing and who look like models and are always in the throes of teengae angst.
Thier where some great US kids shows in the 80s,mostly toons like thundercats, transformers but also live action shows like Ramona or degrassi junior high, but those where american and our shows where british you could enjoy the differences. this distinction is fading all the time now for brit shows they are no longer original (thats if they are made at all) the death of terrestial tv kids shows is huge blow that has gone unoticed today if you dont have SKY you are F***** for shows for your kids.
@damieandark couldnt agree more. if programmes like this or even if they just repeated the shows youve mentioned id watch them all over again. I feel sad for kids that have been poisoned with fuckin Hannah Montana American bullshit. Do you remember ''Gruey'' as well
@damieandark agreed, that and there aren't too many british kids left to watch these shows anyway if you know what i mean. its a miracle what they do put on is in English
oh my life!! i used to love this when i started to love football when the bigger kids moved on and i moved up a year, that way i got some footy action then. i hear ant and dec were interested in a doing a remake. would be cool :)
Jossy is, but the show is set in Lancashire. They ain't Geordies. The joke is Jossy played for NUFC and based the kids team on them, even calling their pitch St James Park. Why don't you watch an episode..
hi mate just wondered if you was still about i lost disc 1 you sent me any chance you could send it me again and i could pay you the same way by pay pal aGAIN
Could be, though it sounds like a northern accent. I've never heard Mike Batt sing rock before - it's certainly his sort of pitch, though, so you might be right.
The singer is Mike Amatt who did Forget me not Farm with crows on his shoulders, and Mop And Smiff. I worked on a panto with him years ago and we were talking about Jossys Giants
Me and my cousin did a similar thing. We wrote to 'The Chuckle Brothers' and offered to fight them 2-on-2, bare knuckle with a prize of £100 (a lot of money at the time). They never wrote back either.
H'way the Glyton Grasshoppers. I LOVED Jossy's Giants. Does anyone recall the story from series 2 where the Italian club comes to play them and they where pink strips? Can I get this on DVD???????
This brings back memories of the good old days. i had no idea sid waddell wrote the show. going to look at videos of thundercats, blue thunder, knightmare and V next lol. i love this website.
A lot of the kids were cast from local kids's leagues because they figured it was easier teaching footballing kids to act than it would be to teach kid actors to play football.
