  • Perfect Ending!

All it needed was Mr. Potter getting beaten up by an angry mob, and this would have been the best movie ever! :D

  • this flim makes me teary it must be the greatest movie ever made

  • Waiting for Peter Griffin to push him off the bridge

  • @zachman0808

    I hope you're still waiting.

  • Love this film so much! Such a classic! Thanks for sharing!

  • your ignorance regarding why this is shown so rarely now is astounding! it has to do with copyrights and nothing else. research before you spout off.

  • ' when a bell rings a Angel gets its wings '

  • what a great message! they should start playing this in school for the children; the should study this classic. There are so many wonderful messages in this film. We sometimes get caught up in the world and forget what's really important. It's always the little things, the small things that make life worth living.

Thank you to all who created this amazing story!

God Bless and Merry Christmas to everyone!

  • This is the most uplifting and feel-good movie of all time. What if George hadn't existed? - the ripple effect to that would have been so sad. We are all inter -connected and have a part to play in the world - sometimes it takes pain, heart ached and lifes tribulations to make us realise that. Always sob my eyes out when he starts shouting "Where's Mary?"

  • While George is repeating "I want to live again!" Lois (from Family Guy) walks by and pushes him off the bridge.

  • @dolphinluv2413 prick. thats not funny at all

  • without getting too deep etc but this film really does make you think how wonderful life is and how each of us make a difference to peoples lives.lifes short folks!!

  • yup i agree

  • RM...: 25 years later "we all know each-other again", and Mr Potter is the one who's going to JAIL. A Lesson In Time Travel. +JVA+

  • Merry Christmas to alll the Mr potters who tried to make it a horrible year for all hard working people and GOT PLAYED!

  • It's playing now.... just finished watching it on NBC Christmas Eve. 2009

  • Wonderful and amazing film. For all the people who have ever muttered these words - "I wish I'd never been born" - We all have a a part to play in the world, we all matter, it just takes some people longer than others to find out where they fit in, and to feel they belong. Great Post.

  • Every time a Cheney speaks a demon gets its horns.

  • Greatest movie of all time. Compare this film to today's movies. How times have changed.

  • One of the best films ever made, and to be ever be made again. I have watched this film all my life, and I still find it touching and magic. A Christmas must film to watch.

  • I watch this movie and every time its make me cry because this shows no one if life is failure and that anyone can have a wonderful life in the end

  • God people are dumb and ignorant...why can't everyone just accept the fact that this was a wonderfully made classic movie that the whole family can enjoy. Why does it have to turn to race??? Every Youtube video has something to do with race!! Shut the hell up and enjoy the damn movie!

  • My favorite line: "Hey! Merry Christmas Mr. Potter!"

  • me too! i love it when he yells throughout the town and is happy to be back in Bedford Falls

  • The people who were similar to Frank Capra`s heroes created golden era of jazz and rock, the period in America between WWII and Vietnam war. After Vietnam, Rambo came in, and he created America today.

  • Dude who fucking cares about the racism? I'm not a racist but this stuff doesn't happen in movies anymore and was closer to socially acceptable back then. So all you shit out there who think they need to make comments about how this is fucking racist stay off the damn videos if you hate them so much and go get a fucking job

  • Wrong wrong wrong --- seriously Jimmy Stewart was a life long ANTI-RACIST ... Larry the Cable Guy is racist, but I don't see you spreading lies about him ... Be warned the law regarding DEFAMATION and LIABLE apply on You Tube too.

  • lol, ObamaRulesOnce, and then goes down in history as another Jimmy Carter. Not because he's black, but because he's weak.

Decisions can't be made by rhetoric, America's enemies can't be destroyed by hypocritical waffle.

Hope and Change, would shame a 4 year old, America needs to grow up.

  • "Isn't it wonderful, I'm going to jail" Classic line

  • robertjastrebski:

good point....this movie makes people aware ....of one another and how we are all intermingled....

  • "The ruling criminals have stopped this film from playing during the holiday..."

Here's the real deal on why it isn't aired as often:

teh copyright expired, it was in the public domain for years and everyone aired it. PBS stations, locals, you name it. Republic Pictures got clever. They couldn't copyright the film but they could copyright the soundtrack, thus allowing them to claim sole ownership of the film. NBC was the winner of a multi-year deal for exclusive rights to this film.

  • I'm sorry.. *Stewart

  • Such a wonderful movie, just watched it last night. Mr. Stuart was a great actor!

  • the movie isnt about all that stupid shit! yea its from a different time, so does that mean anything that depicts the way things worked back then should be removed? greatest movie ever and if u find something bad in this movie, its cuz youre looking for bads things and i pity you

  • obama rules forever,,,fuck you,,,its niggers like you that make people racists,,go back to africa,,,this is American Film Tradition.

  • So are you racist or are you claiming that people like ObamaRules4Ever make people racist? The irony of your written statement, of course, is that it's readily apparent that you have failed to master the language of this great country and that you are completely ignorant of its core principles. A lack of education should never be held against someone but ignorance, well, that's another story.

  • I don't view this film as racist so I'm not really sure where the racism angle is coming from.

  • moron. you blind little cultist obama worshipper. drink the kool aid.

  • It's not racist, because that's how it was back then. Most people who had servants were white, and most servants were black.

  • you are a piece of shit, do the world a favor and go stick your head in the oven, but be sure to smother your scumbag children while they sleep because you have to kill the seed of a monster like you. merry christmas uncle tom ass bitch

  • I remember seeing this on TV last Christmas eve.

  • It expresses free market ideals. The community is encouraged to keep their money in Bailey's, because without competition Potter can raise his interest rates sky high and charge whatever rent he pleases. IRL, Potter would be Tony Rezko and Barack Obama would be the Congressman on hold while he is offering George Bailey a job. Greed is human, but it is rewarded under fascism, the closest thing to socialism we've seen in the 20th c. Fascism eliminates market competition and resembles feudalism.

  • I should probably elaborate, because fascism is often confused as a far right concept. It is a central concept with socialism on the left and libertarianism on the left. A feudal society is a legal hierarchy of decentralized force. The place of every human being from monarch to serf is measured precisely by that persons ability to wield violence, and is matched by an elaborate hierarchy of rights and responsibilities. Fascism was a radically centralized socialist-capitalist hybrid system.

  • In fascist societies, property remains in private hands, but capitalist competition is replaced by government coordination, and wages and prices are set by edict; labor unions exist, but workers are forbidden to strike and disputes are arbitrated by government tribunals (no secret ballots.) Public officials are appointed by the party leadership rather than being elected by the people, as in democracy, or inheriting their positions, as in feudalism. Nepotism is where the two systems converge.

  • What do you mean it's not being played? Isn't it played all the time? And don't worry. We just elected a socialist president.

  • This is not the best movie ever made, BUT, it is the most perfect movie ever made....each and every scene and the whole movie, a perfect, absolute American gem. Absolute epic and 5 stars, for sure!

  • Epic *five stars*

  • greatest movie ever made.

  • You gotta love Jimmy Stewart!

  • I completly agree with you, and for those who hasn't seen this great movie, here is a link to watch it online:

    blogger-films.blogspot.*com/2008/10/its-wonderful-life.html

  • greatest movie ever made

  • dang! Britney did a BAngUp job playing Mary bailey! You could almost believe she was a virgin library queen.

  • This film is just incredible, its still played on tv even after 60 years.

    Great ideals and amazing acting.

    I want to live again.

    I get goosebumps everytime.

  • DANG!!! Holiday message of this move?

Don't mess wit Bert at Christmas.

  • No this movie wasn't taken off for the same reason eventually A Christmas Story will be removed. Because it was played to DEATH!

  • Actually, this movie was made to give people faith because of the growing atheism in Capra's time.

That YOU, robertjastrebski, choose to read more into it just means you spend way too much time doing nothing productive.

Yes, some idiots actually called the FBI and wanted the movie banned when it first came out, but even the FBI laughed at such a request.

What a stupid observation on your part, robertjastrebski.

  • There some undescribable feeling one gets whenever Jimmie Stewart is on camera. You get this warm feeling inside, knowing everything is going to be alright.

  • I love your disription. It is so true.

  • "The ruling criminals have stopped this film from playing during the holiday"?

    Where do you live?

In America this is shown every Christmas eve on NBC.

  • This movie is phenomenal. The number 1 movie of all time.

  • I AGREE

  • Idiotic comments from robertjastrebski the o.p.. Capra was a lifelong Republican and said he never voted for a democrat. Read his biographies. This film, as do most of Capra's films, promote justice, not government forced "fairness". Capra hated socialism. Also, the reason It doesn't air as much any more is because at one time it lost copywrite & fell into the public domain and was aired constantly. That has now been mended and only NBC has the right to show it, which they do, once a year.

  • Dear bluespringed -

My brother did mean to abuse me, and he was evil. He told me repeatedly that I was worth more dead than alive, and it hurt.

I did absolutely nothing to deserve the abuse, and it does leave permanent scars. Take care.

  • KAMIKAZR Just been reading your experiences on this page, and it was a terrible thing for you to go through, and i for one am very sorry you had to go through this.

However my opinion is you have to start your healing of this, by finding peace with yourself, and by the look of it you have allready started.

  • the story depicts the very essence of human being the good and the bad

  • Give you an example. This movie Its a wonderful life. We see in it the best, and the worse in human beens. You have jimmy stewart running through the town in tears of joy and happiness, that would soften the hardest of hearts, and then you have the worse with potters spiteful, mean spiritedness.

  • Its easy to dwell on the potter mentality, because its hurtful and leaves impressions on us. But my opinion is make the film work for you, and make jimmy stewarts ending the real inspiration.

  • Oh, and the most important thing is this. You are much, much, needed more ALIVE! than the other believe me. You have a very nice Good nature by the way that you talk, and there is not enough of that nowadays, so do not lose heart, start your healing, keep your faith in god, and yourself, and allways let the good be stronger than the bad. And i will wish you all the best. Take care.

  • Cool video! Me (doodleman10) and my brother (The Spade) are going to make a spoof of this movie tommorrow!

  • It is hard to let go of the past, and you are right. It was comforting of you, califgirl, and it is sooooo hard to let it go, BUT YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT !!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR COMFORTING MESSAGE - and you are right. May the Lord bless you.

  • You are very welcome my friend. Many blessings to you and have a wonderfull New Year! :)

  • KAMIKAZR, the best thing that I can suggest to you is to look inward for healing your abusive past. You must remember that Mr. Potter was just the character in this movie not, real. As far as your brother is concerned the reason he was saying those things to you is that he was doing so just to taunt and tease you. You must look inside yourself and forgive yourself of your abusive past. Always remember that you have a unique unlimited potential which helps make you strong.

  • When my brother turned in for the evening, I tried to regain some of my childhood back, but it was rather difficult, because the very next day, the abuse started all over again.

When we had this film on VHS when I was a child, my brother repeatedly replayed Mr. Potter's worth more dead than alive comment, and my brother delighted in doing this.

I see no difference between Mr. Potter and my brother - none at all.

  • What abusive past is califgirl101 talking about? If you don't want to tell me that is ok.

  • we watched alot worked bankfor mr palmer 2 sons home later oldest klled auto accident, now just movie remember Christmas, memories shared during certain parts movie, Strange that close eart touching scenes bring much us time again brings me back something connects me feeling that means much aybe that you feel something connecting I hope help thru this. ubrother not meaning to hurt you ust surely value brother would these things, If I can ever help you let me know.

    lynne

  • only 500 words how can I explain I deleted some, hope you can understand,,,

  • I just don't understand why my brother did what he did, and it was frightening, and he never gave me a break from the abuse, except when he truned in for the night, and out for walks.

He was another Mr. Potter - and to this day, I cannot handle Mr. Potter and his abusive remark he said to George. If saying one is worth more dead than alive is not abuse, I don't know what is. That was really uncalled for, and my brother said that to me.

  • It depends on if one was abused or not to take this to be a great movie. Most of it was, except for Mr. Potter's rather cruel comment, and he is just like my brother.

I used to have nightmares with Mr. Potter in them, and they were not pretty at all.......and I still don't know why Mr. Potter said that to George Bailey - nor do I unserstand why my brother did to me what he had done.

  • Christmastime had its ups and downs when I was a kid.......ups when my older brother went to bed, and out for walks, and the downs when he took on the mean, abusive Mr. Potter.

I was lacerated, scarred, and no amount of help will ever heal my wounds and scars from what my brother did, and Mr. Potter's worth more dead than alive remark.

  • Growing up, I felt like Mary did at the beginning of this film - frightened, and upset. I felt like George Bailey - almost giving in to suicide, and my older brother was nothing more than Mr. Potter.

Why did Mr. Potter say that to George Bailey - and it is the same thing what my brother told me, and he told me that I was better off dead. What a cruel thing to say to another human being.

  • How could anyone abuse a child, and tell them that they are worth more dead than alive? Just like George Bailey, I too, was nearly driven to suicide.

I got help, but I still burst into tears when Mr. Potter comes on, and he gives me buckling knees, clammy temperature, sweat, and a stomachache, feeling of pissing in my pants, hysterical laughter.......I can't help it.

Mr. Potter and my brother are one and the same.

  • Those who are victims of any type of abuse suffer from what is called P.T.S.D., which is shortened for Post - Traumatic - Stress - Disorder. I was told that I was worth more dead than alive.

Mr. Potter is reminiscent of my brother who molested me when I was growing up, and unfortunately, we had this film when I was a kid, being abused.

  • The abuse is over, but that remark was really out of range - and this is a cruel thing to say to another human being - especially a child.

I just cry and get upset, and try to plug out my ears when that scene comes on.......but sooner or later, I will have to force myself to listen to it.

  • Says Mr. Potter to George Bailey: "You're worth more dead than alive."

Now, why did he say this, and it was a rather nasty crack to say. I was told this all of my life, and Mr. Potter frightens the bejesus outta me.

Being abused as a child, I take this to be a nasty remark, and why did he say it, and he meant it. It was really uncalled for.

  • Gun happy America. Ow - he punched me on the jaw... gun out, bang bang bang bang.

  • This is my favorite movie of all time and i could watch it even when it isn't Christmas time. Greatest movie of all time. Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed are amazing.

  • Me too! We watch it every Christmas Eve... it's so amazing.

  • This movie is a part of my life, and Christmastime in my family always includes it. We watch it every Christmas Eve, and my uncle pretty much starts quoting it on Thanksgiving. Seriously, the sound of him saying "George Bailey, you're worth more dead than you are alive!" is as much a part of my holiday as the sound of Christmas songs. I adore this movie. I always will. It makes me so happy. It may be the day after Christmas, but happy holidays anyway :)

  • how come this movie wasnt on at all this christmas?! its not christmas without this film! and Casablanca wasnt on either!!

  • I was wondering why I don't ever see this movie anymore. I'm 29 now and when I was real young I couldn't stand this old black and white movie then I became like a pre-teen or something and totally feel in love with this movie. I'm going to go download it now. God Bless!!!

  • The closing scene of this movie never fails to make me cry. It's got to be the happiest moment in movie history.

  • George Bailey's run through Bedford Falls' main street ... absolute classic

  • Every year, on Christmas, my family and I watch this movie...We love it!

  • This movie gets me in the spirit

  • Spiritualism, belief in fellow man, importance of the family, the emptiness of materialism, and an overall respect for human life. Nope. Don't think Hollywood can make a movie like this anymore.

  • Let's not forget the blessings of the Lord and His servants, as well as the power of heartfelt prayer. Merry Christmas!

  • Amen :)

  • This is one of the best movies ever. Although you may think your life is just horrible , way beyond repair. This proves that life is an amazing thing!!!

  • my favorite part of the whole movie

  • What a great movie this is. Thanks again. :)

  • AMEN!! :-D

  • anyways...this is a great movie...period!

  • Great film

They dont make them like they used to for sure

The communist atheist God hating Hollywood will not allow the youth to see anything unless its sex and violence

    you know it

  • This is the greatest Christmas movie, and one of the greatest movies, of all time. I don't want to see anyone say "A Christmas Story" is better.

  • what a WONDERFUL movie!

  • BULLSHIT!! I believe the ruling socialist media doesn't play this like they used to because it promotes God and a sense of care for your fellow man ... something the puppeteer socialists despise. If the poster was educated he would realize it is the Communists and socialists that have the greedy ruling elite like Mr. Potter. We call them the Lexus Liberals, not much different from the Rockefeller Republicans which essentially are socialists in sheeps clothing.

  • Whatever.

  • Exactly: "whatever" ... go watch John Lennon's "Imagine" video and light up a blunt.

  • Dude, you sound like a 16-year-old kid who just read Howard Zimm's History of the United States. Which is great. Good luck as you develop your awareness. However, eventually, you'll learn to stop seeing everything through a political microscope. Until then, your friends, family, and people on Youtube will just have to put up with you. Alls I'm saying is: don't lose the anger, but put it in perspective. Also: I take offense to your comment.

  • You say "Dude"?..And then try to fit me into one of your neat little stereotype boxes. Next time call me "bro" or "homie" you stupid broad. Read the "About this video" comments made by the poster. In those words you find the "political microscope" I responded to. So, get your head out of your fat ass.

  • .....Hey, Dick Cheney would make a GREAT Mr. Potter if they ever remake this!!!

  • Well said, alienspectre, way to seamlessly integrate the threads!

  • Get a clue! If you'd get educated, you'd learn that the FBI considered IAWL subversive and said director Capra "associated with left-wing groups and, on one other occasion to have made a picture which was decidedly socialist in nature--'Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.'"

  • You have to step back from your stereotypes & linear thinking to see the big picture. How 'bout you actually read the FBI report to understand why the FBI felt the fictional character was represented falsely. But anyhow, the reason and degree that a man affiliates to the right or left is not in dispute here ... what is is the reason that this great movie is no longer played by the liberal media. If this movie was made by leftists, wouldn't they play it? Your linear thinking has got to stop.

  • what are you on about.ruling socialist media? the media is run by capitalists. Mr Potter by the way is a representation of capitalism as opposed to george and bedford falls who represnt socialism to the same degree that monsieur lang and the rest of the courtyard did in la crime de monsieur lang and the evil batala was the monster capitalist. its all about socialism, capra was a populist. besides its a great movie and is on every xmas

  • Ah, so Hollywood and the alphabet media are "capitalists" huh, lol. They're Lexus liberals (greedy socialists) at best. You believe communist (socialist) nations don't have greedy ruling elites? Capra tried to portray Potter as "capitalist"; though reading the FBI findings shows his practices were that of a crook. The fruit of socialism is anti-Christian. What you fail to understand is 1940 American climate was less accepting of socialism. You confuse charity and theft so easily, don't you.

  • Your Americanized television is filtered by your government, why? because of your capitalist corporations who dictate what you can and cannot watch. Dumbass.

Your so-called Lexus Liberals don't exist. There's also no such thing as a greedy socialist...That's an oxymoron.

And read a book, a socialist society doesn't have elite groups. There cannot be an elite group when everyone owns and controls everything. SOCIAL CLASSES DON'T EXIST.

AND STOP CONFUSING SOCIALISM WITH COMMUNISM!

  • I honestly don't need to respond to this, but I will in the hopes of enlightening your pea-sized brain: ALL SOCIALIST/COMMUNIST NATIONS HAVE A CLASS OF RICH RULING ELITES. THEY ALSO HAVE "USEFUL IDIOTS" (google that term) WHO USHER SOCIALIST GOVERNMENTS INTO POWER DUE TO THEIR STUPID, STUPID POLITICAL BLINDNESS.

    GET A JOB!

  • Personal attacks... Very mature.

  • By "personal attacks" are you referring to your entrance into this discussion by calling people "dumbass"? Or was that to only further point out the VERY short-sighted dumbass hypocrisy of people on the left that make it truly too easy to be a conservative.

  • im from texas :)

  • ... and out of left field we have a stereotype comment? Further proof ...

  • I wanna live again!

    Such an awesome movie.

  • Watch the movie... its the greatest movie of all time... and i bet you watch it every Dec for the rest of your life... god bless you

  • never seen this movie what he do to make har scream so much

  • George Bailey was given a chance to see what life would have been like if he'd never been born. Mary (who had been his wife) never married and didn't know who he was. She thought he was some crazy guy calling her his wife.

  • my favorite movie of all time.

  • Hahaaahaaa!

    Merry Xmas!
