42 inch bolt cutters, the chain lying on the ground so ground support, and god knows how long they had to spend hacking at it. Hmm, is it just me or is this not your typical everyday scenario. I want to see them cut the kryptonite chain with a set of normal bolt cutters (or even the 42 inch ones) when the chain is in the air high of the ground.. And from start to finish, not just the end of the cutting...
I filmed the Kryptonite being cut in 14 seconds. The film I made showing how useless most chains actually are was one of the reason ITV made this program.
- "ALL" cables (even the armored ones) only good for looping around your accessories like seat and front wheel
- If you want the chains to be as effective as the u-lock then the chains have to be "at least" twice as heavy (due to it physical geometry of a slotted ring rather than 1 solid formed bar). Good chains are really for motorcyclist as it too heavy for pedal power to carry.
-U-locks can be thick solid bar yet it compact, but not big enough for lamp post even Xena.
No it isn't dumb at all, if someone sets out to steal decent bikes the chances are they will have bolt cutters and probably a van. I've had it happen to me and professional bike thieves are not like chavs off the street, they com equipped.
How good? It depends , if you build a wall around the bike, they still want to find a way to make it explode and get it.
So is it our fault to not lock it properly ? I would like to see if the stealers would do that in Dubai. But then there you go, they will tell you're Nazist if you mention that. How convenient..
MCN conducted a test with similar results over 18 months ago, Sold Secure declined to attend, but instead promised a full investigation after being shown the test results.
To this date none of the chains in question have had their accreditation suspended, in fact they in their total disregard for the public continued to re pass the exact same products the following year, knowing they did not last anywhere near their claimed 5 min attack rating!
Thanks, I won't trust their ratings system again. I cannot understand them not correcting this. This lock is still being sold and advertised as being super tough. I only found this bc someone posted a comment on the web site selling it.
The only reason, Sold Secure use Irwin Record 42 Bolt croppers because of advice from the police. So it's not a question of is the tool used in the real world, but more to the point, why are Sold Secure incapable of using them properly?
Sold Secure GOLD for motorcycles means it has been tested for 5 minutes with Irwin Record 42" bolt croppers and passed. The 3 chains on test costing a total of £320 and all passed by Sold Secure for motorcycle GOLD only lasted 21 seconds with Irwin Records 42" bolt croppers collectively! According to their very own testing standards, this means the 3 approved chains would not even have passed their minimum bronze standard for motorcycles collectively!
If you're looking for a really good lock try an Almax Security Chain - search Google and you will find their website with videos of them cutting various chains from other manufacturers.

I see and that is very effed up, I just don't live in an area where these kind of thieves are.
