Wonderful video. I have always loved Pavarotti. Not only is his voice unbelievable, he is as cute and sexy as he can be. I know people think I'm crazy...but that's how it is. I loved the movie he made....I think I'm the only one who did. LOL . I love him. Rest in Peace, Luciano.
if I could only be in a simple pub with the chieftans or I'm sure they would agree, any band of their ilk,few they may be,to hear Luciono and the other magii make music so sweet,to feel the beat and the tempo, there, what a gift,
I love the chieftains, Snr Pavarotti and this song but to be honest I really can''t see what combining them does - I barely hear the chieftains influence in the music and I can't see how it influences Snr Pavarotti's interpretation -so in short , why bother ?
apologies if that sound overly critical but just my opinion.
Many MANY (no, I won't tell you how many) years ago, I knew this song in English, but my aging memory (Okay, throw another many in there someplace) has betrayed me and I can't remember the translation anymore, but is about as great sung in English as it is in classic Italian. I remember it as being very upbeat and funny and full of joy. Anyone out there have the translation, that would be willing to post it here? Thank you so much!
@pylgrym Thanks for your help. I finally tracked down an English translation of the original Neopolitan language version and it was in no way similar to the English lyrics that had been originally (In grade school music class!) presented to me as a translation. Though still lovely, the English lyrics are more pure fun to sing. Still, the joyous tone of the song in either language is totally uplifting! Again, thanks for your help, friend.
@mommamackie i learned the words in grade school too, but on the playground.
As I remember the song translates into.....rub it, bend it, bang it against the wall! stroke it, broke it, who are we going to call? your wife has life, she´s oh so young she´s going to want it allllll..... Christopher Colombus what are we going to do?
The orchestra was clearly not as tight as it could've been. Whether Pavarotti is the best or not, I'm going to remain neutral on this subject, because anyone can agree it was an outstanding vocal performance.
its for a good cause. and combining different style of music is genius . make music accessible for everybody. its about the feeling... not how they want to look.. enjoy ... and get into the spirit of it....
Better than my hero Pavorotti? Ok back it up my friend and I will think over what you just stated. Pavarotti was so deep and sincere in everything he did and I never heard Jussi so far and brother I just happen to be middle aged at this point in time. Then again my own hero Pavorotti as well as your Jussi might be getting buried in the past man. Would like to hear your Jussi Bjorling before I too am buried in the past so send something foreward shall you?
God, how can one not love Pavarotti and the achievments he made. Wish I could have seen him live in my lifetime but fate is a little too hard to anticipate as I thought he'd still be alive today sadly. Still he was the BEST and God do I miss him.
And why does time fly so fast in Italy? Because, every time you turn around, you see A DAY GO! Begore, ha, ha, ha, ha! And what is an astronaut called in Italian? A SPECIMEN! Get it?!
Don't you love 'em? The people who gave the world fast cars, fascism, and big tits! And, they had the bad luck to choose the losing side in both world wars!
what can be said that hasn't been said about one of the greatest tenors of the 20th century and this beautiful italian gem song, Luciano, to my opinion one of the top 6, the others: Björling, Carusso, Lanza, Gigli and Krausss, altjough there are many others also very excellent
ill probably get a lot of minisis for saying this but although Pavarotti is much better opera singer then Bocelli, Bocelli's version is by far my favorite.
You get -100000000000!!!! Just kidding ahmad123987, Music is a personal pleasure. Although I don't agree with you, in the end it doesn't matter it's all about the ear of the listener. What is important is that music is to be enjoyed.
i agree, accept about the first part of ur comment, hope that eather way, u listen to Bocelli's version too, mabe then ull change ur mind. Pavarotti remains the better opera singer but i thing Bocelli's voice works very well with songs from napoli like this.
I have listened to Bocellis version. I listened to it before my 1st comment. My preference is Pavarotti. That is me their are no rights and wrongs when the arts are involved. Their are many songs I like that only Bocelli version sounds best, but for me this one goes to Il Maestro. I enjoy Bocelli best in duets his voice always make the song seem more classical. And again this is my ear, your ear says something different, both are excellent tenor. Dont get me wrong I wish I had a voice like Bocelli
You are worthy!! Your comments regarding which versions of which songs you like and by whom, like any art, is your opinion, your mood....at the moment of hearing. Surely, Bocelli does what he does well, and although I feel he would not be able to do everything Pavarotti does, neither could Pavarotti do all Bocelli does. Bocelli does a great "Senza Catene" which, if LP did, would be for me, odd. Bocelli has a talent for taking a song from any genre & doing it well. Up to beholder, like beauty,

I also know that because they are playing classical music they want to look classical. Classical music is one of high class.

@borg1228 its not because its clasical music its called respect, respect for their environment and Luciano.
