  • Rights of Spring & Embrace= Fugazi. Remain vigulant. I don't mind control.

  • More bands should be this awesome live.

  • when did these guys brake up

  • Such a great song. Thank you for posting. I've been listening to this song nonstop for a while.

  • emo before it was bastardized by hot topic and scene kids. good shit.

  • emo more like gay ass band

  • thanks for sharing this. its amazing

  • No emo poser knows anything about this.

  • holy. shit. i don't think i've ever had goosebumps for almost 8 straight minutes before watching this video...

  • is this at the 9:30 club in dc?

  • yes. the old one.

  • this is probably by far my favorite Rites song.

  • REAL EMO!

I love these guys so much!

  • ROS are definatly a few years ahead of their time.

  • wow, that guys actually pretty ripped

  • that guy is Guy

  • there is a lot of hair on that stage huh? i saw so many great shows at that 930 club including bad brains

  • The version that appears on the compilation album clocks in at 7:37 and its fucking ear-shredding!

What can I say, one of the finest bands that ever walked this earth.

  • the version of end on end of mine is really short, and this one is long, why??!!!

  • James, when they played this song live it was usually much longer than the album version from my recollection. Meghan

  • thanks man!!!!!!!!

wish they had recorded this long version instead, it's freakin awesome!

  • yeah this band rocks but u suck

  • hahaha

  • joke lang hahah :D

  • kay they are the fathers of emocore... but who are the ''sons'' of emocore nowadays?

  • that shit is wacked - sounds like some guitars smashing against eachother and an old gay guy screaming in the front..

  • That's kinda the point. It wouldn't be good if everyone "got" it.

  • Im guessing these guys have been to a few punk shows

    Bad Brains?

    Black Flag?

  • AND IT BEGINS...

    -_-

    lmao

  • 3:34- did the guitar strings strike his face when he yanked them? is that y he put his hands over his face? or is he just being stupid and pointlessly emotional

  • Lol. Does it make a difference either way? Or are you just being ignorant and pointlessly annoying?

  • ahahhahaha :D

  • sheesh wut a showoffy dickhead, somebody needs to swipe that dude's stash. he's had quite enough

  • patience and for want of are their best songs.

  • this is post hardcore?

  • emo. 1985.

  • this band isnt emo

  • you're an idiot, these guys are basically the first 'emo' and the fathers of what 'emo' is today, you're most likely thinking of stupid scene

  • yeah, there are scene emos, but still today there are real emos fighting for good mucis and fighting for respect.

these guys need more credit for what they have spawned and created... good music

  • This band started emo, you dick.

  • wtf dude these guys are emo. they made everything there is today, and tnk god for fugazi to

  • wasnt around then to see such good music lol

  • what do you think is their best song?

  • I like the long version of End On End, For Want Of, Deeper Than Inside and Drink Deep.

  • i saw them at the 9:30 in 1986, on my first night as a gwu freshman. love(d) them!

  • what do you think is their best song?

  • i think the only way you could get this experience somewhat is watching fugazi doing glueman

  • love ros

  • oh shit..i didnt nkow they had videos of them in such good quality...if anyone has any shows of the DC band. "Hated" then let me know. they were around the same time.

  • Jimmy, unfortunately I don't have any videos of Hated. I saw them several times and never got any footage of them. Dan was in a college class of mine, he's the most laid back, sincere guy you'd ever want to know.

  • oh my fucking god...your soo lucky. my friend told me he only had heard of one video, and the guy from deadwood devine(heard of him) i forget his name, but he had one. yea ive listened to ida for that reason that dan is in the band. thanks for the info

  • ahhh! sweet! the early stages of screamo...

  • hmm more emo than screamo,

  • rites of spring never associated themselves with emo and actually discredited it, but its really how you take their music. trying to call out who was the godfather of emo is a pretty fuckin hard thing to do, but to some extent, this is pretty much where emo started up.

rites of spring, still most definitely one of the greatest bands ever, emo or not.

  • even the sex pistols said "no" when somebody asked if their music was "punk"...

so... rites are great band... and maybe they are not emo but.. it started up with this DC scene... i agree with you..

  • Behold the garden of emo. Take that, 10 Sugar Charlie.

  • The best emo band of all time!

Rites of spring, is the father of the real EMOcore!!!

  • i hear that!

  • He sounds a little Bon Scottish.

  • I like his voice :) And his hairstyle :D

  • best DC band that was ever formed. Maybe best punk band ever, they originated the emo genre.

  • um, dont EVER use any of the DC bands to describe the birth of emo. shouldnt even be in the same sentence. go cry somewhere else with eyeliner.

  • they did invent at least post hardcore punk. It was the real punk with emotion

  • but he's right...

  • Rites Of Spring will ALWAYS be associated with Emo as long as the term is still around. The name was first attributed to them so whether you like it or not, the two will never be separate. Plus Emo should be about the music not the fashion right? I don't see any eyeliner on Guy Picciotto.

  • Or Chuck Ragen, for that matter.

  • Angry young men incorporated.

  • rites of spring = god

  • do they have video of the last show?

  • By the way the "Dance of Days" book sucks cat ass, and is filled with total lies and untruths and distortions.

  • This was taped by the 9:30 people who used to sit in those towers and it was shown over the TV screens all over the club. Not many of these videos were "kept" and many of them were erased the following night. One wonders about the millions of historic shows that were destroyed so it's good we have this one.

  • Was actually just reading about this gig in the "Dance of Days" book, about the DC scene. Class! I love this youtube business!

  • one of the best songs ever! i finally get to see what they (and embrace) sounds live!

  • did you tape these videos?

  • ok, posted a REALLY bad copy of persistent vision for you cattellar. if you know the song well enough, you can follow along. i don't know of any other copies of them doing this song live. i never saw them do it live personally.

  • let me see what i can find!

  • Awesome.. now If I could just watch Persistent Vision... that would be great.
