  • This version is sexy? This is a very sad version, its the final statement of a great musician: Soon there will be nothing left of me, nothing left to realease....

  • Love this version, best track. I just listened to the remix, its alright, but the more bowie has to do with the birth of a song the more I like, I don't like listing to songs that feature other "artists" its like watering down a masterpiece. Love.

  • FEED ME NO LIES!!!!!

i don't know about you, I don't know about you...

  • bowie was gone after this song, sad moment ...great song !!! Bowie is god !

  • @DANTECHPFN Yeah, you get the meaning... Note his last words: Soon there will be nothing left of me, nothing left to release....

  • I love, LOVE, love this man!!! He's a f*cking genius, this song is sooooo smooth. Nobody can do it like Bowie can!

  • Remix all the way, feels more epic but this would fit so well in the background of some period piece movie, would have fit perfectly in Sucker Punch

  • great kick drum sound

  • David, où es-tu?

  • iv lived through punk, grebo, acid house, all brilliant, but bowie has always been played throughout, outstayed em all.

  • ha, i used to way prefer the remix, but I am so turned around, I love this version so much more now

  • If you ask me, the 50's to the 80's were the golden age of music. After that it just went downhill.

  • @Whitedusk225 So what's your opinion on this piece? Because it's not written in that particular period but it's not pop, is it? Please answer this, I'm really interested. :) I mostly feel the same way about music (I'm currently only listening to the 60's radio on Spotify), but I find this song rather interesting!

  • Sorry, I didn't want to be a know-it-all ;-). Anyway, I personally prefer this version to the "remix".

  • I love this song. David Bowie managed to turn a rock song into a jazzy song. That's great !

  • @mydreamiscalledbowie This version was there first... Actually Bowie worked on this song since 1993 until he finally released it in 2003.

  • @ezaube1030 Oh ! I didn't know ! :S Thanks for correcting me :D

  • Original is good...but as a Maynard die hard fan...I like the new version...its more James Bond-ish

  • I love this guy david

  • this song has some of the best lyrics ever.

  • I like both versions because David Bowie's voice is that awesome regardless of whats playing in the background. As a matter of fact this song would be awesome with no background music at all, just a`capella. IMO of course.

  • I don't mind the remixed version of this song, but I think this version is better, this is definitely my favorite song off of Realty. I hope Bowie releases new material one of these days :).

  • Still think the original is the best. The new one starts to go out of context with the whole NIN style. Makes the song more of an emo goth poem than the downtown city lament that I think Bowie had intended. I also think the original is a better vampire soundtrack song. Just my opinions.

  • My dad use to play this song in his car when I was like 8, lol. For years I had forgotten about it, then today it randomly got stuck in my head. O.O

  • @anewbie6 Omg me too!!! Haha (this is Rachael btw Scott lol) I saw yourcomment and was like 'MY dad used to play this song in the car all the time too!! then I looked at the name and I was like hahaha

  • fantastic!

... this is nearly 20 years old but sounds great :)

positively new compared to some of the well known classics!

Happy Birthday tomorrow Mr Bowie- you still kick derriere

  • The more I listen to his later period songs such as this the more classic it feels. I did not like it at first but like others, over time I grew to love it. As a fan since the 70's I have to say his later output is, for me, developing into work of the same statue as his 70's period. I remember, only a miniority liked Low, Heroes, Lodger when they came out.

Only in hindsight were they correctly held in such high esteem.....the same I believe will duly apply to Outside, Heathen & Reality!

  • @hotbuzzard Interesting comment, I feel the same about most of his post-1990 output. Though I still find Reality not quite up there. But Heathen is in my top-5 all-time Bowie albums.

  • Just heard this 4 the first time last night .... no words for this. Love it.

  • I kinda thought this was very underrated when it came out. So chill.

  • Me gusta mas esta version!

Quedaria genial esta cancion de fondo en una velada romantica.

  • the first Bowie song Ive like sing Let's Dance Days and now I just can't stop listening to it!

  • @mjwally62 Very strange that you could not find anything else worthwhile between these two songs.

  • I need a martini! This is awesome.

  • Wow, my new favorite lounge singer! :-)

  • LOVE THIS ORIGINAL VERSION.,.

but I also love the revised one with Maynard.,. <3

  • life it self

  • I like Bowie and I like disco!! XD

  • Who is he singing this song to? Who is the "you" in the lyrics? ( "you promised me that the ending would be clear" etc)

  • i want to know... .does "disco king" stands for cocaine?

  • @David050688 This song is about his life/carrer as an artist, the disco king is himself as the artist, there's a dialogue between the person and the artist

  • I tried to play that marvelous song with just one guitar, comments appreciated , check my channel ! :-)

  • Affascinante l'arrangiamento. Valido il testo. Parlo alle tue note, Bowie. Che serenità dà la tua classe.

  • INtersting history of the song. I assumed it was recent - at the time Reality came out. I stand corrected.

  • This song is probably the best on David Bowie's "Reality" album. I don't like comparing songs to older Bowie songs. I just like to enjoy his music. :)

  • WHAT ABOUT THE WORDS?

    aren'they wonderful?they are...

anyway, i prefer the lohner mix too even if i'm a bowie super fan. this doesn't meen i'm deaf.

..close me in the dark let me disappear,

soon there will be nothing left with me

    nothing left to release me.

DANCE DANCE DANCE TO THE FIRE,

    tell me no lies,

    i don't know about u,

  • Xx444nathan444xX you are a complete musical degenerate and invalid. claiming what you just claimed, means that your spiritual inspiration and creativity is as rich as a shit can be rich in vitamins

  • Oh shut up, let him make an opinion. If you disagree, articulate it in a way that doesn't make you seem like such a tool.

  • :-) Why should I shut up? I just pointed out the obvious.

  • Oh. Ok.

  • The tempo feels so damn off and strange in this version.

His voice doesn't seem to fit this as much as the lohner mix.

And the piano sounds so empty.

  • I agree the Lohner mix puts more definition to his voice and makes you happier

  • @Xx444nathan444xX Try to listen to this song for what it is and not compare to the other version, but if you like and prefer all the mixing and fixing of the sound I respect your opinion, I think this is supposed to be a sad song since it's about his life as an artist.

  • @hybrid8253 Right on, I agree with you - It's similar to comparing a cover to the actual, or comparing an artist's new work to their old. If you take everything for what it is, you have a more genuine opinion. :D And that's what I should do more often, haha.

  • im sorry the remix sounds soooo much better

  • Wow, this is so much better than the new version. Miles more class. The new one is kinda kitsch. This is sexy.

When did this come out exactly?

  • This was released on Bowie's Reality album back in 2003.

  • wasnt it recorded in 93?

  • Bowie made an attempt at recording it back in '93, then again in '97 for Earthling, and then finally released a polished version of the song back in 2003 on Reality. I can sort of imagine this song being on Black Tie White Noise, but not so much on Earthling.

  • @mobile513 2003 :D

  • @mobile513 '03.

  • @mobile513 Agreed, way better than the remix. Yet, all the Hot Topic wannabe goth children will disagree with the sexy, jazzy sound of that piano.

  • @alewis18 I think we can like the original, remix, both or neither without having to stereotype and look down on people with a different opinion. The difference between saying "I like the original better" and "the original is better" is the difference between an opinion and an opinion masquerading as fact.

  • @alewis18 I'm not anything close to a Hot Topic wannabe goth child, and I like the remix better than this. However, I also love this version as well. They are both powerful, sexy, smooth and velvety as hell in their own way. Tsk tsk to you stereotyping.

  • @mobile513 Came out in 2003.

  • this song makes me feel so melancholy. its one of my favorites. i love this song

  • beautiful! scott walker like

  • IN MY OPINION,

This is definitely the best David Bowie 'piano' song since 'Aladdin Sane'. Not quite as good, but still pretty great.

  • well noticed, it annoys me as new albums by classic artists tend to be ditched no matter how good the songs are becuase the artists in question are no longer in there canonical period i.e no longer big.... but yes, if this song was released in the aladdin days it would be considered one of those "great album tracks" - a fair few artists who have come out there hayday put out some seriously good shit (like morrisseys new album/depeche modes new album for instance), but again, no one apprectiates

  • Maybe. The Motel from Outside is pretty damn good too, but is maybe less of a "piano song".

  • simply AMAZING...

  • Definatly one of the best voices in 'Rock'n Roll"

I can see why They got Maynard to do a duet....Is this version actuely the orgional...It dosen't seem to fit aswell as the other one heard...I thought the guitar work in the other version sounded very bowieish

  • This song is my anthem. So many times I've spent a night staring at Chicago from the top of the city. In the Fall watching the darkness and the lights, writing poetry and thinking of broken love.

  • my anthem too.

  • aw shucks, for a second I was hoping this was the (as yet unheard) original demo of this song that was reportedly written around the time of the Earthling sessions

  • No, it was written for Black Tie White Noise. I even remember it being mentioned in Rolling Stone in an interview with Bowie prior to its release, so appaerently it was removed from that album at the last moment. It was also re-recorded for Earthling I think. Would have been very interesting hearing all three versions.

  • mannn i always thought the lohner remix was the real one. it kind of seems to fit with the lyrics more, this seems a bit more upbeat but idk. either way david bowie is awesome

  • RE PeleH20.

Think what david saying in this one is he not sure where his life would have been if he wasnt into the music thing looks back and regrets

  • WOW! Up until now, I only knew the Lohner remix version (which is also wonderful in its own style). This is an AMAZING piece of music. David Bowie blows my freaking mind.

  • this disc was availible in 5.1 dolby surround sound . i suggest you get a chance a listen to it . so depressing it lifts me up

  • "This is seriously my most favourite from him. I just love the beat and lyrics!"

  • the last track from his last album =[

  • the best song from reality and one of his 100 best.

  • a lot of people dont like this song but you have to appricate the music behind it. I just love it, love it, love it. No idea what he is on about as usual but it doesnt stop me from loving this guy. Come on Bowie, new album!

  • hehe i like the one from the Underworld soundtrack :P

  • really?"emovampiregirl666" prefers the vampire movie soundtrack version?

    seriously though that version rules.

  • @EmoVampireGirl666 Not surprising from someone named Emo Vampire Girl 666. Just sayin'.

  • @alewis18 haha- cant argue with that sort

  • JUST AMAZING...

  • Marry me David!

  • Great video, love the song...

    Thanks Bowie.

Why does he seem so...devilish in the pictures?

I know that some of them that weren't devilish were probably to impose the fact he tried being gay to get attention when he wasn't...

  • and we have to thank frusciante's guitar for that ;))

  • excellent song. I can't help but notice the strong peter gabriel production sound, evokes Blue Nile stuff. Was he involved?

  • I want this album, after I heard New killer star I had to have it.

  • oh yes it is a very very good album =]

  • Better then Scary Monsters?

  • I don't think any thing is as good as Scary Monsters. Mabe Diamond Dogs.

  • vox is very evocative of nina simone...mesmerizing song/writing:)

  • remix is better..

  • I made this...

  • Does anyone have the original 2 versions of Bring me the disco king, I've always wanted to hear them.

  • I'd be happy to send them, if you're still looking.

    Get in touch :-)
