For the record, I'm responding to all the comments to clarify why this had to be done and because we have a repeat of this event coming up in a couple of months.
Ultimately...we don't have enough information here to really criticize. The pizza and drinks could have gone to a homeless shelter...and they could have thrown a massive birthday for an elderly woman who ALSO wanted to abolish ASUN, who just happened to like miniature horses...so basically what I'm saying is that this is hilarious, and I approve.
@thewritingwriterof89 The ASUN will not allow Tier 1 money to be used in that fashion. Charitable events are Tier 3 and get $500 per year. You are not allowed to directly donate the $500 to any cause.
I'm behind the general idea of stopping the ASUN giving money to any club who asks for it, but ACTUALLY GOING THROUGH WITH THIS is *EPIC* fail! You made your point when you got the APPROVAL to get all this crap. You didn't need to actually USE the money. Because guess what! YOU GUYS ARE THE PEOPLE YOU HATE. YOU are stealing OUR money, you idiots!
They money would have then be used for more events like Howl at the Moon, which cost $8000 and had only about 20 attendees, as the scheduled it for the week of finals. This event actually went back to students of UNR.
The idea's clever, but I still think what you're doing is sad and irresponsible (yeah yeah, I know, doing it to demonstrate irresponsiblity, blah blah, I still think you could have found a better, cheaper way to do this that doesn't to further contribute to the problem).
However.
I do love the random pictures of Demi at the end there. :)
@shanthegeek Not allowed as per ASUN funding rules. Must be used on pointless shit like our event and ASUN programming events and greek organization redundant clubs (i.e. sigma nu has 4 ASUN clubs that they use to siphon money)
Good Lord, this is beyond awesome. Way to stick it to wasteful government. We need more students with brass like yours. If I could sign your petition I would. Also, very funny.
If student had any idea how the rest of their fees(taxes) were being spent...
@gimly1987 Now I don't offer this as a criticism, but as a thought exercise and something to consider: you're taking offense to that fact that money is being wasted, right?
@DrNate89 no one....hmmm... I haven't been to an event yet where "no one" was in the room. Using absolutes like "no one" is not an effective way of making your point.
Do people truly benefit from ASUN events? Does the average student who might attend one ASUN event get his $100 per semester out of it? Would ASUN events be sustainable if all students went to them and tried to get their money's worth?
Better, did I claim that other events have no attendees? I clearly didn't, the absolutes argument is a strawman and is clearly a heuristic that you took to heart without contemplating the actual meaning or proper application.
@DrNate89 Very verbose of you....bravo. Unfortunately, no programs would be sustainable if every individual received his or her entire contribution....ASUN helps fund clubs which put on seminars that aid students on their paths to pursuing careers....You're right. Higher education has no place for such waste. I can't imagine what benefit would be obtained. I'm not saying there isn't waste, but there are people who benefits. Thank you for pointing out the semantics.
I fully support those clubs, but they do not use the large amounts of wasteful ASUN funding. Even then, I still don't think it's necessary to subsidize those clubs with the funding of all students, even considering the fact that I would benefit from these funds. (I'm the president of one student academic/professional society and a very active member in another.) My argument is not about whether a minority of students gain some benefit from ASUN funds. ...cont.

@DrNate89 All governments and government programs have a minority that benefits from the unfair distribution of the majority's capital.
