  • He was just pissed off about Evan. The actor in the music video symbolizes Evan, and what the wanted to do to her.

  • i think the song is awesome with or without the video, either way its a great song. yeah the video wasnt as elaborate or exciting as his usual work..but to me this showed a softer more emotional manson, which i thought was pretty bold..even if he was acting. we've never seen him look so sorrowful have we?? so it was nice to see that aswell. Marilyn Manson is still the most intelligent man in the room..i dont think that will ever change, whether or not ppl think his videos are going downhill :)

  • this video is about his pain and what she did to her. and then changes to the horrible scenes that he played over and over in his because of what she did to him. if you really dedicated years of your life to him you'd have a better understanding of him and the song. the entire album is about him picking himself up from the mess that she made of him. just read the title for gods sake. "The high end of low" he's finally found i high point in the grave that she threw him in.

  • @danielslashmio looks like he broke more then her heart shaped glasses

  • i laughed when i saw him beating that chick i dont know why but it was just funny

  • Alright well I pretty much look up every Manson video around. qwhen I saw that video I was actually a little bored and zoned out. I love the song, I did even before I watched the video, but the end just left me puzzled.

  • you have a soda tab on your ear

  • I look at Marilyn Manson as a fool now. The reason why is because, he can't perform live anymore, and when he stopped after The Golden Age Of Grotesque, he should have stayed retired from music, he would have been more of a legend. Now he just tries to make dark love songs and sook.

  • Many people don't want to display themselves crying or upset. I think he wanted to show Evan how upset he was... and he tried to the best of his ability. Perhaps it seemed like he was acting... but I'm sure if he was indeed sincere, it was hard for him to show.

I must say that this song (story) cannot be fully understood alone. You must hear the stories preceding and succeeding this one. & I don't think anyone will ever hear all of them. It's art, so I guess it's open for interpretation.

  • I interpret the words as: he wants a new beginning, but there can never be one from what damage that has already occured. So he fantasizes about killing her, b/c it hurts that he can't have what he wants with her anymore. But even killing her (metaphorically), the pain will still be there. The video, although bland, I think is wonderful. It's an emotionally painful song for him, & perhaps he knew no other way to approach it.

  • I disagree. I think the video symbolizes his anger towards his relationship with Evan. The words basically say that no matter how much he hates her, that the relationship ended, or how much he fantasizes about crushing her skull, making her pay for the emotional pain she caused him, he will always feel pain inside.

  • I loved the video actually.. But I do agree with what you said

He should have just made the video you know not 90% of the video just sitting there!

  • I don't feel like reading all the comments, but from what I have read recently this video is in reference to a dream he had killing Evan.

  • fucking retard......

  • sorry just wanted to say you're a good-looking guy!

  • lol thank god your own camera cut you off to save you from humiliating yourself further. sorry that you can't understand art

  • I agree with your comments. Beautiful song, not so great video, and I think it lacks the charisma of his past work such as that seen in coma white, tourniquet, etc. Also, I hate to admit it, but I think you're correct in saying his overall character is continually going south to where he isn't the man he used to be. He's a great intelligent person and just because he's getting older I don't think that should change. I hope these "changes" aren't permanent as he is one of my favorite artists too

  • I thought you brought up quite a few good points about the video without sounding like an asshole about it. It is a beautiful song, and I do not totally hate the video...but...after about three minutes of the curtain shot it was like "please do something". Well, and then he did something and it failed to shock or move me. I have to admit, though, if I were that hurt over a failed relationship I would love to symbolically murder them for it! Just needed better acting and more substance. ♥

  • wanna know what happend he got fucked over. marilyn manson is fucking amazing. that video made me sobb. he changed. so much and he still needs his devoting fans

  • I hated that video too. The song was pretty good too, and it almost ruined it for me. Its hard to listen to that song without laughing now.

  • I totally agree with you dude but still High End Of Low does have some pretty awesome tracks like I wanna kill you like they do in the movies, into the fire, 15 and pretty as a ($) I read something recently about Mansons 2010 album and he said it will be "romantic" geez Manson dont ya think you've dealt with romace enough in your past two albums move on to something new

  • In my opinion, I love the song. Very emotional and deep

(like all of his other songs. The Reflecting God, In The Shadow Of The Valley Of Death etc..)

I could tell that he was trying to express his sorrow. But he didn't have to beat the fuck out of a Evan Rachel Wood look alike, or just have a close up of his face crying for 4 minutes

I think that it should have included the band members.

I hope that the next video he makes his WAY more improved than this one.

(sorry for all of the parts)

  • Marilyn Manson and Evan Rachel Wood were otgether for some time, and they made a music video together called Heart Shaped Glasses. At the end of the video, they drove off of a cliff and Marilyn Manson says :"Together as one," and Evan replies "Against all others."

Those lyrics are used in the main chorus of the song

The women that Marilyn Manson is beating the fuck out o fin the video resembles her (Blonde Hair, Pale Skin, etc)

To me, he was trying to express his sorrow towards the break-up.

  • I have the same opinion as you do. This man that has made so many msatpeices (videos) made a video like this?

However i think that I have a pretty good idea for what the video is about.

  • "together as one, against all others" If you watch the Heart Shaped Glasses video at the end when they are in the car he says, "together as one" and Evan adds, "against all others." Then they break up. Now he is bitter and angry at the fact that none of his relationships ever last until death do us part in the nursing home. The Heart Shaped Glasses knife seems to show up here even though we don't see it. The girl could also represent his ex wife as well. Ah, well Happy Holidays peeps!

  • I think the video is very good.

We should see Manson as a true artist, not just some singer... You don't need to compare this video to older ones.

If you don't understand, it is your problem. ART cannot remain the same! It has always new shapes and concepts, it's expanding. Manson feels things different, it is something natural.

You do not stand true to Manson with this child thinking.

Maybe he expresses now more maturity in his art, and that scares you ALL.

    Sometimes hate is not enough...

  • Marilyn Manson was pulled up of a big depression by Evan Rachel Wood. The way she got his attention was by saying she would die for him and that he could kill her if he wanted to. When this offer was given Manson felt power again and got back to himself. This video is the ressult of Heart Shaped Glasses, The "Eat Me, Drink Me" album and the now dead relationship he had with Evan Rachel Wood. It is about passion, dark romance and running to the edge of the world in general. I love the video. ART!

  • honestly, being a huge marylin manson fan, this video bored the shit out of my in the first part but then in the last few minutes it really pissed me off. he used to be such an amazing man with smart amazing things to say, thing that im sure help so many people make it through hard timesm but wtf..now i hear he slept with under age girls after some concert, hes taking a huge amount of drugs and now..now hes basically promoting violence through his video, so many people look up to him. why?

  • Meh, you just hate him, cause you found out he's a rockstar.

  • Having been a fan since his 1st CD in '94, my impression of late is that he just isn't into it as much. Because he's older? Getting bored with everything? I don't know. His older shows were just so full of passion and anger put into his art form. While I really LOVE this song, I'm not really going to make too much of the video. I will always be a die hard Manson fan, no matter if he gets worse or better over time. I teach his "messages" to my kids, and apply them to my own life as well.

  • To be honest I 100% agree with you. I also have listened to Manson for around 4 years and have been in awe of such music videos as the ones you mentioned (also the nobodies, one of his best in terms of imagery and metaphors and such). Anyway, I too was very disappointed and can only think that the video is about his fantasy of killing Evan. You probably know, thats what "I Want To Kill You Like They Do In The Movies" is about, but thats what I think the video is about. No class. Keep up the vids

  • He's gone to shit.

I really hope he goes back to the Manson that we all know and love.

I can't see that happening though.

Seeing as he's over 40 now....

  • Running to the Edge of the World is metaphorical. The beginning is Marilyn Manson crying, being weak and vulnerable, gripping onto something that cannot grip him back. Near the end he kills Kelly, who symbolises Evan.

That's how he actually was; when Evan left his life, he was a vulnerable mess, aimlessly cutting himself, getting fucked up on drugs and alcohol, but after a period of time, he's gotten over her; she's now dead to him.

  • Wonderful explanation. A lot of people have said " the girl is Evan" but they never went into as much detail as you.

    Thanks!

  • i like his song running to the egde of the world. its a beautiful song to sing to ur loved one. but the vid sucks. his shoukders and face looked ok but when u stare at it 4 four min it gets boring

and whipping the crap out of that girl??? urgh! after all the beautiful vids he made he makes shit like this. oh listen there's a poser out there pretending to be MM or GF. but idk people are beliving thats him. its not possibal

    what do u think?

  • @SurrealisticSanity Actually the beginning is him full of remorse and memories after he killed the b.

  • i miss his creativity. what was the point of the video? i have to admit- i think he looks good. but really? sitting there crying for 3 minutes with a curtain? is he turning into chris crocker? idk. i miss the old manson. i know hes getting old- but still. hes losing it :(

and maybe the woman beating part is suppost to represent his hatred for evan or dita? lol i have NO idea.

  • k i totally agree with u on the whining and complainin part, it just totally made that vid boring. and yah i don't see what happened to him either. his music is starting to suck and now his videos too. i really dunno what the hell he is tryin to say in the video. it was horrible =(

  • i used to write all the time, it was my coping mechanism, so to speak. after writing for the longest time, it stopped bringing me comfort it once used too. everything i wrote came out jumbled- nothing was as good as my earlier stuff.. music is manson's passion-his way of venting. i wonder if maybe, after so long, the way he expresses himself through music, just isn't cutting it for him. it might not be making him happy anymore, like the way writing wasn't making me any happier.
  • I agree with you. The song itself was gorgeous but the video seemed to be rushed and not thought out. In the video, his attempt to look even slightly sad just made him look bored out of his fucking mind. The only connection to anything that I can see through this video is maybe he feels that his Ex's decision to leave him will end up causing her downfall? I have no idea. He has really let himself go lately and has just been producing songs and videos to make a some money, not to make art.

  • i agree with u Matt i want the manson we all know and love back i was disappointed in the video i love the song its wonderful but the video...no i didnt think it was smart for Marylin Manson to spit on his fans well he had the swine flu either :/ as u said in the other vid

  • im not really goin aqgainst u but i kinda got this outa the video, my english teacher from 7th grade is frends with john 5 and met manson several times and sed that all he would ever say to him was things like fuck you, he seemed really negative but my english teacher sorta knew he wasnt like this at heart. ive herd a lot of stories about the band from him that most people wouldnt know because its not in the media or anything my interpretation is he does things hes ashamed of and isalone in end

  • im right there with ya.

  • yea i agree man the music video has no symbolism at all and its not as good as some of his older awesome ones even tho its a great song the music video is very poorly put together

  • i find the video beautiful. very different from the ones u named but for me it's shockingly beautiful.

and i couldn't agree with the acting part you mentioned... maybe you're still a little mad at him so you see it in a different perpective even more.

  • To me, it seems like the drugs are starting to take their tall on our dear King of Fuck. I mean, he has obviously had a hard time and because of that he might want some stronger drugs. Not that I have experience, but I think the stronger the drug, the harder to get. So if all this time the only thing he has been thinking of is how to get some more drugs, then of course he would be aggressive and not thinking straight. That would explain the weird behavior.

    Sorry for all the text

  • I have to disagree Matt, I absolutely love the video! It just speaks to me i geuss.

  • I thought it looked pretty real - he was crying.. you could see a tear running down his cheek. And I personally think that this is a phase in his life and its his mind and hes giving us some insight into it.. Also, violence? seriously? he has toned WAYY down on the violence. this is nothing compared to when he started.

  • I didn't get much out of the video, quite frankly to me it was just bad, and I think he's only a shell of his former-self now-a-days, corrupted by fame or money prehaps, or just drugs have made him dum, dunno, he still makes good music, but as a person hes gone truly downhill... hopefully he will someday remember who he was.

But thats just my opinion which equals shit in this world.

PS. wouldn't be surprised if that woman he beat and killed really was murdered =/

  • I completely agree with you. I was so shocked when I saw that video, I really did cry. I pray the other videos he has unreleased for "I Wanna Kill You Like They do in the Movies" and "Pretty as a Swastika" are better. I want the old Manson back.. v.v

By the way, completely unrelated, is your earring one of those pop tops from a soda can? :D

  • i actually love the music video... its like a confession, but its not his best, so i agree with you on that part

  • well hopefully someone read and understood my comments...

  • yeah it really sucked. same with armagoddamnmotherfuckinggeddon

he's also not as good live anymore. i saw him a few months ago and i enjoyed the concert but looking at his older concerts on youtube he had so much energy that's completely gone now. i understand he's 40 years old now but still.

i think in the video that girl was supposed to represent his ex evan rachel wood. that doesn't make it any more intelligent though, just a sucky chiche metaphor of how he hates his ex girlfriend. maybe...

  • ps death is the theme, maybe, it all depends, and you dont "see" it, you "hear" via the news... you know, so i can see where the whole "death is real" comes from, however manson wouldnt make this song/video just for that, we should all know that, so something about death maybe? we dont seek death we seek destruction? she didnt only die she got destroyed? lol well i think he made it so its entirely up to you, thats probably why you dont get it... you're used to people making decisions for you...

  • I thought your comment was perfect right up to the back handed compliment. I'm perfectly capable of making my own conclusions. I like your interpretation of the video, I must have missed a few things here as I've only seen the video twice. Thanks for your explanation. Next time don't be a dick about it?

  • its all good... srry i left soooo many comments, its haard for me to explain stuff without making it long, and i like my explanations to not look like gibberish. yeah at first i was pissed at it (my computer wouldnt play sound so i went online on my wii and could only see a tiny version) i thought it was just him and then deaath of a girl. and srry for soundin like a dick, i was tryin to be but not as much as other people, but it wasn't meant to be hateful

  • it's alright! I love hearing from some one with such great points and clear passion for the topic

I look forward to hearing from you more on this stuff

  • sweet, ill try to comment more on some new vids that i might agree or disagree about.

  • the word "end" obviously means 2 things, either the world ends (your at the edge), or the world will literally end. dont take the video as just a scene dude, open your eyes and try to find somethin interesting about it... thats probably what manson intended it to be, interpretaion as anything, so go wild with it. though i will agree, i did expect more out of it too... but i think as i keep watching it that i keep finding it more interesting.

  • as many things, like it could be his imagination cuz hes so pissed at that one chick he just wants to fuck her up! yet it goes back to reality and hes crying cuz she's gone. and if the whole thing is taaken literal, then the camera shot is like the notebook, aand when he says "running to the edge of the world" it could mean the edge of the world for her, where shes gone and done for. i think there are many ways to interpret this song, since the line "dont know if the world will end today" [next]

  • well im not one to debate with people who dont wanna... but i think that bad acting was actually kinda good, cuz hell some people wont exactly be fckin cryin like a mother fucker. just sayin dude, it may look like bad acting, but as a matter of fact, thats what i looked like last year. its supposed to be one full shot cuz hes literally talking through the camera, hes not hiding it, thats why theres red dot blinking in the background, theres a mirror. then the next shot can be interpreted [next]

  • so I'm watching the video for the first time right now...and the first thing that popped into my head when I saw him with the veil/curtain thingy was Chris Crocker.

I don't know, it's just how he's playing with it as he's 'being upset' and complaining reminds me of Crocker.

It doesn't even look like he's trying to act like he's beating the girl.

idk, good song, bad video :/

  • What i got from the lyrics is that we all get to the point where we want to self destruct inside.. there is always a new beginning we just have to decide weather we want to change and all people in the end no matter how hard they try never change...thats what i got from it as for the video i didnt think it was that great but it wasnt that terrible ....

  • I'm not making excuses for him anymore. If he doesn't see anything wrong with himself then I guess he knows what he's doing. I just don't want to stop listening to his music just because of one bad album. In my opinion, Eat Me, Drink Me beat the hell out of this record. I thought it was amazing. This new album brought nothing new and just referenced old eras which lacked SO MUCH creativity it's ridiculous. I want him to be the person he used to be, but I don't think that's going to happen at all

  • I think he needs to cut out all this Emo shit!!

  • Emo never existed. It never will. It's some dumbass stereotype that idiots made up to label kids that have bitchin' hair. :)

  • I wasn't comenting on his style (Which i happen to love)

I was comenting on the fact that his last 2 albums have been wayy too depressing (Emo=Depression look it up)

  • i agree voodoo girl... however, the high end of low is like... well... changing... idk how to explain. but there are a lot of non depressing songs on there, IWTKYLTDITM is sadistic, thats just an example... its not emo, and i thought it was depressive at first until i payed a little closer attention. FUCK, anyways, what i was getting at, by track 15 he's totally different. he created the album cuz there wasnt a more fucked up story than his etc.

  • I agree with you 100%. I have no idea what he has become. His career is just going DOWN as time progresses. The song is really good, but the video is just a disaster. There's no effort put into it at all. He basically doesn't even try anymore. It's sad to see him just go out like this. He said the new album would sound like ACSS, but it doesn't WHATSOEVER. I'm really disappointed with his new image and I wish he would change and fast. Nonetheless, I'm still have faith that he'll change.

  • it's hard to have faith in someone who seems so faithless.........

  • Let us face it............Manson is autonomously lost........he is trapped within his own self torture and there is not much left to do to be able to save him he needs to save himself but I doubt he will.....I hold nothing against him I just think he has become fake like all the others......and I do not find beauty in that at all.....non of us should.

  • I agree that the video is not as good as his others but I doubt it's because he's losing his creativity. I think it's probably because they don't have the money to make the types of videos that they used to.

As for Trent's quote I don't see how Manson changed to turn himself into a clown.

As for the meaning of the video, Manson's videos have usually been open to interpretation. To me the girl being beat up represents the last lines of the song. No matter how much you want to escape, you can't.

  • Alot of the video looks almost as if he filmed it in his tour bus just for shits and giggles while on tour. the even the last part of the video could have been in a hotel room or something

  • its a reference to hitchcocks movie - psycho

  • You're right. There isn't much to it. But he does cry. No idea hun. It's still a good song none-the-less.

  • i heard the song and i thought it was beautiful. I cried, ill admit. and the video to me, i enjoyed it. I believe Manson said in an interview that the beating was part of a sexual thing..but im not sure. i kind of think maybe manson was trying to look like he was acting, but i could be wrong. He is unpredictable, and that may not always be a good thing. The video was enjoyable, but may not have matched the song. I pictured something completely different, more artistic and visual. oh well.

  • I really like the song, but the video is very different from what I expected, I think it could have been done a lot better.

  • To be honest, I'm not much of a Manson fan, like, at all. But I have to admit that that was a nice song.

  • I was expecting something way better than what it was. I thought it would have a lot more detail and things like that such as his previous videos. However, looking back at it, I think maybe the point of this video is to show that he's kind of been drained of who he was. Because, that's really what it looks like. And the girl, she reminds me of Evan. I seriously think he's just completely lost himself though. It seems to me like he needs to take a step back and really figure out who he is.

  • Oooh by the way are u exited about phantasmagoria?? i wanna hear ur thoughts on that

  • I totally agree with everything you said man when i watched it i was like :S lol good review man 5 stars:)

  • I enjoyed the video. It's not really his best, but I respect the way he wants to explore different stuff like that, then its alright with me. I made a fan video to it btw mat. i tried to make it kinda a little better than the music video is, but i guess you can never beat manson i guess.
