This is such a powerful film. I am an occupier and am willing to go through great lengths for the right cause. The difference is is that #occupy is WORLDWIDE and the people are united, here this small group was able to, over a period of time, really influence people and instigate fear in those who deserved to be scared. No one is likable in this film, not even the "good guys," but that shouldn't dissuade anyone who is curious. It has a strange, essential quality in the "Age of Terror." Still, anyone who watches this and says "Yeah, fuck those imperialist assholes!" is a fucking idiot. The RFA did a sloppy job dealing with this "war" of theirs. With that aside, the film itself was good, but the communist sympathizer ideas in it were a bit of an annoyance.

It shows the political grudges that motivated them, their personal grudges when their comrades started to get shot or arrested, the reasoning behind the state's response (another great role by Bruno Ganz), their pointless ideological arguments. It shows them as people - some naive and idealistic, some genuinely angry, some just psychos.

This trailer doesn't really do the film any justice. It kind of makes it look like another mindless light-hearted film that fetishizes the counter-cultures of the mid/ late 20th centuries, when in fact, it gives a much more serious, and nuanced view of its subject. Then again, that might just be my own interpretation of the film.

As an American who lived in Germany on a US Air Froce Base, I remember my father telling me to never advertise I was an American when I went off base because of the RAF. Although I cannot sympathize with their politics or their tactics, this movie and a couple of books I read, gave me an interesting perspective on a terrorist group that targeted Americans in Europe. All in all, damn good movie.

Excellent film, shit trailer. Sensationalist crap with lots of explosions.
The film doesn't romanticise the RAF, it tries to explain them. It shows the political grudges that motivated them, their personal grudges when their comrades started to get shot or arrested, the reasoning behind the state's response (another great role by Bruno Ganz), their pointless ideological arguments. It shows them as people - some naive and idealistic, some genuinely angry, some just psychos.

This trailer doesn't really do the film any justice. It kind of makes it look like another mindless light-hearted film that fetishizes the counter-cultures of the mid/ late 20th centuries, when in fact, it gives a much more serious, and nuanced view of its subject. Then again, that might just be my own interpretation of the film.

You know I live in Romania, a country that was "blessed" with communism for 45 years. I was 7 in 89 when the people changed the system, so I cannot say anything about freedom of speech or civil liberties. But I do remember freezing in my parents apartment, the long ques for basic commodities(milk, meat, butter, bread) and the power being turned off every night.

All I am saying is that I try to be objective as opposed to subjective when I put up such comments. And yes, I agree that communism is bloody and murderous, but whenever I analyze communism I try to do it by economic means, since I am an economist, because that is what is immediately measurable and visible to everyone.

They manged to eradicate the intellectuals back in the 50s, so there was no one left to stir up peoples minds. A valid question has been asked after 1989 in Romania by some people. Did we overthrow the regime because there was no freedom or no blue jeans. Unfortunately I think most people went for the latter.

As an American who lived in Germany on a US Air Froce Base, I remember my father telling me to never advertise I was an American when I went off base because of the RAF. Although I cannot sympathize with their politics or their tactics, this movie and a couple of books I read, gave me an interesting perspective on a terrorist group that targeted Americans in Europe. All in all, damn good movie.

No matter the ideology, nothing can justify wanton killing. Killing for politics is terrorism. I should watch this movie sometime but judging by this trailer this movie seems to glorify terrorism. Some of you may think "freedom fighting" is cool but youll have a different opinion when a loved one dies in a terrorist attack.

@Exverlobter this movie is brilliant because it gives an unbiased opinion. it shows them as human beings and you feel for them because they had nice ideology, at the same time you kinda hate them aswell because they had very cruel methods.
what i love about this film is that these people live the dream. they smoke weed, drop acid, have rampant sex with each other. steal cars, fire shots out their cars. have loads of fun. they have loads of freedom.

@xBreakThisShitDowNx Cops are mostly working class folk who want to fight antisocial behaviour in their communities, while having a stable public sector job. That's why young cops are the most annoying, they think they're on a mission to change the world, and it's usually much easier to talk to older more cynical cops. Life is hard and sometimes a graphic designer will take a job at a right-wing newspaper, for example, to feed his/her children. Death sentence for them?

I studied in Germany around the time these events ocurred. I own this DVD and enjoyed it and this trailer, both of which I consider well done (am also reading Stefan Aust's book, which I am hardly able to put down).
