Hi there, and thanks for posting this. A celiac cure may be HERE!
There may actually be a cure for celiac disease (other than the gluten free diet or celiac vaccine) that actually works and treats the condition. Here's the topic on the matter -- Jason is answering any questions you may have...
Dear Phil, thank you soooo much for all of your videos. Enormous inspiration and hope-giving boost that is to many parents around the globe. Thank you.
I wish I lived in a country where I could find a DAN doctor. My son is 3,5 and clearly on autistic spectrum but nobody "over here" does a thing. I am pushing for his evaluation but so far no luck. I basicaly live on Internet searching for all possible information how to help him on my own. Sometimes it is hard but thank God for Internet.
just a question, how did you know that its only Casein and gluten isnt being digested in the stomach out of all the thousthands of minerals, vitamins that come from food
we are trying to start the gfcf diet, my son has been drinking lactaid milk, after he got off of formula, which was also lactose free, it gave him both diaherria and constipation. Is Lactaid milk ok on this diet? We called lactaid and they said it was both gluten and casein free. I just want to double check. thanks your videos are very helpful.
I am starting to implement the GFCF diet. I'm reading Lisa Lewis' first book (Special Diets). I've also called a "local" DAN! Dr. (who is 3 hours away). Is it outrageous to charge $600 for the initial visit or am I just crazy? Can I do this WITHOUT a doctor? Isn't there someone out there who won't charge me my life savings (which isn't enough to cover the initial visit to a DAN! Dr) and help me do this nutritionally? I'm a bit frustrated. Any advice would be awesome.
No, you don't have to see a DAN doctor to implement the diet. My son was diagnosed in September, we began the diet in October, taking dairy out first the gluten. He went from completely nonverbal and anti social to babling and social. I sat and watched him chasing my nephew laughing. This diet WORKS!
I have gone back and forth with the gfcf diet for my two sons. Both of my son's 7 and 5 years old have high functioning autism. My oldest is higher functioning than his brother, and I am confident he will lead a independent life. Yet, he still has issues. My youngest I am more concerned about for his future. He had early intervention with therapies, but only eliminating most dairy products. I know that the diet is most effective between the ages of 2-5. I am looking for some good advice.
i'm so glad i found your videos again! i used to watch you a few years back and you answered my questions very well! thanks a lot for this video i'm subscribing immediately!
This diet is great. Also, food dyes should be avoided and organic food is better. Even chemicals in cleaning supplies can harm more sensitive individuals.
The very best thing to do is to google "DAN! Doctor" in your area/state. These Dr.s are dedicated to the recovery of autism through diet and nutrition. They will do an allergy test on your child to find out exactly what foods they may be sensitive to and then they will help you and guide you through the process of starting the change. It can be done on your own, but having help will make it so much easier!! Good luck!
I found the DAN! Dr, and have an appointment in the next 6-8 weeks. I have already switched things over like, cleaning products, cook-wear, laundry detergent, took him off dairy, and we have already seen a big difference in him! his teacher's and the speech therapist note a BIG difference! It's already looking very positive!
My younger brother was diagnosed with autism. He dosen't like milk. When ever he asks for cereal, he always stops me before adding the milk. Can it be he just doesn't like milk ( I don't like it it gives me the runs ) or can it be something else?
im so sorry i never replied to this comment! yes, many adults with autism have seen dramatic effects from the removal of wheat and/or dairy from their diets. DRAMATIC!
I'm favoriting your diet vids to my new kimmykrocker channel...I think it should be a prerequisite for anyone starting the diet to see Phil Commander's videos!! ;) Thanks for everything...keep up the great work!
Great explanation. Our son is on a casien limited diet. He also is sensitive to soy and applejuice. Really, it wasn't that hard and it makes a big difference for him. It's very cool because my son knows his own limits and actually tells US how much is too much because he can feel what his body is doing. That was proof enough for us and totally worth it.
For health class I'm doing a paper on...surprise! Autism. My section is treatment, I may use this in it...if you have any other suggestions to put in it please let me know, of course I'm doing ABA therapy, some GFCF, and I'm not sure what else. Let me know suggestions :-)
you go phil...exactly if YOU ARENT WILLING TO DO DIET YOU ARENT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING FOR YOUR KIDS...THESE KIDS ARE WALKING AROUND SMACKED OUT OF THEIR MINDS!!!!
I do alot for my daughter Jade, and resent what you have stated. Jade eats gluten, lots and lots of gluten. Jade also can read. Jade can also type bunches of words. Jade is only 39 months old. Jade is autistic.
What works for one, does not work for all. Educate yourself.
Besides, have you ever tried to eat gluten free bread?
He clearly states what works for one may not work for another. Perhaps you would see better reading and more words from Jade with the diet. Yes gluten free bread is gross, but you have to be more creative than just replacing breads.
My comment was not to Phil, it was directed at Cinderella, who states that if we aren't willing to do the diet, we aren't willing to do anything. That's a pretty harsh statement.
Thanks for your comments aware4autism! i think what Cinderella meant though is if you arent willing to 'try' the diet instead of 'do'. you did try the diet and thats all anyone could ask of you. if it didnt work for you then you knew you had to look down different avenues. i think that cinderella would applaud you for your trying it and when she says 'these kids' she doesnt mean 'all of these kids'. her comments werent meant to be all inclusive.
Thanks Phil. I am really tired of being in the middle, and getting attacked from both sides. I am ready to delete my account. I get criticized for giving Jade supplements, I get critisized for not doing the diet.
None of these kids are the same, and they don't need the same "protocol"- if you will.
Jade is an individual, even if she is autistic, or have we all forgotten that?
oh god aware4autism, dont delete your account! i love your vids! Jade is a darling. I think that these comments were the result of a misunderstanding...thats all. You dont have to justify what youre doing for your daughter, you are on top of it and Jade will be fine. YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE MY SUPPORT!!! anyone w/any sense knows youre a great parent and jade is lucky! (so are you)
We have tried the diet, and the results were not worth the nightmare the diet caused.
Besides, Jade uses LDN (Low dose naltrexone) as an immune modulater. Consequently, naltrexone is an opiate blocker, so gluten does not give her the opiate effect.
It is great that Jade can read, but more reading is NOT what we want for her! We just want her to effectively comunicate her thoughts and needs. Besides, when she was on the diet, we didn't see anything drastic enough to suffer through the diet.
Sure the reading and typing is neat, but we don't want her life to turn into a "parlor trick". We just want a happy little girl- and a life without pizza or Eggos is just not a happy one.
i agree, and you are the one i always think of when talking about this topic...i just didnt remember hardly anything about that vid since i filmed it and watched it once or twice over six months ago. tell your story though!
Removing milk from our son's diet was a turning point for us. The change in his behavior was noticeable. There are alternatives to the opioid peptides ("leaky gut") theory. Some speculate that the reason that the gluten-free, casein-free diet appears to reduce autistic symptoms is because it causes a reduction in the abnormal levels of serotonin seen in some children with autism.
Dude! I'm sitting on the can thinking how badly I need a diet and lo and behold, 2 new videos on my subscriber list about dieting! Horray for diets! BTW, I did well removing glutens and can eat lots of casein. Some days, I can have both. I need to away from certain grains and large legumes. Allergies to wheat, coconut/milk, dried peas, peanuts that are stale, almonds/milk, rice/milk etc. Rice has gluten sometimes that I can't take without gas upsets.
Thank you for the video, it was really informative. I have found that slightly changing Colins diet has really helped that cloudy head thing he gets in. BUT not by much only slightly...
I am a little hurt that you didn't wear the sweat shirt for MY video. >:o(
hi phil,hi people, enjoyed your video.i know for myself,i whould wait 15-20 minutes befour drinking liquids after a meal.liquids dilute the stomach acids, thus not digesting food properally. i also was suppossed to avoid chocolate, caffine, doritos. this was when i was way young.i dont have any kids but diet is way important
The gfcf diet is harmless, but don't think that your child will become non-autistic as a result of the diet. My son did well removing casein from his diet, but he's still very autistic. Starving Brains is written by a "sex therapist" I believe. I suggest everyone look at the MET gene study in autistic children. Phil, does that sweat top stand up on its own when you take it off? Damn, put a battery in that smoke detector!
LOL, I'm about ready to turn the jacket in...its had better days. So are you saying that a sex therapist cant research nutrition? Are you a professional scientist? you do videos about the science of autism. When you cant attack the science you attack the scientist. If you could attack her science you would, but you cant because she's right. Being 'autistic' or being 'non-autistic' is all about definitions of autism. its semantics.
