Anyone offended by this amazing tribute to the brony community deserves to be offended. Derpy is the very symbol of the fandom. She's been with us Bronies since the beginning. She was just a background pony with funny eyes, but we gave her a family, a job, and a love of muffins. She's like a stray dog that we took in and made into a beloved pet. Putting her in an episode was the ultimate acknowledgement of this most unlikely fandom.

I never thought I'd ever hear the internet term "Derp" officially used in a TV show, least of all a 'MY Little Pony' cartoon. I was surprised to hear "Noob" and "Ownage" come into use in 'Transformers: Animated' and even more so when 'The Powerpuff Girls' spoofed the Dramatic Chipmunk, but despite all the appearances of Derpy before this episodes, I'm sure I can safely say none of us were expecting the whole Derpy Hooves internet following to be fully embraced like this. *Sigh* This show rocks.

@talziedash most people watching the show are bronies/pegasisters like us, So thats like, 98.9% percent of the people. Hasbro does not care about the 2.1% of mothers who give a shat about the word "Derpy". And that person writing to hasbro...im gonna...*sorry keeping this kid friendly*.Hasbro knows about Bronies and pegasisters and there not going to cancel the show or something because a paranoid, overprotective mom is worried about their 2 year old hearing the word "Derpy"

I'm just worried about what the over protective parents will think about them using the word "derpy" in a kids show. I heard that one parent is even writing to Hasbro about it. The show could be in a lot of trouble now. *sigh* I still love Derpy though.

@talziedash Don't worry about it. There's always going to be someone complaining about something. I'm sure there were a good handful of over-sensitive people who complained about one thing or another last season, too. Give then juggernaut FiM has become I highly, highly doubt a few complainers are going to change things. Keep Calm and Continue Derping.

@talziedash Just checked it out -- can't believe how much hate this has gotten. I think people are thinking she's supposed to be mentally retarded and that "derpy" is somehow related to mental retardedness. I'm fairly certain the word derpy is just connotated with momentary stupidity, I.E. "Oops, I derped and forgot about such and such."
Though I will admit she sounds like she at least has a speech impediment of some sort.

@BizzarreProductions The amount of ignorance in this comment is astounding. 1) "retard" is a completely outdated and offensive term, don't. 2) "herp derp" and its predecessor "hurr durr" ARE, in fact, mocking of people with disabilities, most commonly learning or developmental. 3) the concept of stupidity is also ableist, as it equates intelligence with worth. 4) Her design (unfocused eyes), her mannerisms and speech patterns: uh, definitely a disability stereotype. :|

@Pheonee 3) The concept of stupidity is a fine concept - it does equate intelligence with both worth and usefulness. Can a smart person do more than a stupid person? Absolutely. Does that make it okay to assume they are less of a person? No. 4) My grandmother has unfocused eyes and pronounces things wrong now and then. Are you calling her disabled? For she is not. I know several people with speech patterns similar or "worse" than Derpy's, and I'm positive they're more intelligent than you.

I never thought I'd ever hear the internet term "Derp" officially used in a TV show, least of all a 'MY Little Pony' cartoon. I was surprised to hear "Noob" and "Ownage" come into use in 'Transformers: Animated' and even more so when 'The Powerpuff Girls' spoofed the Dramatic Chipmunk, but despite all the appearances of Derpy before this episodes, I'm sure I can safely say none of us were expecting the whole Derpy Hooves internet following to be fully embraced like this. *Sigh* This show rocks.
