Remember Live Aid vividly, EVERYONE had it on in their front rooms blaring out through the windows. I can remember half way through the day getting on my bmx and riding to the shop to get something and it was like a ghost town because everyone was watching it. Cars were amazing - i would almost go as far to say second only to Queen on the day.
0:56 gives me chills and I'm a guy so no homo but that vocal trill sounds like Orbison ..what a set of pipes Orr was gifted with..truly a missed gift to music in our lifetime
On this day so special and so sad. I think a lot about Ben . 11 years you're gone, I do not believe it. Rest in peace my sweet Benjamin. I love you forever.
@blayeto dont forget the CARS formed in 1976 and were performing before the 80s so the CARS aren't just an 80s band. Just What I Needed was released in 1978. their second album Candyo released in 1979.
Funny how you can remember some things. I remember - clearly - watching this live that day and thinking I needed a pair of cool red sunglasses like Ben was wearing. Never found them.
One of my favourite love songs ever.Remember the firs time I hear it at a discoteque in Dublin, when I was just fiftheen years old, and never here it before in Spain, my own country. It was like "What a nice song"who they are? the cars? Imposible to be the same people that sang hello again.
I remember watching Live Aid and thinking 'corrrr!!!!' when Ben was on, Love the songs, he had an amazing voice!!... Such ahame he is no longer with us!!...RIP Gorgeous!! x
Now I know why Ben is grinning through this song. The drum machine is going haywire through the entire song in front of billions of people watching this.
@glelrod1 While the song "Drive"was, they had technical problem too. If you watch again, you will see Greg and Ben more times look at direction of drum. "Just what I needed" performance was super. It was more better, than studio version. This is my opinion only...
@Slingudwig - sorry, but in a 2001 interview, they were all laughing about the drum machine going wacky during "Drive" at LiveAid. The beginning, especially, completely goofed-up.
nothing say's the 80's like this song - many of us have happy memories of hearing this song. RIP Ben Orr...a wonderful performance at the height of your power.
Damn I hate You Tube adverts. Not only annoying, but direspectful to the video being shown. Stuff companies trying to advertise while I am trying to watch music. RIP Ben Orr.
Amazing those idiots ask a band member how he felt about the concert as a fan! Then ask him for a reaction to the Led Zepplin reunion? Why didn't they ask him to comment on the jerk interviewers short shorts?
Ben, you were the driving force behind the cars. What a voice.............. The Cars played Thurs. 5-12-2011 at the Palladium in Hollywood, check out footage of this concert at 955 KLOS website...... Ben, may you fine peace and continue to do what you do best in the Heavens above. Thanks for the great music!
ya know, Martha and Mark sure do NOT know how to interview someone! They don't even know what are appropriate questions..... My gosh!! Benjamin Orr is sitting there and they are asking what he thinks of Zepplin and how he rates the event????? I could have asked much better questions!!:)
I was married for 30 years when my husband divorced me and left me penniless. I remember this song during a turbulent time in our marriage. I also knew Ben Orr before he was famous which used to tick my ex off so bad...I would play this song all the time. It reminded me what was going on in my life at that time. I listen and have flashbacks but it's all good! I loved Ben, such a gentle and sweet man. Very humble and oh so HOT!!
He died but....he won't be forgotten ever in my mind!!! What a handsome man and one of the the best musician of the 80th...Love the time of inocence!!
Hey, a new Cars video with two of my fav songs and one of the very few interviews of Benjamin Orr you'll ever find. I read he really disliked interviews, felt uncomfortable, but OWNED the stage! Thanks for this.
