@mcap52 Technically pure Nephilim were wiped out in the flood, that geneology was dead then. But apparently someone on the ark contained some of it. The first tribe of giants after the flood was called the Rephaim, they were for the most part dissipated, possibly driven out and killed by the Caananites. The remnants of the Rephaim were integrated into Caananite society. After this they were renamed I think by appearance, which would have been closer to the tribes they were integrated into....

Webster's 1828 (best Dictionary for Bible study) says "The proper sense is to strike, and as beating was an early mode of killing, this word, like smite, came to signify to kill. It seems to be formed on the root of lay; as we say to lay on." Clearly David struck him twice, then beheaded
