It is sad but such methods are vastly common. I once heard the story of a police interogation resulting in a boy confessing that her murdered his little sister. The interogation lasted 10 hours, with things like 'confess and we will be more lenient' said, at the end the boy said something like 'I took a knife got into the room and stabbed her'. i agree.... I have insomnia and I worked a job with crazy hours... i went 3 nights with no sleep and another 7 nights with 2 hours of sleep per day (not generally at night or at regular times)... it makes you very sick and causes you to hear and see things that aren't real. It literally makes you feel like you are losing your mind and it takes a long time for your body to recover (even from such a short duration, as i had)

Whether or not it causes permanent damage is debatable and the extent of damage (if any) can differ between individuals. Whether or not it is perfectly humane is, in my opinion, not even something to be worried about.
