  • I thought it was awesome. Good tactics by Taraje.

  • You know I see tons of complaints about the American and his tactics. Well, I noticed the Japanese fighter would back off continually when it hit the mat? Is he from the Kodokan? Don't they do a lot of ground techniques? He came close with the arm bar but had TONS of opportunities to go for the choke.

  • You dont fight a traditional style against a fighter like Hiroaka. Taraje did exactly what he shouldve against that particular opponent. Ive trained with him (and Darnell) they have great technique!

  • @sinister0077 If you trained with Dynell than you know what he is capable of. Him and Taraje have had some good matchs against each other. Taraje is the 2x Olympian , but I was just stating an opinion. Dynell Pinder would have been a solid for the states.

  • Could have at least gotten the names of *both* athletes right...

  • @starrettcitykid what are you talking about???? he beat the number one seed in the first round! (even though he doesn't deserved the win, but that is a whole other discussion)

Hiroaka was the clear favourite and in fantasy judo, he had nearly 35% percent of the votes, due to his fantastic 2008 season.

technique is the not taraje's force, so he use tactics to defeat a judoka which is superior in every other way!!!!

  • @MrKidaff CORRECT!

  • @MrKidaff Taraje fought a great match indeed. I take nothing away from him ! He is a great athlete, but I just never thought he showed variety of technique. I dont care what you say, good JUDO/ technique wins matchs.

  • Taraje is a good dude and friend, but on the judo side of things never really thought that highly of him as a judoka. I always thought he lacked technique. ~Dynell Pinder from the USA would have represented the states way better in the -60KG weight Class. For anybody who knows USA JUDO, knows who Dynell Pinder is.

  • hiroaka was misjuded by that stupid referee! OMG the american shoud've been penalized with about 10 shidos! he allways did fake sumi-gaeshi atacks! ridicilous

  • Terrible Match. Standup!!!

  • @philthsta

    How about some ground work?

  • I understand being on the ground puts you in danger of being pinned, but why don't they attempt a choke from behind when the other fighter is on the ground on all fours like the turtle guard from jiu-jitsu?

  • @NeenjaMonkey because judo rules are stupid and dont give you enough time to pull off a submission-unless you are in like a dominant position like kata or kesa gatame but then most guys just pin you there for the 20 secs or so and get the win- very rare amount of submissions or newaza in general in competitive judo unless its straight newaza comp

  • Almost an armbar.

  • Im an American Judo fighter, and this American representative is an embarrassment, end of discussion.

  • Do you see how easily Hiroaki made it in for that last stand morote gari! Shit I see why they took out leg grabs shit like tarage was doing.

  • lol judokas can't even defend a simple double leg, what a joke grappling art.

  • @elbowtko it's not that judokas can't defend a double,he probably didn't expect it.it's not really used (at least to my knowledge or from my experience) in tournament judo. i don't have a extensive knowledge of judo or at least as much as i would like but with that said,it's not the art but the artist when it comes to marital arts

  • @elbowtko you are stupid they don't use double legs that often in judo because this technique isn't that effective in judo competition

  • This is why leg grabs were abolished... This guy goes below the line of negative judo, why didn't the loser get penalized?

  • Why does the referee seperate the fighter when they're on the ground, wasn't a judoka can win by submission?

  • @emanresu81 in judo your not given alot of time on the ground

  • @emanresu81 In judo, if your not active or making progress on the ground they will stand you up.

  • fucking stupid ref should have shidoed white at least twice in the last minute of the match. he was clearly stalling and not commiting to his attacks

  • Hiraoka is way better now he's like ranked #2 in the world he would never lose like this again. Taraje is retired btw.

  • the american guy does such a bad judo;i can't believe he won

  • @alessandromane95 Wow. The Olympics must have fooled everyone all of these years if bad athletes can win...

  • I can't complain, he's better than any of us will ever be.

  • After watching Taraje its no wonder this kid hasn't won any international titles. Yea he might have gotten out of the U.S. but he's lucky to have been on 2 Olympic teams, He should have really only been on one if that.

  • @702decatur but he still beat the japanese who is currently ranked #2.. so are you jealous? does not matter the way he won.. a win is a win.

  • @702decatur Yep, you sound like a true hater. This guy is a two time olympian and better than you ever were, ever will be and probably better than any of your kids will be or anyone else in your family. Judo is about strategy. He played it safe and played his game and won.

  • @bank80 Yet another fool who has no idea what he is talking about. I'm not fromt he USA but I do have more international medals than this kid and I did it in a much harder weight class.

I have a Olympic Silver medalist (88) in my family so do you have any more feet you wanna put in your mouth?

There are lots of Olympians in Judo that have no chance in placing. It doesn't mean that they totally suck but my opinion about this kids game is right on.

  • @bank80 Not a hater just more experienced and more decorated a player than you or this kid. I have more international medals than him and you. Also I have a Olympic silver medalist (88) in my family. I'm not hating just point out some facts about this kids game or lack of one.

So if you want to talk on a subject you have no clue about then please let us know your credentials.

  • @702decatur OK, you posted two different comments and both said the same message. Shows how much of a retard you are. No one cares about your inbred cousin that won a silver medal in the special olympics. Anyone can be an expert and a champion online. Post your weight division and international tournaments you won. Better yet post one of your championship videos on youtube. Taraje competed against one of the best in the world, executed his strategy and won.

  • @bank80 "Competed" against one of the best in the world does not mean he is of the same caliber. Why don't you post your credentials and lets see how good you are. You are just another big mouth American that has no clue about Judo. You think one high light video on youtube says volumes about someones game.

  • @702decatur Yeah, he didn't only "compete" against him, he beat him. Funny that your are calling me the "big mouth", when you are the one clicking on this video just to criticize. I watched the video to learn from two great judo players. I don't have to post credentials, because I'm not the one criticizing like you are, dumb ass. Taraje has a youtube page that shows a lot of his matches, so I've seen many of his tournaments. So take the foot out of your mouth, loser.

  • I guess it doesn't matter that he threw the Japanese dude for IPPON twice!! And literally dominated him. And Taraje's arsenal isn't limited. It just didn't need to be expanded or illustrated for this fight. The Japanese player is the one with the limited arsenal. Which is why you didn't see him attack LOL

  • Murray skill not bad,,, but to normal to get him under

  • dont take anything away from Neaza judo, but the IJF ahve realy tied (pardon the pun) the hands of Judo groundwork alot man

however throwing is a big thing in JUDO aswell as Newaza

  • you can so tell hes coached by radi ferguson

pre dominate on the mortoe gari,

    good judoka limited arsenal

  • Damn waht a bad match

  • This match just shows how effective Morote Gari can be to show power over your opponet. The IJF should allow more time for Newaza to allow us to show our groundwork and give time to work for a Submisson.

Besides who needs an Ippon when you can get a TapouT

  • Hi, I tend to agree with what you said, but keep in mind you are in error when it comes to "tapout"...

You still need ippon as a tapout IS an ippon...

Anyway I think there were some errors on this match, Taraje should have been penalized, the Japanese sode-tsuri-komi-goshi should have been scored (it was at least as convoluted as Taraje's uncontrolled morote-gari). Well, we all agree that newaza should be allowed more time anyway, what else matters?

  • This match represents *EVERTHING* that is wrong with competitive Judo in the lightweight division. It is matches like this that practically forced the IJF's hand to change the rules to prevent the B.S. tactics used by the American. It's a good thing that most of the time the ones that win big tournaments actually go for the ippon.

  • @droman30 I disagree. Judo is judo, even with the double leg takedowns. There are different styles of judo. IJF did nothing but water down the Judo as a Martial Art. This is the same thing they did with Newaza and you would be suprised to see how bad some judo player ground games are.

  • @Shaunton1 You sound like a BJJ guy who probably doesn't know enough about both sports.

Judo guys can get away with poor gound games but their ground games are not as horrible as BJJ guys top game.

  • @702decatur Actually Im a Judo/Jujitsu fighter. I compete in judo, sport jujitsu, submission grappling and MMA. I know about the grappling styles of jujitsu, judo, and BJJ. IJF rules takes away from the over-all advantage of judo. Dont get me wrong there are some judo guy that are beasts on the mat but the rules favor stand up judo. There are guy tachi waza men in BJJ but matches are set up primarily for ground matches. Judo needs to stress ground and stand up equally.

  • Comment removed

  • @droman30 iunno what you're talking about specifically

but the second throw by the american is the one that's bugging me... a lot

  • @droman30 If you are talking about leg grabs, I agree 100%.

  • @WenzelCORP Yes, I was talking about all the single leg attacks that you used to typically see at this level. I've been watching the lightweight divisions all year since the changes and they are much better to watch. The quality of the matches aesthetically have been much improved. Prior to the rule changes I couldn't stand to watch one of these typical 60kg or 66kg matches because most of them looked like rubbish.
