  • at 4:32 the drummer looks like he's gonna throw-up, but the drum solo is bad-ass

  • i think around 6 minutes they shoul dhave gone back to the opening riff

  • In 83 or so I had the great opportunity to have roadied for Edgar. It was an awesome time, I'll never forget it. It was near Cincinnati at a biker rally at a small race track, on the 4th of July. It rained like hell during this song as an on-core! The plastic roof over the stage was installed wrong and they got VERY wet, and kept on playing, and not a soul left the crowd. Excellent musician and person to have met.

    Rock on Edgar!

  • Holy retro-yummy.

    That's an awesome video!

  • Great group! RIP Dan Hartman

  • ITS ALIVE!!!!!

  • You forgot the MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

  • There is no greater Edgar Winter than Martin Short. Not even edgar Winter is as Edgar Winter as Martin Short is Edgar winter.

  • Edgar Winter rocks. I taught at the University in his hometown of Beaumont, Texas. I sure wish I could have run into him there. I would have loved to meet him.

  • This is the riff you need to learn if you start to play guitar. ;D

  • this is a fucking legendary tune

  • yes and Dan Hartman on bass

  • Awesome!! Is that Rik Derringer on guitar?

  • these guys are obviously several sandwiches short of a picnic...but in a good way...

  • Jimmy Saville was a talented bastard in his heyday.

  • I'll have some of what they're having!! And yes, nice to see that Jimmy was leaving the corpses alone. For a change. Allegedly.

  • LOL!!!... : )

  • This is absolutely one of my fave videos!

Love the Moog synthesizer... Edgar is too cool with all his talents! I love their enthusiasm!

  • Just freeekin GREAT ****** SIX STARS!!

  • 1st off this kicks ass but does anyone els think the drummer( well this guy i wayyy more taltended) but does anybody think he looks like lars ulrich thi guy is a ton better tho

  • who is the bass player?

  • wasn't he really into this!

  • That's Dan Hartman later a sucessful writer/producer. And sadly no longer with us RIP

  • Edgar is one talented dude! And that's an ARP 2600 synth that he's playing. Great jam!

  • I like what he does with it too as far as distortion is concerned!

  • ummm this is frankenstein not "The Old Grey Whistle Test".....

  • they played "Frankenstein" at The old grey whistle test

  • Vikingdale - That isn't Bobby Caldwell playing the drums. It's Chuck Ruff.

  • Wow...

  • Nobody notices Rick Deringer on guitar? This is one of the most rocking performances of a rocking song anyone could want. Edgar and the guys tearing it up!

  • whoa! these men are from another planet... they have to be.....

  • The drummer, Bobby Caldwell, Is awesome. I think he was in captain beyond too. I'm not sure what else he's done.

  • Is that Bobby Caldwell or Chuck Ruff the guy on the inside of "They Only Come Out At Night"?

  • analog synth has got to be an insane instrument to play

  • Would this be Minimoog or a Polymoog?

  • Arp synth

  • That keyboard must weigh as much as a grown man!

  • true dat. i didnt know that chuck ruff was so good, damn good clip.

  • such a kickass intro riff at the begining which could easily get someone into the song

  • BEST SONG EVER!!!!

  • I watch this every morning.

  • To fancylady:that's a synth-keyboard.NOT an 80's "keytar".

  • I always will love this show.

  • I thought he was going to set the thing on fire at 6:30 :)

    Great clip, thanks for posting.

  • "why the hell isn't anyone playing music like this anymore???" - because the average music consumer doesn't appear to have the attention span to listen to this. -- "Great drumming by Chuck Ruff!" but why the bike horn?

  • Wow! Awesome rendition of a great tune. That is one tight live performance!

    Great drumming by Chuck Ruff!

  • These Old Grey Whistle Test clips are a real treasure. In particular, this performance is amazing.

  • He takes a drum solo WHILE a keytar hangs from around his neck.

  • sooooo awesomely pretentious! i love this! what instrument doesn't he play!

  • What you see is what you get.

  • no one can bend pitches on the keyboard like this guy. FRIGGIN AMAZING one of the best performances ever period.

  • Rick Derringer on guitar.

The incomparable Chuck Ruff on drums.

The late Dan Hartman on bass.

  • He's better than Kanny man, you gotta be insane to say he's not better.

Kenny has his little pop ballads, but this man can do anything else.

  • Ronny Montrose on guitar

  • got any of his brother Johnny?

  • Hey, you're right!! Jimmy Saville from Pop Gear!

Is that Rick Derringer on guitar?

  • is it just me or does anyone else think the guy with the keyboard looks like jimmy saville

  • Man, this has to be the best performance EVER on the Old Grey Whistle Test.

  • yeah thats great but so is marcus millers cover of it! check it out!

  • theyre sooo good!

  • he's almost as good as kenny g on the sax.

  • Brilliant. I love this song.

  • LOL fantastic, such wankage, but, you gotta love it

  • Who could accuse progressive rock of pompous excess? Well, I suppose anyone who made it to the keyboard smashing around 06:20 could...

  • How dare you!
