  • Oh Lord Almighty!!!!! This is the most incredible band in the Jazz-Rock history!!!!!!

Randy Brecker, Michael Brecker!!!, and Barry Finnerty togheter!!!!!! The other guys are also GREAT!

  • I think Neil Jason could crack macadamia nuts between his fingers and palm and text 150 words per minute at the same time.

  • I think Neil Jason could crack macadamia nuts between his fingers and palm and text 150 words per minute at the same time.

  • Hey that bassist could be Al DiMeola in disguise? And the drummer is out of the Billy Cobham 'school of drums' academy. Great Track. I have the original album on vinyl in mint condition. Had the pleasure in shaking hands with Randy B at the Jazz Cafe' in London a few years ago during a star studded evening of perfomers.

  • Now THAT'S music!!

  • I usually preferred the studio version with Harvey Mason and Will Lee over the Heavy Metal Be-Bop version, but I admit this version is great, so is this drummer. And of course, Neil Jason is great here.

  • When was this? About 1979?

  • yeah shure ... Corea is ..>>> Richard Morales - Drums

  • It's Chick Corea on drums! :)))))))

  • A shame MB is gone. Thank God for vinyl!

  • Wow - this is great! I love seeing footage from the period in which the music was created - it has a truly fresh character.

    No Michael solo, though :-(

  • richiee morales is a great latin drummer dumb ass hole

  • who the hell is Richard Morales .damn he's good.mean.

  • yeah! he's amazing!

  • Not a name you hear often, but he's great. I'll have to see what he's up to recently. What year is this from ?? Thanks for posting !!

  • I love how both Randy and Michael both come in on the wrong melodic line on the first "B" section, and then Randy turns to Michael and gives him a classic "What the hell was that?" look. Sometimes I like it when monster musicians make little mistakes; it's more human.

  • Did anybody hear Alfredo Mojica's band in DC at same times of this? He was a great trumpeter born in El Salvador. He lived in DC on 60's-80's until his death.

    His band sounded like this.

  • Jeeeez. That bass player is insane.

  • love the bass, jaw hit the floor

  • @ModernSaxDotCom yeah! He looked like a redneck logger who could rock the bass! LOL I love the combination! :) He still has a beard these days too, even though it's way trimmed down and grey. :)

  • WTF? Dig the all PEAVEY backline!

  • Mike the MAN - RIP!

  • great bass player

  • micheal morales is my jazz ensemble teacher lol fuckin insane performance!!! suck my dick

  • Amazing bass player with a unique Jamaaladeen Tacuma/Jaco-esque approach. One of the best and most original bass comp performances I've heard.

  • There's 12 years betwen this performanc and the Chambers performance.... (this was 1980)

  • i quite like the drummer.. im a drummer my self and i must admit that i admire him.. Dennis Chambers is also very good but they have very different styles...

  • I agree. He plays tight.

  • I prefer Chamber's style, but I certainly wouldn't call this cat unprofessional.

  • christ this band is powerful.this cooks

  • Drummer definitely has the Tony Williams thing going... great player

  • how porwerfull guys

  • omg soooo goooood raw bare br00tal tallent!

  • Damn...Neil Stubbenhaus rips it up on the bass solo! Whatever happened to that guy?

  • the base player is the one and only rock legend neil jason!the incomparable neil jason.Get it right jackass!

  • He plays the bass, not the "base." Would you get it over with and fellate him already?

  • Better yet go Blow yourself !!!!!

  • yeah, neil jason is terrific :)

    And they all are !

  • Pure jazzfunk sickness from musicians of outrageous talent!

    RIP Michael.

  • Thats what I call funk. Great energy in this video.

  • Géniale version de Some Skunk Funk, mais petit souci de thème de la mesure 15 à 17, chez les soufflants, car la section rythmique et pressée

  • nicee a little too fast but i like it

  • I was doing my homework while listening to this...when I heard that drum solo I had to stop and watch...

  • just read a 1987 guitar player article on neil jason, got curious and found this...what's he doing now?

  • oh my god !! probably one of the most impressive version of some skunk funk. Neil Jason is absolutely terrific..about Michael i would just like to say RIP and you were the best!

  • Woooow, listen this bass sound man. Huh, cool 70's funk/

  • If you like that type of finger style bass playing check out Rocco Prestia of Tower of Power. He's probably the best at it.

  • Forget the slapping/popping part, Rocco is strictly finger style.

  • The year is 1980, I was the sound mixer for this tour, In 1978 I was ion the road with Sea Level. This is DEFINITELY from 1980. Ihave all the board tapes from the tour on cassette tape.

  • Hi again..a favorit group as well. Thanks for posting your clips like this..awsome. Tindra66

  • hehe, listen from 5:59 to 6:05 hey! he stole the super mario bros underground theme :( !!!! jk lol. but maybe thats where Miyamoto got the song from xD

  • this is from 1980.. i have 2 more brecker brothers songs from the north sea jazz 1980

I don't know the names of those songs but maybe you can help me

  • neil jason is the original bassist on the recording . He kills!

  • I thought it was Will Lee on the original. But Neil Jason is rockin here!

  • Will Lee was the original bassist.

  • Neil jason was and always will be the worlds greatest base player. Will lee wishes!.

  • I appreciate your enthusiasm for Neil Jason, though I do not share it. Will Lee was still the original bassist, and will always be the bassist most associated with this track.

  • Neil Jason is the one who played on "Heavy Metal Bebop." He kills, I agree. I wish that a video with Bozzio on the drums exists somewhere...

  • I had this on tape once and I have waited 18 years for this moment. Incredible that I can finally see that bassist! One of the best songs ever!

  • Do you know how is this like on the electone?? It's a DIFFICULT piece of music, but wonderful!

  • that bassist is mental!

  • what year is this?

  • 1978

  • Michael Brecker - Tenor Saxophone

    Randy Brecker - Trumpet

    Mark Alexander Gray - Piano

    Barry Finnerty - Guitar

    Neil Jason - Bass

    Richard Morales - Drums

  • love the drummer! he beat the shit out of his drums! lovely!

  • Updated the information to include the members of the band. The bass player is a beast huh?

  • Great footage of awesome musicians. Thanks for posting. Michael...we will definately miss you.

  • jesus.....who is that bassist? and why has this only been viewed twice?
