I think the whole writers strike is fantastic! It's so great to see all the writers and actors from various TV stations come together for a very important cause.

The average writer's salary of a member of the writer's guild of america is $200,000 dollars well above what most people get paid and definitely enough to afford an education even at an expensive ivy league school. This strike is just as stupid as when baseball players who get paid even more money threatened to go on strike cux of a salary cap
Averages lie. The median income of a WGA writer is $5,000. Five thousand dollars. That is because the majority of writers do not work in a given year -- residuals are important for this reason.

Anything remotely disagreeing with your opinions you reject(thumbs down). How do you hope any one else to give something up in a debate if your not even willing to listen to their side or compromise. If you ask me all of the entertainment industry, including studio moguls, is paid too much. Americans that actually work jobs that keep the country going, or make new advances in science, go unrecognized.
No such thing as getting paid too much; you get paid what someone is willing to pay. At any rate, 1/3 of a cent per DVD is a shitty deal and writers who generate the content that GOES ON those DVDs can and should hold out for better.
Regardless off what yall say the AVERAGE, meaning the best algebraic and scientific way of looking at a large range of data (Not median), salary is $200,000. Thats a fact not a lie. just because its not wahat u want 2 hear doesnt mean its not true. If this is how u work for compromise, you guys are probably going to lose money.
I am not a writer, just and observer of people making billions of dollars while EXTRAS working on movies are homeless. their should be a law stating that all companies should pay all employees a 50% of the gross income.
EXTRAS dont have a guild. its the writers who are on strike. I guarantee you that ther person who filmed and acted in this make more money than all of you.
Uhm... ever heard the example: you have 19 homeless people with no money and one millionaire in a room - the average wealth of everyone is $50000. Which shows how a pure average is typically worthless data. The median on the other hand is $0 which paints a much more realistic picture of whats going on.. YALL
you people are living in a delusion. america is falling. why, because when it comes to a living wage, we the people are UN-UNITED, you don't understand that we are all interconnected. when one group go down, it just a matter of time before the next one goes. i'm just sitting on the outside watching the cookie crumble
Excellent ;-) Tellin' it like it is, with humor. Miserly Moguls will not Monopolize the Money! Share the profit with the people who create the product!

I'm with you, brb. Even if there is a good reason for their strike, which I highly doubt, their timing was way off. Now, they're going to have to come back down to reality and get normal jobs and become like us. The ride is over. You people had it so rough deciding how many times Jack Bauer was going to say 'Dammit, we're running out of time' in an episode or whether Scofield was going to have to change his gameplan again. Now, you get to worry about real problems like the rest of us.
And so is Australia! Things have to change. Without creatives, there is no future! And better yet, the new online formats are showing we don't necessarily need big broadcasters to get product out there. Soon broadcasters are going to be begging the writers for new and original content.
That is too funny! BTW most writers are middle class as well. They're fighting for a fair share, (not MO' MONEY. SOME MONEY) of work they create. That's like saying a baker gets an hourly wage so the cake should be free!! Or the restaurant owner who charges the party a gratutity then puts in his pocket instead of paying the server. oooooh! I bet more than a few writers remember those days...

WGA these tactics you're employing are disgustingly selfish. You're driving the REAL middle class out of the industry, people who; don't have agents and multi-million dollar deals, have to work just as hard and as long to make it in the business and then deal with the same job uncertainty you do with much smaller pay and without residuals every month... these are the people that will suffer the most from your selfish strike because they can't afford to be unemployed for 6 months like you.

blackrubberbag, you're such a fool, it's insane. Not all unions are perfect, but they're responsible for 40-hour workweeks, the end of child labor and other things that make sure employees don't get screwed over.
Why don't you read a history book and learn the history of unions before bullshitting nonsense.
Blackrubberbag has no idea what he/she is talking about. The WGA is not making rediculous demands. This is a union which has 48% of its members unemployed at any given time, and according to the David Letterman writer's blog, half of them don't meet the minimum earning requirement for their own union's health insurance. This is not an issue of wealthy writers wanting to become richer. This is about people getting their fair share when money is made off of something they create.

You guys can continue to chant inane slogans while walking in circles for just as long as you like.
Americans see your selfish thug-like behavior for what it is, maybe if you had hired better writers the strike would have turned out differently.
