I remember this morning well. Reporter Roy Neal and I were close friends and I was talking to him via ham radio -- car to car -- as he was on his way to Edwards AFB and I was on my way to my job in Chattsworth CA. He said to make certain to watch because if this flight was successful it would truly be the beginning of a new era. And it was!

The shuttle is a rev 1.0 RLV it took a lot of iterations before they happened onto the first practical airliner.
