yeah 600cc is about as far as I would go for your first bike. But I like sticking with the 600's anyway. Light and they have plenty of speed. Plus there a few k less then the 1000cc's. Just my thoughts.

Your dirt bike experience will help a lot. But, these bikes are a different beast... don't be fooled. If you are looking for a first bike just to upgrade a summer or two later, I'd recommend a Katana (GSXF600). They aren't as powerful, but still look awesome and are a blast to ride. It'll just help keep you from killing yourself. And, they're cheaper on insurance. I started on one thinking of it as a disposable bike and still have it 8 years later...

Yeah the GSXR is a fantastic starter bike. Just don't let your age show on the bike, I'm 19 aswell and It is hard sometimes.

How would you describe it's acceleration? Slow low end then good top end?

I'd say the cbr has the best low end acceleration but the gsxr comes a close second for the 600cc's. For top end you'd want to go Yamaha though.

this bike was brand new and has been long gone. i haven't kept up with this lately but you can try calling my old store though at 415-771-4535. it's in CA so if you live outside of cali it will sound more expensive (out of state is cheaper but you can't reg a new bike until it is 3y/o or has at least 7.5K miles) where do you live?

Normal operating temp is between 160F and 270F. When it goes above 240F usually the liquid cooling system goes into effect. However, if you notice that your bike is tending to run on the high side you may want to get it checked.  I usually don't like to rev a bike until it's at least over 100F. Most bikes won't register a reading until 68F or higher but I like to warm her up a bit. It's more about what the running temp is for me than for how long; w/fuel inj tech u don't have to wait but ido

I have the exact same bike. Only thing I'm not thrilled with is the back seat. I keep the cowl on mine. Just removed the passenger pegs and mount. Looks even sleeker.
