The vets served honorably! I for one did not think they fought in vain. They helped a country (south vietnam) fight for their right of freedom. In the process create a stable friend in the region. That wasn't a war in vain. Thank you Vietnam Vets for your service. You are all great Americans!

The vets served honorably! I for one did not think they fought in vain. They helped a country (south vietnam) fight for their right of freedom. In the process create a stable friend in the region. That wasn't a war in vain. Thank you Vietnam Vets for your service. You are all great Americans!

All the frothy chest-beating about "true heroes" and "I was there, man" crap wear on me. I was in the military. I was in an airborne infantry combat line company. I have carried a loaded rifle in foreign lands to enforce foreign policy. Vietnam vets are historically some of the whiniest and self-deluding vets this country has ever seen. In my experience 99.999% of them are completely full of shit and are guilty of poorly retelling stories they read as though they were there own.

I think most soldier's don't get the respect they deserve is because they are so alienated from society and people when they return. Times have changed and most people can't comprehend what the soldier's experienced. It's too bad because these guys are the biggest hero's there are. All soldier's deserve a medal, most of all the

It should also be noted that unlike today's wars the VNvets mostly did not willingly choose to go--and that made it all the more heartbreaking.
