Great video! One thing that was not explained though, is the use of the non-hitting arm in the swing. To the more advanced students, the non-hitting arm leads the hitting arm in the opening of the shoulders in the up-swing, then leads in the down-swing by compressing the shoulders, transferring forward momentum across to the hitting shoulder. It makes all the difference in speed and power just like a sprinter using blocks. Observe the slow motion shot at the end of the video. Go Team Ektelon!

When he's simulating the back hand stance, it seems you almost have to do a lung with that shot to achieve the form. Is that an exxageration or is it necessary for a back band stance?
Excellent mechanical explaination of the backhand John. I will post this on our High School Racquetball teams Facebook page so they can see the proper technique (that I try to teach also) for the backhand shot. The grip switch is very important. The only people that don't think so are the ones who don't employ it and have a less than effective backhand shot. GREAT VIDEO!
Hey, I appreciate the videos. I watched this one once, practiced it once and my backhand noticeably improved (better than my forehand now).
Would love it if you would tack on a couple more action shots at the end, maybe from the side or back so we can view your form from a couple of different angles.
The wrist will snap on its own, its part of the whole motion. You do not need to consciously do it. Nice video, I have problems changing my grip fast enough though.
He was showing you the BASIC motion. Snapping your wrist is more advanced. No point in snapping your wrist when your basic swing is not right. (Also can hurt your wrist)
Nice video.. good information. I sent this to my girlfriend that I am teaching. She is having a hard time with her back hand and she will really get good use from this.
the backhand grip change is important. im a B player but i have a better backhand than most of the A players and even a couple open players at my club because i change by grip. for more racquetball videos go to rballer.webs. com

WHY ARE YOU YELLING
ZBroder 3 years ago
Why does it matter? If it's too loud, no one is forcing you to watch it. He's being nice enough to share info with us.

The echo in a racquetball court is really bad, its hard to hear anyone.. you need to yell

If you hit backhand using a forehand grip, you'll never have a decent backhand.
k1llshot 3 years ago 2
I dont change my grip and I hit it fine...I think the racquet prep and swinging flat is more important...John Ellis is the man....
