@kinglightboy I used a tablet to do the initial sketch (at the beginning), but the rest was done on a mouse. The line tool doesn't react well with a tablet, since it asks for precision rather than artistic strokes.

@ThomasandDBZ2010 Actually, that's a line I deleted, I didn't recolor it. The ear was on a layer above the head.

@ThomasandDBZ2010 The black arrow tool can select a segmented line. Alternatively, pick the eraser and set it to erase lines only and then move it over the line you want gone.

I draw them out (make a square or other shape) and use the black arrow tool to modify their edges or add points (ctrl+click and drag to add points, normal click and drag to modify a shape's edge). It's only when it's finished that I actually make it into a symbol.

How do you subtract one object from another? You did it when making the hair, you took one oval and subtracted it from the other? I tried using blending mode, but no success.

I'm using Flash's vector based drawing style to my advantage. Essentially, I created a circle, copied it and placed the copy how I wanted. Since both circles were on the same layer, then the second circle overlapped the first. So when the second is deleted, it takes a chunk out of the first. So long as they're not symbols, this'll work with all shapes.

It's on its own layer. Most everything has its own layer in that construction.

The sketch, the head, the left eye, the right eye, etc etc. But yeah, the sketch is on its own layer, so it's easy to get rid of it without breaking everything else.

Yes, that would have been optimal. But I had to do the entire head within 20 minutes to fit it into a demo. I'd try and make it a lot more natural looking if I was going to make a finished product rather than a quick demo.

But yes, the head has a lot of flaws due to speed.

If you mean the basic "Paint" that comes with windows (in the accessories folder), then no. You can probably draw something similar if you are really good at it, but not using the technique I'm showing you in this demo.

I zoom in with the zoom tool by making a selection box on what I want to zoom in one (hotkey Z by default). I zoom out using the percentage bar in the top right of the timeline, usually at 100%.
