The fully extended position is the only position you are able to recruit the maximum number of muscle fibers. Rather than avoid it, everyone should strive to fully extend their legs in this exercise. There is very little compression on the knee in this position, contrary to popular belief.

Correct form: You should try pausing in the contracted position.
