  • all this rider doing is bouncebouncebounce with her butt and pokepokepoke with her spurs because of her noisy leg.

  • who said she is doing the sitting canter :/

  • ↓ Ive Been Riding For 13 Years.. When You Sit The Canterr You Try Not To Move Your Body A Whole Lotttt. You Just Sit Deep In The Saddle And Go With The Rythem If The Flow Staying has Still Has Posssiblllee

  • For an 'experienced rider' this was not very great.

  • This is not sitting the canter! The rider bounces so much! I've been cantering for a month and I sit it better than she does!

  • @ q8Pally. This was a correct canter. What you are talking about would be called a gallop. And you can go brag on how fast your horse goes on a different video.

Anyways i loved this video because you gave so much knowledge. Thanks:)

  • This Aint No Canter!! when my horse canter he jumps and rushes like a mad BULL!! and I could barley survive! :3 when I bounce up n down I hope that I dont HIT my ballz!! or else UGGGHH!!!!

  • she is leaning forward too much :/ i tried this and i was told its no good :/

  • Shouldn't you be sitting heavy in the saddle?

  • This is more like an informational video, not an instructional one.

  • Well... I don't understand, why she is bouncing up and down? O.K. I do that only when I turn a horse because it's easier to me.

  • OMG! The rider isn't even sitting the CANTER!!!!!

  • wow. so this is a three point? first time i saw it. thanks 4 info. it'll b useful while riding my horse :)

  • Most of the commentators who criticize this rider for "bumping" probably have never heard of this position which is called "3-point position". It does not do any damage to horse. You better don't waste the time here, rather take more lessons and learn something!

  • I could be wrong, but you're not supposed to bump the saddle? /:

  • @sugarbranch That's three point position....like two point but with a light contact on the seat....not slap, slap, slap. You'll see that she sits down on the corners and goes up to the light seat on the straight. Maybe instead of criticizing other people, you'd like to post a video of yourself riding the canter so perfectly....

  • hmmm the horse doesn't even appear to be on the bit with its head all the way up like that, i think i sit better in a canter and between balance and leads to maintain the horse i think balance is more important...

  • i thought this was sopposed to be about balance not leads

  • Geez.... I'm not even that experiensed at horse riding and I can sit to a canter better than her.

  • WTF! are'nt she supposed to follow the horse's movements instead of bouncing up and down in the saddle?!!!

  • THIS isnt text book. Although, being an english born and bred rider, ill be corrected by americans whove been riding 6months

  • 1. y is she not showin her sitting in her canter??

    2. her lower leg is terriblee

  • @jayport214 that's pretty dog you shouldn't be judging peoples riding ability or EVEn the way they look that's just uncalled for :/

  • (Like this comment if you agree) Forget the horse and the horrible horseback rider for a second. This women needs to follow the horses Example and Comb her hair at *least* once a day. Her hair reminds me of the horses tail in the video. Out of Control......

  • There are many ways to train a horse, some are better than others. I have no problem asking more of my horse but do so in a non offensive way. General trainers get general results, Specific trainers get specific results. People who start with their goal instead of taking smaller steps to keep the horse happy will result with issues of unhappiness, such as tail swishing etc.Everyone has their own ideals of what is right or wrong. I find that when my horse is happy, I can get the training to excel.

  • I believe the title is 'How to maintain balance at a canter' which it is not. The rider doesn't maintain balance at any point of the canter. She should be taught a correct seat before worrying about canter leads. Your body position is supposed to pivot from the knee and she is twisting her body around like there's no tomorrow! Also, her hands should be still and above the horses neck, i can't help but notice that every other stride they are resting on it's neck. And for god's sake sit back girl!

  • Well, I would have to say leads have nothing to do with YOUR riders balancing... She needs to lean back in the saddle. heels down and shoulders back. she can not be foward back forward back that is eritating for a horse.she should also not have spurs! Let her use a small crop. if NESSISARY!! When she is going for lead changes. she should be getting them in the middle of the arena not the end in the corner that is cheating. it is always easier to get a lead in the corner! and hold her hands still

  • Spurs are fine and all, but they are hitting the poor thing for no reason every single step he takes... She isn't tapping him to go faster, or to start she is just hitting him with spikes every single time! Uhmm...?

  • I think shes to stiff in the sadle she has to move more with the horse

  • This woman kind of reminded me of a video Chelsea Handler would make, except there's nothing funny about it.

  • OMG!!!stop with the germany stuff!!!!!like most of us live either in canada or the U.S.!!! and u got the riding all wrong.......

  • I guess I need to make a video on how to Maintain balance at a canter. It will not matter if you ride English, Western or Bareback...It will be about sitting on a horse while it canters/lopes/gallops/handgallop/trot/pace/rack/foxtrot/extended trot or any other name you can come up with...It will be about keeping center balance and being comfortable in your seat, being able to sit on the horses back no matter what the speed. I cannot imagine the horse that I could not sit, any speed, any style.

  • OMG this lady speaks so annoying!

  • Your rider needs to sit to the canter and if the rider cant then use a half seat. Also her leg needs to be a ton more still.

  • Exactly, The title said ''How to balance at a canter'' not when a horse changes leads in canter.

  • Is it just me, or does she twist clockwise a couple of inches every stride. If you took the horse away you'd see her knees doing it even. If you catch a glimpse of her straight on from the back, her rear has rotated outside the center of balance of the horses back (and saddle). That I have been taught to be wrong. She is very forward, I keep assuming she's just in 2-pt. Some instructors are still teaching this. Last time I was taught this position was southeastern US in the 90s.

    Not correct.

  • SHE IS cantering correctly. Stop with the "in Germany we are taught to sit the canter" same with the UK person. Sitting a canter is NOT the only way to ride it. She is NOT bouncing around, she is lightly coming back down and is in control. It's like posting, you sit back down lightly. She's simply following the movement and rhythm. Leaning forward a bit is also okay for balence.

  • ok like poor horse man ur rider is bouncing around in the saddle like there is no tommorow i am not the best at riding but i ride better than her

  • really good ride and explanation but i have to point out the horses neck is tense and it dosent look like the horse is having a exhilarating, balanced or fun canter. and maybe next time take of the spurs. just some advice i thought might help with the canter next time :)

  • U guys are pros! Thanks so much this helps me alot!

  • No offence.. But watching her butt slap down on the saddle.. she may as well be a plank of wood..

  • I only ride western and even I know she shouldn't be leaning forward so much. Sit in the center of the saddle. Horse looks great though!

  • i'm not sure how they teach it in the US but in the UK we are taught to sit down into the saddle, and this girl seems to be ileaning forward. It looks awkward.. plus it's not good for keeping your balance..

  • @poniesarethebest its taught the same here but shes has NO CLUE what shes doing both instructor and rider

  • that is not a good rider no matter what the style that you are riding. Centered balance is centered balance is centered balance. I am an accomplished English rider as well as bareback and western. Sitting a canter means your butt does not leave the saddle. If one would consider that English, then one needs to go to a more educated trainer to learn. Your comment is just silly.

  • Useless. You're supposed to start with a sitting trot, then go into the canter. It would have been nice if this vid clip would have focused on telling the RIDER how to handle themselves in the saddle while the horse canters. The horse knows how to canter, it's been trained to canter. It's the RIDER who needs tips and pointers.

  • Horse looks mad.

  • this isnt even on balance with a cater ...retarddddddssss

  • i thought it was about how to canter not lead?

  • Why do you call all horses he? The generic word for she or he is it. For example, the horse is cantering on it's left lead

  • You should rename this video "Horse Canter Leads" or something to that affect. This rider is not that balanced and her lower leg is moving around a lot!

  • well i have only dont a trot but this video dose no help. i hope that the horse knows how to canter. i dont need to know who it dose so. you did not tell use anything on how to stay on a horse when it cantering but only how it is cantering!

  • Really no offense person who is speaking. But you annoy me -_-

  • @SelenaDemiLover510 i no eh? im trying to find how to balance in the canter not talking about leads and all that is so friken annoying and he voice, argghh i just reall no what u mean but shes so irritating all the same, btw i love demi and selena too, Selena's like my idol :)

  • @TheNameIsShiki I know, right?!?! Haha.. Eh? Are you from Canada? xD And yeah, Sel and Demi are awesome :) I once talked to Demi till 1 in the morning on a website, but then she left. And now i only talk to Selena :P

  • @SelenaDemiLover510 really how do u talk to them and on which website??

naah im not from canada i lived in scotland and im scottish but now i live in australia :) x

  • she is leaning forward too much and she is too stiff....her heels are going inside too much and her knee grab is aweful...if the horse stops now she will go flying!!! no offence...get a better rider.

  • Why is she not teaching her to sit a proper canter before she is putting all this worry on leads? I am watching her butt go slap, slap, slap in that saddle...Just what the horse does not need...a good back beating and I see way to much daylight. This beginner rider has NO business wearing spurs until she can properly sit the canter....Instructor...pay better attention to your student !!!! That horses busy tail says her spurs are going bump, bump, bump with almost every stride.

  • @sugarbranch exactly! i can see her legs flapping with every stride...she needs to get a stronger leg before wearing spurs....also learning to sit the canter properly would be fairly nice.

  • @sugarbranch you make great points. I'm taking english lessons and am having trouble with balance at a canter maybe you could do videos that i can look over and learn when I'm not at my lesson. I like your feedback

  • @airedale360 Taking western lessons & just started cantering! Could def use some good tips too...

  • @sugarbranch I think the rider is attempting a half seat or 2-point position at the canter. Although there are varying ways of doing it, you can clearly see that she is not thumping on the horses back. She may be bumping her horse a little with her spurs, but her toes are turned out and not faving forward, so that is the most probable reason why, and the horse doesn't look agitated at all. There would be a lot more furious tail swishing if he was really bothered by it.

  • @megankirkby lol you must be kidding...that is not good riding no matter how you look at it and how much tail ringing is ok to cause? If it is not tail wringing from being irritated by her spurs, what would be the cause of it's irritation? of course it is her. I have seen way worse riders and I am sure with lessons, time and experience she will be fine but let's not make up excuses...just address the issues, correct them and get on with it. Ride on!

  • @sugarbranch how do u stay in the saddle while cantering, i have tried putting more pressure in my heels, not clinging on with my thighs but nothing is working

  • @lolliesam18 I would gladly give you some pointers and I bet if I had you in person, I could have you sitting that canter like a pro in a single lesson. It is actually easy once you learn. I tried to post a serious reply but this site does not give me enough space to tell you...drop me an email if you like sugarbranch@eaglezip.net and I will share some insight with you and hopefully give you the answers that you seek. I am only here to help, never hurt.

  • @sugarbranch Any advice for sitting the canter would be amazing. I just started cantering..

  • @lolliesam18 dont put heaps of pressure in your heels just sit still, try cantering without stirrups, that will help you, best way to learn!

  • @sugarbranch thats an english way of sitting a canter.

  • @surfgirl505 no...English riders do not go up and down in the saddle at canter, they either sit the canter fully or stand in the stirrups the whole time and do 'forward seat'.

  • @templarknight94 thats what i meant, the forward seat

  • @sugarbranch Good horsemanship :D

  • @sugarbranch actually i cant see her spurs touching the horse at all. and the tail is hardly moving.. if you think thats tail swishing, you should see my horse tail swish, and its not because im hurting my horse, its because she gets pissed off when she gets asked to do something difficult, like the horse in this video swishes its tail when it is asked to do a flying change.

  • @epona202 The horse can feel and shows what you cannot see. This horse is unhappy and there is a reason why. There are many ways to work and train horses but unhappy is unhappy. I do not EVER ignore an unhappy horse and try to remedy the issue before going any further. Your horse should be a happy, willing partner. Tail swishing is your horse trying to tell you something and you can listen to to horse and try to fix the issue or you can ignore it and keep pushing, sometimes they will push back

  • @sugarbranch The horse actually isnt giving signs that it is unhappy, his ears show that he is happy and relaxed. Have you not seen the video of blue hors matine? She swishes her tail all throughout her test but her ears show she is calm and relaxed, relaxed enough to come second in the 2006 weg freestyle dressage. This horse IS a happy and willing partner, otherwise the rider would be on the ground by now. Her two point seat could be more stable but her spurs arent touching the horse at all

  • @sugarbranch and like ive said, i KNOW what my horses tail swishing means. She'll swish her tail when im making her work hard, more over her back and into a contact, or if i put my leg back to give a canter aid she will tail swish because she is a mare and is sensitive on her belly area.

  • @sugarbranch If you want to make your horse a better athlete you have to do things that are difficult for the animal for it to progress, otherwise you arent going to get anywhere. Why do you think dressage tests get more difficult? Because the animal should be able to handle harder movements as training progresses.

  • @sugarbranch haha, yeah not to mention her broken wrists, stiff back and duck feet.

  • @sugarbranch ur totally right! the rider looks like a beginner! Her but is going up down up down! poor horse!

  • Respond to this video... is this a science video?or wat!

  • I love cantering :)

  • she is using spurs???

  • how do you CHANGE leads?

  • the first time i canterd i was on a really tight lunge line then right when he went to a canter i flew of and landed head first but i put my arms out than i sprained my wrist, it only lasted about 2 months but now im really excited to go back and try cantering again!!! and no im not afraid of horses i just couldent ride cause of my wrist

  • i just learned how to canter a week ago WITHOUT a lunge line! it was hard because of my balance. i didnt kno how to balance on it! but i guess u can say i did pretty good or the most part...

  • i didn't know this was a "horse's leaads" video... I could have sworn it said "how to balance at the canter" hmm

  • @Horses4ever8 yeah! but she is getting her leads in the corner which is making it so easy. she should be getting them in the middle. by that first red jump you see. at 0:23

  • @Horses4ever8 The leads determine the balance. If a horse is on the wrong lead, the horse will not be in balance. Do the math. As a rider, I know.

  • @StyleMisser but she is only talkign about switching leads. you hve to be able to sit the canter still if the horse is on the wrong lead. dont have to be rude geez

  • @Horses4ever8 ironically that rider wasn't very balanced lol

  • omg shes wearing spurs i thought only good people had to were them !:O

  • @1283jm good people?

  • My Riding Instructor says make sure you stay firmly on the saddle not post

  • I am just learning to ride english, and this lady or young lady on the horse needs a complete different trainner, they just don't work together, her butt is pounding the horse every stride. What a great horse to put up with this rider who needs like me to start all over again.

  • ......You said you're just learning to ride english?

  • her eyes are covered by her hair!

  • She's like standing up in the stirrups, shes leaning forward, her toes are sticking out and she looks like shes trying to do a two point. Good horsie for trying to stay balanced while the rider tries to ride.

  • @tulupgirl LOL Your right! by the way! Your comment made me laugh so hard that.. Even while I'm on my horse reading this I fell off from laughing!

  • None of her videos are helpful t all. Why is it titled how to maintain balance at a canter when all she does i babble on on all her videos about the horses legs? The rider is not balanced or comfortable either, I also noticed that.

  • shes leaning forward, moving her legs too much and bouncing up and down

  • wonderful
