  • Dude! In The Name of God is my favorite song! I might not know so many of the other ones, you put on the list, but i sure do love your taste for ITNoG! :D

  • nice list dude!

like it, My favorite band is Dream Theater, so thats the cause xD

  • i was expecting something havier like: Textures- Sun´s architect, some hatebreed´s awsome guitar riffs, mudvayne, rammstein-ich tu... if you know some badass intros like those ones please tell me.

  • I like the description. The video is cool too. :P

  • so exellent!!! i love it all :D but the riff in Inferno, by symphony x, is better to my, just my

    opinion

  • @alevd14

I do like the Inferno riff, as Michael Romeo is one of the best guitarists out there - however, I don't consider it to be all that "heavy." Thanks for commenting!

  • Good list, but I love how you have creed here, but not any mastodon. The intro riff of march of the fire ants will blow your mind.

  • Soulfly - Jump the f. up. Korn - Here to stay. Mudvayne - Internal primates forever.

  • next time you should include "Resurrection" by Chimaira. The first 30 seconds are so awesome. by the way, good job on this playlist and THANK YOU for introducing me to Brainstorm.

  • @Giovannino357

Thanks! I forgot how I came across Brainstorm...I've never known anyone else who has even heard of them, but they have some pretty awesome stuff. Another one of theirs that I really like is "Arena."

  • and pantera !!!?? ...

  • @dlikor

...is not on this list. They will never be on a list like this for me, despite all the people who have come on here saying what you just said. :)

  • @SnareSpectre ty for putting these songs up from some bands i never heard of

  • @dlikor

    WALK!!

  • hahahaha pussy

  • @XxYamiHiroshixX

    Highly unnecessary.

  • i Lol'd at creed. Granted that is pretty much the only creed song i can tolerate. It's not a bad song but would never put in a top 15 anything list.

  • @Ozzydethica

Lol, I'm only referring to the one riff, not an entirety of any of their songs. I don't care what anyone says about the band, or all the garbage they get...that riff is HEAVY.

  • No disrespect man, just talking metal to another metalhead, but no Electric Wizard? No Lamb of God? No Pantera? C'mon man!

  • @lpcrush

I never thought Lamb of God and Pantera were recorded in such a way that their so-called heavy riffs were all that heavy. It's like their guitars are too high in the mix and there's not enough bass to round out the bottom end and fill it out make it heavy.

I had never heard of Electric Wizard before, but I just listened to some....again, it has to be recorded well for me to like it, and that stuff is so distorted and clipping all over the place! Haha!

    Don't worry, no offense taken.

  • @SnareSpectre Haha, its cool man, but Electric Wizard is recorded fine, they sound like that on purpose. Haha. Either way man, good list.

  • pretty good list, man! there's a few songs that i would say are heavier, but for the most part i liked them! that bury your dead riff is sick haha

  • thanks to u i am now in love with brainstorm and symphony x....thanks a bunch haha

  • @drummerboy11695

Awesome! If you haven't heard any of Symphony X's newest album Iconoclast, be sure to check that one out... if I had made this list after it was released, there'd probably be like 3 riffs from that album on this list!

  • Let's introduce you to good ol' Lamb of God Riffs, eh?

  • @EpicFailureful

Laid to Rest and Redneck are pretty good, but to me their stuff lacks real groove...I like a lot of it, but it can get too straightforward and repetitive for my tastes.

  • Let's introduce you to some good old dick tingling Lamb of God Riffs, hm?

  • i was actually taking this video seriously until i saw creed, then i was like fuck it

  • @hssn0903

It's okay, I understand there are people who like to follow popular opinion rather than form their own about a band based on their actual merits.

  • @SnareSpectre Well i dont "follow" popular opinions, i didnt in any way "imply" any of the " poular opinions" when i wrote that comment.

well i dont to start a fucking debated about heavy riffs so fuck it.

  • @hssn0903

Haha calm down, Sniffles! I was only joking. :)

  • you did choose right with In the Name of God from DT, all the video I was like "it's obvious he choosed this one as N1"

  • @IwonYou121 coming from a guy who listens to a bunch of fags in a band wearing masks lol.. nuff said

  • @smagmatits aw come on I listen to Dream Theater, Megadeth, Slipknot, Trivum, As I Lay Dying, Dark Tranquility and a bunch more.... stfu with the gender and fucking unite against Pop, Rap, Hip-Hop all that fucking shit

  • cool to see karnivool up there. didnt know many yanks knew about them

  • @bradscicluna1

    Yanks?

  • @SnareSpectre americans

  • Sad But True?

  • Karnivool, Nothingface, Porcupine Tree, and Opeth... Awesome.

  • cool list....should have included metallica-sad but true, and DT-as i am

  • *Metallica

  • Metallic should be on this list

  • Fuck yes, Opeth! Mike is a riff genious

  • 1. Heaviness isn't all Metal is about.

2.Dream Theater isn't so heavy. You included 4 songs by them. And the heaviest thing they ever done is The Dark Eternal Night. That riff in ITOG isn't heavy.

    3. Porcupine Tree :). Actually there's a riff in Anesthetyze that's much heavier than this,

    4. Actually you have some very good tastes :) (PT, DT, SX, Opeth)

    5. Talking about really heavy riffs, ever have you heard of Electric Wizzard?

  • @axzck

The title may refer to heavy riffs, but the opening sequences clarified that by including the words "grooviest and awesomest."

    1. I know.

    2. Are you kidding? I think DT has the heaviest riffs around - I didn't include garbage like Slipknot or Cannibal Corpse because that stuff doesn't groove to me. I want to contort my face and head-bang when I hear those DT riffs.

    3. That riff doesn't really groove to me. It almost just sounds like noise. Don't get me wrong - I adore the song, though.

  • @SnareSpectre should have included DT- as i am, in the name of god riffs....those r very heavy....gr8 list though!!!

  • @axzck

    4. Thanks! PT, DT, and SX are my top 3 favorite bands of all time. Opeth isn't really, but they do have those few super-awesome riffs.

    5. I never have, but you've got me interested. Going to check them out right now.

  • @axzck Also if you wanna hear some brutal as riffs have a look for Periphery, Animals As Leaders, Keith Merrow, Caligulas Horse, Dethklok,, etc..

  • @axzck honor thy father is heavier then the dark eternal night idiot

  • Chimaira, Sevendust, Karnivool - I completely agree

  • Definitely agree on Karnivool and Sevendust

  • i NEVER agreed in any top [stuff] videos on youtube, but every riff in this video is so fucking sick.

Karnivool? Porcupine Tree? Awesome choice on these 2 bands. Especially PT

  • I know Dream Theater is awesome but try to put 1 song from a band in a list. It makes you seem bias otherwise.

  • dude no one cares how simple the riffs r its how it sounds and how it makes u feel, the best guitar riffs are usually the simplest, you get sick of yngwei type shredding after a while it sound all the same

  • lol half of them were a power chord being strum 20 times in a row. fucking WEAK

  • @smagmatits

I'd be angry at your comment and try to refute your abrasive comment, but you favorited one of my drum covers, so you're still cool. :)

  • @SnareSpectre yea man I love ur drum covers. Just mad into Classic Rock.. keep up the good work!

  • @smagmatits music don't need to be complex, music need to be GOOD TO HEAR.

    YOU'RE WEAK!

  • thanks of collection

  • i was hoping to see Six feet under-The art of headhunting :C

  • Try black sabbath, very heavy riffs, especially for their time.

  • Paradise lost from symphony x... A fucking gret bad ass album

  • umm were the fuck is pantera

  • @JZDestruction

Walk and Becoming are pretty heavy but...meh, I don't really like their sound that much. :P

  • whats rong with pantera bro?

  • @nt7237

Nothing, they just don't scratch that itch for me. Dimebag's squealing guitars are hard for me to listen to and the singer/screamer's voice kinda gets on my nerves.

  • @SnareSpectre hmm ok then well not everyone likes everything, but u have to admit that they were pretty good?

  • @nt7237 Sure, I mean I know they're held in high regard in the metal community, and for the longest time Vinnie Paul seemed to be the "king" of double bass, but they're just not my style. I don't hate them or anything, I just have different music preferences.

  • @SnareSpectre cool man....... a cat that speaks his mind, but ya totaly know were youre coming from. its like me and dream theater, i think theyre great, but they aint my fav. freat musicians tho.

  • @JZDestruction u r so fucking right

  • I see that you like Dream Theater.... what about As I Am? imo opinion that has a great headbangin riff ;D

  • Definitely a great riff, but as someone stated on here I was already getting kind of heavy on the DT... had to throw some other "lesser" bands in here! :)

  • I'd have put Testament - Demonic Refusal and Machine Head - The Rage To Overcome on that list :-)

  • hmmm possession - whitechapel?? listen to it.

  • I did. I put the word "grooviest" in there for a reason. That song sounds like a thousand other dime-a-dozen bands to me; just some guy vomiting into a microphone, and the riff (imo) is completely uninspired.

It qualifies as "heavy," sure...but these are set apart to me because of the really groovy syncopation and unique-ness.

  • lol i love dream theater, and yes you picked some good shit, to get on there, but there was some heavier songs than your lower ranked dt songs.

  • these riffs arent really all that heavy...

  • i like the end riff in sulfur by slipknot

  • boring... iv heard heavier riffs..

  • @DKRaFiQ Oh is this your video? No? then shut the fuck up

  • @metaldrummer47 wth? its my comment.... who gives a shit bout what i say...

  • A little too much Dream theater there bud

  • So?

  • chimaira :D \m/

  • lol this is light stuff

  • the first riff in Two inches from a Main Artery

  • Lol, I've never heard of "Two Inches from a Main Artery," and it's not in this video - is that a band or a song?

  • @SnareSpectre its a song by Through the Eyes of the Dead...i dont like the song much but the opening riff is fantastic

  • Great list, I'd never really realised how good ITNOG's riffs are

  • mad kunt

  • ahem, amon amarth- guirdians of asgard.

  • porcupine tree shouldn't be in there they're shit tbh

  • Maybe you should make your own list and put some Jonas Brothers on it?

  • @SnareSpectre hahaha no funny fucker why would i do that shut up and get fucked

  • @xoLiGhTnInG Wow you are absurd they are one of the most technical bands around these days.

  • Holy shit, double comment but I don't care that fact that you put In The Name of God as the #1 just made my day. FUCK YES.

  • Fuck yeah. This list has PTree, DT, and Symph X. Rock on.

  • A shame u didn't put Opeth - The Funeral Portrait by 1:15

Oh my god, if u wanna see people jizzing in their pants, put that one in!

Haha, u got a really great list ;)

Check out my Drum Covers to really liked ur Circle Of Manias :)

  • i gotta say, i like the list, found a bunch of music i listen too and loved the abundance of Dream Theater's best

  • dream theater rocks ;)

  • The final riff in Karnivool's Goliath completely eclipses all of these, including Lifelike. Listen to is and tell me I'm wrong......

  • good list but... no ozzy and no kreator???

  • SEVENDUST!!!!!

  • \m/

  • :O no Sad But True!!!!!!!

  • Haha, Metallica isn't quite heavy enough to make the list :)

I did actually consider Enter Sandman's riff, though!

  • @SnareSpectre :O!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

they are the heaviest of the heavy.

    but your list inst bad

  • I just have a hard time listening to Lars Ulrich play...since I'm a drummer, I love for the drums to be an important part of the heavy groove, and the stuff he plays is a little too simplistic for my liking - plus, I can't STAND the way his drums are recorded, particularly that nasty snare!

Glad you think it's alright, though, even with the exclusion of Metallica...who heavily influenced Dream Theater, my favorite band :)

  • @SnareSpectre well on st.anger yes the snare is ugly, i still love it.

but listen to some of the master tracks of the old stuff and its a cannon, sounds much like yours :P

same with death magnetic, i went over the master tracks, and his snare is almost identical to the one u used in one of ur recent covers

  • Which cover? I'm always changing my snare sound because I'll get something I like, then hate it the next week, lol. Yeah, the ST. Anger snare was awful, and his snare on Death Magnetic might be alright...I just think the whole album sounds like trash, quality-wise. Love the music (That Was Just Your Life is now my favorite Metallica song ever), but I can't take all the clipping, and it distorts the sound of the snare soooo badly.

  • @SnareSpectre a few people remastered DM and it sounds almost holy

  • This is a really good list!!

really well made en the riffs are killer especially number 1 !

  • AWESOME! You've introduced me to some new music! Cheers.

  • I think brainstorm should be higher on the list, up there with the Symphony X tracks for sure. But other than that, sick list, Dream Theater is the best

  • fuck I love that deep guitar sound

  • When the vid came to constant motion, i thought "there's way heavier riffs than that...take the mirror, for example". Then, i laughed my ass off when it came up seconds later :D

Anyway, excellent choice...dream theater, symphony x and opeth are among my own favourite bands ;)

  • Haha yeah - can't discuss heavy Dream Theater riffs without putting "The Mirror" in there!

  • Awesome =D funny thing was I haven't listened to BYD in a while and just had the sudden impulse to bang that in my truck today on the way home I get on youtube and what do ya know the exact BYD song I was listening to last is number 8. It's probably only interesting to me but I felt like mentioning it anyways =P

  • Lol, I always love coincidences like that. Another favorite of mine is "House of Straw" (even though I usually don't like screaming vocal bands), but the others to me were just a little better so it didn't make the list :)

  • If you liked the Creed one, check out Alter Bridge's Buried Alive (Alter Bridge is Creed with a different singer). That has a nasty riff in it. Also, I'm requesting you do a drum cover it (and possibly Metalingus?) cause no one else has :D And you are def one of the best drummers on youtube!

  • Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad you like the drumming.

I love both Alter Bridge albums, and I think Blackbird may be one of my favorite albums of all time, even though I'm more into prog rock/metal...I LOVE Myles's voices.

You and I apparently think similarly - I did a cover of "Ties That Bind" a while back, actually, and although I haven't considered Buried Alive, the next song of theirs that I do will likely be Metalingus. Buried Alive = cool riff, but didn't quite make the list :)

  • I actually just looked at your profile and we have a very similar taste in music.

My top 5 are (in no particular order cause they are all awesome) Rush, Porcupine Tree, Dream Theater, Mastodon, and Alter Bridge. I am a drummer myself but I have only been drumming for just over a year now haha.

But yes! Please do Metalingus and Buried Alive! :D Also their third CD should be coming out September-ish... I'm excited.

  • Oh and I should add that I think Alter Bridge is, on average, way cooler than Creed. I just think that one riff in "What If" is awesome!

  • GREAT taste of music my friend! That was a great personal list! even saw some bands i did not know.. i do now thou :P if you wanna share music let me know man!

  • Glad you like it! If you want to recommend any bands to me I might not have heard of, I'd love to hear them - obviously most of my videos are drum covers, so it might give me some good new ideas for other covers!

  • how about fight? have you heard of them? they were rob halfords temporary band after jp broke up.

  • I didnt see any Andromeda in your video, so you might wanna check them out in any case ;)

  • Dream Theater is awesome. You should make a top 15 heavy riffs: mainstream edition

  • In relation to 2a and 2b, I think almost every riff on that album is face-melting.

  • Heck yeah! I almost included that opening riff from the song "Bleak" on here, but figured I'd be going a little overboard with Blackwater Park riffs, lol.

  • that was sick man but where was the "Lamb of God" at they should be in there somewhere but otherwise great

  • I actually considered "Laid to Rest," but ended up not taking it. I had trouble picking 10, so I upped it to 15...and almost upped it to 20 before I realized that would be ridiculous. Glad you liked it!

  • God what is this, alternative?

  • Haha, I'm not into mainstream stuff, so I guess you could call most of these bands "alternative."

Highly subjective, though - so you're more than welcome to disagree with the list if you prefer. :)

  • No I mean.. It sounds like Nickelback trying to be metal hahaha

  • u should call it top 10 best prog-metal riffs...
