@TOCORO100 Depends on the type, but, yeah, the X-35 can is capable of hovering. X-35A is conventional take-off and landing (CTOL) and X-35B is short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL).

@deltaD07 Nah, the difference is the versioning. It's the X-35C versus the F-35B. The C versions of the aircraft (X or F) are CATOBAR, the B version is STOVL and the A version is CTOL. They probably just included the X-35C instead of the F-35C because "X is cooler."

Only in a video game. In real life you will never see a jet landing on dirt, it must be a hard surface.

@nexus1g Jet turbine engines rely on suction to operate. The intake system is only equiped to suck air so if dirt gets into the combustion system then the jet turns into a 20 million dollar paper wieght.
