unilateral declaration of independence is not illegal in international law but subjects of international law are only states (like croatia, scottland, tibet, bayern etc...) If Kosovo independence was not illegal - so i may declare my garden independent if i dont want to pay taxes and thats not illegal following this precedens.

unilateral declaration of independence is not illegal in international law but subjects of international law are only states (like croatia, scottland, tibet, bayern etc...) If Kosovo independence was not illegal - so i may declare my garden independent if i dont want to pay taxes and thats not illegal following this precedens.

@MrDucatiBMW Of course you can. You can do it now. You are entirely within your right to do it. To have your neighbors, city council, government...etc.. recognize it as independent is another issue. The point is quasi states and nations claim independence all the time, just look at the Tamils in Sri Lanka. World recognition of this independence is the grounds for legitimacy, so then legality doesn't matter. Serbia should have known this, it was not bias, just a bad move by Tadic government

You confuse "state" with nation. Tibet is a nation and province of China, not a state. A state has its own government within its borders. Croatia is a state yes, Bayern is not. The concept of "states" as equivalent to provinces confuses things a bit.

@MrDucatiBMW Croatia was a republic of Yugoslavia. The Yugoslav constitution allowed any republic to leave if they chose to and certain criteria were met. Do disambiguate further, You can use the term state and province interchangeably but generally speaking, a state, in international relations, is a country with recognized self government and inviolable borders. A state within Germany or the US is still subject to national law and the constitution of Germany and the US respectively.

Kosovo is historically a part of Serbia but Serbia did everything to lose Kosovo. you can blame Milosevic for the loss of Kosovo, he revoked autonomy, took away rights to education and employment and replaced the police with Serbs. The fact that Serbs supported him (before they sent him to Hague) means they are deserving of this humiliation and punishment. Germany was punished after WWII and now so is Serbia. The guilty must pay.

Personally I don't care if we are united or not, but I do care for the common market. Man we speak the same langauge. Before 10 years ago we were only 3 milion now we are 6 plus the albanian of macedonia we go to 7 milion. With Kosovo independent, albania the market is going to be more powerful, in this moment big companies will come.
