  • The US had no business being involved in this war. France and Britain were doing just fine on their own. Our involvement probably did not change the eventual outcome of the war.

  • My History teacher loves this video and I love it as well.

  • @ViAxDoLpHiN so does mine!! hah a

  • @the18gearJammer lol man

  • My History teacher loves this video. And I love it as well.

  • was this played during WWII

  • @Rapclone WWl

  • @Rapclone This is a WWI song

  • and also there was a lot of propganda from the british againts the germans. and the zimmerman note was a reason for war.

  • i just discovered this gem of a video from mario youtube poops

  • I love this song! Why is there so much crappy music out there!?

  • I apologize to members of other nations. I meant last surviving AMERICAN World War I veteran.

  • Rest in peace, Frank Buckles, the last surviving WWI veteran. You and those who went before you served with honor, sir, and because of you, I am proud to call myself an American.

  • There is no main reason why we joined world war 1, two main ones were that we didn't not want the Germans to take over France and New Britain (England) because then they wouldn't pay us the debt they owed us, and also because the u boats sunk our transportation ships that we would send to the allies in Europe it was transporting weapons but secretly.

  • all of you idiots out there thinking we Americans went into WWII for selfish reasons are idiots. I agree with the british out there, you handeld the Nazi's fairly, blowin em' outta youre sky's, but we saved the French, Polish, Belgiums, North Africans, and countless others, not too mention Asians, and if the Japanese didnt start with us, are Navy would've been over 100 strong, blasting the Germans outta the water, I agree with CommanderCody, and not too metion the Jewish people.

  • @indiana5956 this is about ww1..............

  • This is ww1

  • usa thanks for peace and freedom that we live in today, a Peruvian

  • The US entered WWII because Japan attacked Pearl Harbour and a declaration of war against Japan was a declaration of war against Nazi Germany too. So before any American tries to say "we saved your ass" you did it for selfish reasons. Now, everyone, kindly stfu disrespecting the millions of innocent men who knowingly died just to give you the goddamn right to be pricks on these comments.

  • I am British and yeh you saved are buts in ww1

    cheers

but if you ask me why we bet the nazis in world war11 is was more because of the Russians

because they spilt the nazi forces on two fronts.

besides you where fighting the japs

  • @100hithere What? they saved us in WW2, not 1 :p...

and besides, we could have done it without them, it would have just taken a load longer, the only reason the yanks joined in is because germany declared war on the US in an attempt to ally with Japan, so aside from that, the russians still made a larger sacrifice for us, over 1 million soldiers died on the eastern front, and they didn't claim any credit, the yanks were all like "We did it! we saved europe!"

  • @Hpraetzel The rissians pulled out of ww1, america came into ww1 because the french asked for help.

  • @wiliesan well, mostly it was the Zimmerman note that Germany made to Mexico and the sinking of the Lousitania and the Susseux by u-boats.

  • @Joeygame1018 the notes to mexico i believe where sent in ww2 not ww1. But im not sure. The sinking of those ships aren't the main reasons we jumped into the war.

  • @wiliesan just had a lesson on ww1, the notes were in that time period.

the ships might not have been the main cause, but it did sway a lot of public opinion, especially due to yellow journalism and such

  • @Joeygame1018 K well i just have to check it out my self. Not saying ur wrong so dnt take it the wrong way. well journalist have played a lot in every war so i dnt doubt your info on that is incorrect

  • @Hpraetzel yea its of my opinion, even as an american, that the Russians don't get enough credit. They lost more men in ww2 than america and england combined.

  • @samtheironman95 I love America. It's my home. It's where my family lives. I just dislike the warmongering imperialist corporate plutocracy currently in power.

  • @unclebanana okay

  • @cwood4ever

Axis was WW2, our enemies in WW1 were the Central Powers. and selling stuff to both sides is what we were doing, til Germany opened up unrestricted warfare using submarines trying to stop supply to the Allied powers. In fairness to Germany they did put out warning not to board ships in USA newspapers, but that's what got us involved. So it wasn't as though Wilson just sent troops over, besides were there less than 1 year

  • @unclebanana guys i was kidding it was a joke!

  • The USA should never have gotten involved in WW1. It was none of our business. We should have just sold weapons to both the allies and axis. Made some money while Europe killed themselves off.

  • if only franz ferdinand stayed out of sarajevo every conflict the world can trace its orgins from ww2 and world war 2 was started by unfinished business of the first world war think about it one bullet from an assasin plunged the world into 100 years of inconsistant fighting but i guess if it hadnt been then it would have happend eventualy

  • Love the song, and I'm very patriotic... very pro-military.

BUT this particular song (despite how great it sounds) has a horrid origin... World War One was an unnecessary conflict, and the United States wanted nothing to do with it. Woodrow Wilson, after campaigning to keep us out of the war, sent the US army to Europe as a power-grab (really as the last stage of his plan to bankrupt the British Empire).

This song was meant as pro-war propaganda (Wilson was obsessed with propaganda).

  • heard a pacifist's parody with words:" we won't come back; we'll be buried over there."

  • @ruderival

if you think this is bad, you would be appalled at Lady gag's videos and Miley Cyrus's new music video...

  • @ruderevival Ummm, it was written in support of us having just gotten involved in a world war... propaganda is par for the course, and without people signing up to fight, we lose, and the Germans take over France.

  • @ruderevival This song is disgusting?

I've listened and read the lyrics 10X over, can't find anything disgusting or gross.

It's propaganda, if this is the worst you've heard you haven't looked far at all.

  • @volvicBIRDS "Johnny get your gun, get your gun" that in and of itself is gross. Its promoting war and destruction, and telling young kids to want to fight.

  • @ruderevival do you understand the circumstances surrounding this song? It appears that you are unaware of the history behind it. I have no problem with people being against war, but WWI was one of the wars wroth fighting.

  • @cachamelion Was it? I dont think so. 1 guy gets shot, one country blames it on another and declares war, then that countries allies get involved, and then the other countries allies get involved, and it eventually leads to a massive and terribly destructive war encompassing all of Europe. Sounds like a a stupid freaking waste of time, completely blown out of proportion to me.

  • @ruderevival Blown out of proportion.. yes. However, under the circumstances the United States did have to intervene given the potentially devastating effects that the war could have had. By which I mean hundred of millions dead and an utter destruction of Europe.

  • this song began the strong bond between the US and the UK

  • True piece of History, The Yanks rule!

  • WWII was my favorite war!

  • They use this for The Men's National Team in soccer.

  • This song always gives me chills just thinking about what happened on the Western Front. Machine guns, trenches, and the near certain death most any troop told to take a trench would face when charging. And that's before we mention the gas. Not to say the Eastern Front and others weren't as horrible or worse, but so much death so easily for so little...

  • @joswie Still catchy though

  • my great grandfather said he masturbated to this song until he got trenchfoot

  • i rapped this in my history class for bonuss:)

  • BEAUTIFUL THE SONG AND THE MARCH

  • THE YANKSSS ARE COMINGGGGG.

  • @MentalicMike90 thats what she said

  • My US history teacher showed us a bunch of propaganda songs today. this was the first we listened to c:

  • my teacher played this a few months ago. our schools getting redone so they had investors coming into school when they waked down the hall we were singing "Over There, Over There, Send the word, Send the word, Over There. That the yanks are coming! The yanks are coming!"

  • i can play this song on the trumpet! i love this song. then again, i love all military marchs

  • matchhead, you are a donkey, be quiet and go back down mums cellar

  • I love propaganda, you make me laugh. Wew are a socialist country.

  • I can remember my Grannie singing parts of this song. She lost two brothers in WWI. They were all from WV. I was going to Germany in 1986 to visit. She was still bitter about the War's.

  • we sang this today

  • we sang this is S.S. class today i like the song

  • and we won't come back till it's over, over there.

anybody in the Obama white house know those words. No an exit strategy, not a retreat,

we'll be over, and we won't come back till it's over, over there.

we have the greatest fighting force in the world. and young men and women who are proud to wear their uniform, for god's sake, let them do their job...

  • @RDRobertDeane NorthWest Indiana Patriots are using this to tell our lazy politicians that WON'T LISTEN to us now....that we are shouting the Patriots are saying It ain't over until we get them out as we will "REMEMBER COME DECEMBER"!! It ain't over, (in Washington) until we FLIP THE HOUSE!

NorthWest Indiana Patriots are "Silent no More"!

God Bless George M. Cohan that his song is still alive and has GREAT MEANING!

  • @RDRobertDeane just one question Mr. Supreme General. Who are we going against?

I hate war.. mostly because their a bunch of willing virgins who can't wait to get their dick blow off.

  • @snowwolf7777 want to know who REALLY hate war? the solders, from the private on up to the top. No on in their right mind loves war. but sometimes it is necessary, even to protect whiners like you.

  • Comment removed

  • @snowwolf7777 yes, whiner, an not that it's any of your business, but 68-71, which is why I probably hate war more than most people. and physically disabled thanks to that war. btw, how about checking your typing (I really have no respect for someone who doesn't even know the difference between "their" and "they're". real bright. I'm thrilled that you are you are so supportive of our troops....a good feeling, alr'm ight, just like walking through the SanFrancisco airport in uniform in 1970.

  • Comment removed

  • @RKDiamond Let me guess, you were in W's drinking parties in Texas. Set on your ass all day and complaining about people not being patriotic.

Try wearing the uniform over sea during 2005, so much for the collation of the willing. So Grampa, your final happy you got your parade, but you can't have a single generation that not touch by war, could you?

  • @snowwolf7777 yep, I know you. barely made it through high school, can't spell (try having a dictionary next to you, whiner. maybe understand the difference between "their" and "they're", or "your and "you're"). the military took you. but probably threw you out when they deterined that you couldn't even make their standards, called it "for the good of the service". . and wearing the uniform overses? hmmm, was that germany? or maybe korea?

  • @RKDiamond Wow, are two biggest bases, how did you guess? Since you don't want to be nice.

It's not my fault your generation can't fight a war, but at least you got free pot.

Do you remember the early cobras, those wonderful coppers that could rain hell?

  • @snowwolf7777 snow, I was wrong to let myself get sucked into your world of self-hatred. I should not argue with you, you shold have our help. I hope that you will be able to come out of your angry world; I have seen this all too often and should have recognized it sooner. As a veteran, please go to your local VA, seek their assistance. They are good at that and will help you. And I truly hope that you will someday find the peace in your own personal world.

  • @snowwolf7777 ps "you served"? not making light of them, but the salvation army? probably....

  • @RDRobertDeane Hey. Do you know how many young Americans have died in the MiddleEast? The war should have ended ages ago. They should focus on strategic bombing. It's easier, safer AND less Americans will die.

  • @RDRobertDeane American Military Deaths in Iraq Total In Combat

    Since war began: 4405 3490

    Since 5/1/2003: 4266 3382 Official Estimated

    Total Wounded: 31844 100000+

  • @ryanlim2002 I sincerely hope that I will NEVER ever depend on you for anything, nor that our county will ever have to depend on you. You really remind me of the whiny little brats who want everything handed to them. Yes, I want the boys to come home and I am just as furious that they haven't, I am even more furious that they are being prevented from doing their job. Don't think for a moment, little whiner, that I don't believe that one death in war is too many. .

  • @RDRobertDeane ya but china can draft like 1/15 of its populace and just step on us like were a ant. do to an overwhelming force of course.

  • @Gwakacaca

And if they tried to invade us, the entire world would take up arms. Alot of the world may not like us, But they prefer us and their freedom over Being communist.

  • @RDRobertDeane Times have changed. The first wars were looked at in pride by the general public. But after Korea, things changed. I dono, I kind of agree with the song the priest in the show M*A*S*H wrote. "What were we ever singing for?" Why should we be proud at our ability to rob fellow humans of their lives. Is that really something worthy of pride?

  • @RDRobertDeane it is inposible to fight a idea unless you breed it out or batter them to hell untill they get it out of thier heads

  • but were to afraid to take it to civillians

  • @RDRobertDeane Until it's "over over there"? Are you aware the war going on isn't a conventional war like world war one was? It's an insurgency. It's -never- going to be over. Why are you okay with a perpetual state of war?

  • Freedom is not free.

  • Here's what I have to say on the subject. Everyone can have different opinions, that's the whole thing about America, "Land of Free" But, when you start getting disrespectful to the Country, or the presidency, or anyone representing the antion is when people need to stop. It's not right. It doesn't matter what views you have, you still show respect when stating your opinion.s It's just what you should do, or you look like a child.

  • Nation, not antion. My mistake:)

  • I like this song i also picked this song for my powerpoint for my US history gov. B lol

artwork and artist and poems different lol haha btw i like this song

  • btw i love america just not this song.

  • umm if you know the history of this song youd understand why its such a bullshit song. this song got a shitload of good american people to go fight in world war 1 or in other words the meaningless war. its not a patriotic song at all. listen to One by mettallica then you'll understand more. it has to do with a movie called johnny get your guns that shows the bullshit of world war one. get ur facts straight bro.

  • Comment removed

  • If it wasn't for this song to get America into the War, well alot more people would have died in those trenches. Because we arrived "Over There" the War ended. If we hadn't who knows how long it would have lasted.

  • @kmaneke lol 100 percent right

  • @BroSebastian This is a very patriotic song, In WW1, while i dont believe the war was truly the fault of Germany rather Russia and France, we fought against Germany for insulting and threatening our nation. It was not a pointless war, it was a war to defend Democracy from Monarchy.

The only pointless part of the war was the Treaty of Versailles which directly led to the Rise of Hitler, WW2, and the Holocaust. Damn Frenchies and Brits always causing wars.

  • I know im gona get so many hate comments that are paragraphs that im not going to read and so many thumbs down but wow America, I love you. This is a great country. I love America. I have freedom. I can do what I want and write what i want. dont post some response saying your country isnt the only free country D: cause I know. I am glad to live where ican express myself and my pride and love for my country and how many thumbs down or responses i get you wont change this proud american.

  • This is a reason im proud my great grandpa fought in that war. You dont here that anymore.

  • God bless america

  • The good old days someone mentions below was when we had no voice in anything and we had heroin addicts then too. Oil was cheaper. The government now injects and tortures American service men. I was Forced into retirement at the FDIC, terminated, the criminals control the banking system. THe prior regional director was shot in his head in his office in San Francisco. Search for Mobile Audit Club on Google and see my intro video as the FBI stops my investigative journalistic endeavors.

  • no comment necessary.

  • i agree

  • From the good old days when america wasn't hated across the globe. Great song!

  • The flag looks like it's being shot.

  • This s0ng i part of 0ur musical for sch00l, s0 i kn0 evr w0rd!!!!!!! haha l0l

  • no country like 'merica! lol

  • Why would you hate the country? What reasons spurs such emotion?

  • My class listened to this a couple days ago, seems to be a popular video for teachers haha

  • This is Billy Murray singing! In 1917.

  • this is billy murray singing, but cohan wrote it in like 1914, and he sang it in the 20s and 30s

  • i like this song

heard it in US. hist. class like 2 times

  • we listened 2 this song in social studies class 3 times.....

  • r u in MIchigan?

  • Feel free to get out then.

  • I can understand the frustration that makes you say that. Just don't confuse hating what some people in the country do with hating the country itself.

  • I hate what this country has done. At some point I can no longer blame the individuals when the entire country rubber-stamps their deeds with inaction. Examine, as a random example, Reagan selling missiles to Iran to fund a counterrevolution in Nicaragua (in direct violation of Congress' direction not to use public funds for said conflict). Or supporting the Israeli occupation of Gaza. Or killing civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan in two wars without causes.

  • Despise? Why? What reasons would cause you hate the nation itself?

  • Well my friend I will tell you why. I do not hate American in the sense of like "Death to American" but in my own way. They support Israel. They pay a country to terrorize innocent people. Do you know how many died in the gaza thing just a little while ago? Around 6000 people, almost half of them being kids and babies? So tell me my friend, why should I not hate america? They kill my people for no reason at all. Some would call it self defense but thats all american media junk.

  • i remember i watched a movie about george cohan last yr :D

    go USA!

  • tell me if its this movie that u saw was it "Yankee Doodle Dandy"

  • lol propaganda in the morning that halarius.

    song pretty catchy to

  • lol my ss teacher makes us listen to tbis everyday!

  • this song is great, i cant believe i just heard about it.

  • MY FAVORITE SONG

  • Mmmmmmn I love the smell of propaganda in the morning

  • A nerdy way of procrastination..... I read the song title in my US history book (for World War I) and just had to see how the march sounded! ^_^

  • Haha! I JUST did the same thing!

  • i can see that im not alone..... who looked this song up after reading history book :D:D D:DD ::D D:D over there :D:D:DD:

  • haha, i dnt read the history book but my teach showed us a movie of George cohan and now im addicted to the song

  • HAHA ME TOO

  • my social teacher had us march around the room to this and salute him

  • OMG

    us too

except he made us answer queistions

  • my social studies teacher made us sing this for an extra 5 points on our grade

  • Johnny got his gun...

  • grampa stewarts favorite song vet of ww1 and ww2

  • Yes that's the author singing his own song. He sang most of his songs on vaudeville stages.

  • Ack, I'm wrong - I was thinking of another song. This is sung by Billy Murray in 1917. (Geez, you can't edit your own comments on YouTube?)

  • no kidding. i know what you mean.

  • rest0201 and pruett365 youre both right

those were the two events that made us join the war, but the mexican thing was not a lajit threat, mexico was in no shape to try to battle the US at that time, and our ship had some war stuff on it, just both of those acts just pissed us off

  • No, he wrote it.

  • The U.S didn't get involved till the German navy sunk the Lusitanian the had U.S civilians aboard. That ended the U.S's isolationist's policy and started the U.S to be a super power

  • That's actually a common misconception. The U.S. joined the war when the British intercepted the Zimmerman telegram, a message from the German High command, urging Mexico to go to war with the U.S. when the U.S. would ever join the allies by itself. By the way, we did have another isolationist policy right before WW2, except the U.S. was more pro-ally that time.

  • that's with the Germans right? We were already in the war, with Japan

  • I think another reason for the US going into WW1 was to protect its substantial economic interests in Great Britain.

  • Indeed, there were many reasons. The public was spoiling for a fight and all hung up on the moral issue of aiding our allies as well as the economists who knew that our allies were our allies for a reason, good economic relations. The Zimmerman note was just the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back.

  • Wilson was re elected in 1916 on the platform he kept us out of war, one month after his second inauguration be asks congress for a declaration of war against Germany....and got it.

  • bottom line we had just cause to go into every conflict and war we have entered I am including Vietnam and Korea due to the fact the domino effect has been proven correct look at terrorism

  • War of 1812? Fighting so you could kept trading with Napoleon?

Nobody should pretend there country was always right, because it crate belief that the country can never be wrong.

  • as long as humans continue to exist, war is something that will continue to occur. It is something that is inevitable and america was forced into this conflict so don't say you want to slap president wilson. sneauxangel, ur so stupid. read ur history for once before declaring such a pointless opinion.
