@rahmanashah Those bits would be pretty much out of date in the 2010s, being about the civil rights movement, the hippy movement and Students for a Democratic Society. I'm sure Kanye wanted to make an album about the 2010s instead of the 1960s.
I understand the significance of his work, but in this day and age, is this just reverse racism. Do Scott-Heron's words speak of equality or the gaining of vengeance for the mistakes of the past? In a brief summation of his work it seems to me he speaks of a revolution of overthrowing current ways, like the reverse of american slavery.
@radmano77 I wouldn't call it reverse racism, because Mr. Heron is not calling for vengeance. He is calling for an end to the facade of reconciliation between the races being 'integration'. To him it's just a euphemism for 'stop being people of color. Be more white. Stopping being exotic and unique. Be like the rest of us white folk, and we'll not hate you.' He would not have his people integrate. He would have them separate until words like integration mature to mean two coexisting spheres.
@radmano77 -___________- I don't even know where to begin with this foolish comment, Like are you fucking serious? I don't want to believe you are. You have to know what goes around comes around--Yahweh's chosen people are still being oppressed so yeah white people (the beast) WILL be slaves to the so-called-black people; GET OVER IT!
Wow, I'm a huge Kanye fan and yeah, he put me on to this, but underneath the likes, why does it say Kanye is the artist, when It's Gil Scott-Heron. Don't get me wrong I love Yeezy, but give Gil Scott some credit.
You are missing the whole point. Hate won't fix anything. Never has; never will .. you should know that better than most... Have we tossed Martin Luther King?
If you want to know the true American spirit; look for "The American Way" on my channel. Just click on my name ya ...
@pbatusa these cries of 'The American Way' are that much more ironic, considering the violent beginnings of this country. We are what we've sown, and to try and paint over it with some hokey 'love one another' bullshit is dismissive and uninformed. 'The American Way' is slavery, exploitation, theft, manipulation and greed.

@EntityOpaque Students for democratic society. According to him in this video they were weekend revolutionaries really trying to legalize pot and not have to go to Vietnam, when they really don't feel his pain since they will end up taking their degree's back to the suburbs and forget all their problems of the inner city. He says it all in the video, listen to it again carefully, it's some deep SH!T
I can understand the anger, but hate is hate, still there is a poets soul there and that begs for forgiveness, absolution and transcendence for all things great and small. We are all slaves now to a few ; united we will prevail, divided we will fail. Its more about class now then color, rest in peace my human brother.
I'm not going to be one of those people that acted like I loved off Gil Scott-Heron when he was alive, because I didn't. To be honest, I've only heard of him from being featured in hip hop songs. I'm not big into poetry and spoken word, but I love this performance, so am paying my respects. RIP.
im so devastated. everyones going to praise him and act like they loved him now that he's gone. People need to appreciate things while they're still around. not when they've passed on.
Personally, I appreciate the SDS (Students for a Democratic Society)'s support of the civil rights movement, and their support of the Black movement. (Aside from the violence/bombings they've been tagged to).
My god, I came because of Kanye's sampling, but I'm definitely going to buy this man's work! He is the rawest, most understanding poet of his kind I have ever heard! A masterpiece!
Kanye's excerpt from his track "Who will Survive in America?" is so relevant. Great cut on that track. i can listen to it over and over. But this original is just delivered with such power and voice. Hard not to sigh sometimes.
