Czech (along with a lot of other languages, to my preference Slavic) is such a beautiful language. I personally think it's relatively easy because I can associate it with Russian (I started learning it around 2 years ago until switching to Czech). Yet, Czech is a very rich and complex language in structure and quality. It's not very easy "getting away" with just a few phrases or made up sentences (English is easier in that aspect), I think. Nevertheless, it's totally worth it giving it a try.
I'm Polish and I can speak Czech and English, so from my experience I would say that it was more easy to learn Czech than English. The reason for this is because Polish and Czech are Slavic languages, so believe me there is not such a thing like the most difficult language in the world!
You're from Latvia, right? So no wonder you're fluent in Russian. I'm just pointing out that it's much easier to understand Slavic languages for someone who's fluent in at least one Slavic language, whether it's Russian, Czech, Polish or Slovak.
As far as I know, Slavic languages, especially Czech, are very hard to learn for most foreigners. I can tell that from my personal experience.
Alright, but since you're fluent in Russian, it makes it much easier to learn other Slavic languages. Seriously, do you think that Czech is easy to learn for Americans...or English? I don't think so...
Jen jim nelžete, v popisu je uvedeno, že čeština je jednoduchá, přiznejte si sama, že pro leckteré Čechy je k nepochopení, natož pro cizince!
I can tell just one think to foreigners. I don´t wanna to make someone worried, but in fact Czech language is one of the most difficult languages in the world! Just imagine aspect of the verb, 7 falls, letter Ř and many other things! So speak Czech and you will be able to speak in anything!
Yeah, Slavic languages are way more difficult than whatsoever in this world. My native language is Russian, I can nearly perfectly understand Ukrainian, can pick up some phrases in Polish and read it too partially. But I just cant make any sense when it comes to Czech:)
OMG there is not such a thing like the most difficult language in the world!!! It all depends where you from! If you are polish it will be much easier to learn Czech for you :/ But if you are English it will be harder but languages like French, German etc.. are more easy for English speakers!
Czech language is difficult because there have Ř and also the accents of the characters no tell ye where to even see the hooks and accents over the letters and ourselves when we do this little problem Ř

Thanks for the excellent video. I like your pronunciation of "jak se máš." My father was Czech and I was raised in a Czech community in America (Texas), though I never learned the language thoroughly. This is the only way Czechs in Texas greeted each other (I was a little confused by the other site). I look forward to going through all your excellent podcasts. You speak the words very clearly. Thanks again!!
IMPORTANT NOTE(someone else wrote this on a different website.):
"In the Czech Republic you'd never say to a stranger "jak se máš". This is the singular, or informal form that you only use with a friend or child. The formal form (or when addressing more than one person) is "jak se máte"."
It's also slavic, as is Ukrainian and Russian, and I know Ukrainian(not fluently) and a bit of Russian. I've noticed some words are very similar! Such as: dobre=good in Ukrainian yak=how dyakoyou=thank you these words are very similar.
I wish I could just go study in Europe and learn all the major languages there, including this one! : )
I dont speak Czech yet but I do Russian which helps but I can almost recite Marta Kubizove songs exactly although I dont know the meanings of the words. Love Modlitba pro Martu!

Well I'm czech, but I wasn't born there, but all of my father's side was. My grandparents spoke czech and taught me a couple words here and there, like šunka and doopa :P
@Godja doopa - to mi připomíná babiččino (z otcovy strany) "pořádně si vetře pořádně ďopo". To jsem slýchával jako malý kluk a je to v hanáckém dialektu, takže to "e" je nutno číst jako "a" v angl. slově "can" a "o", které nahrazuje české "u" je široké.
@beast6228 Where origin your grandparents from? I know word "doopa" from my grandma as hanák dialect word but with wide "o" instead of "oo" and soft d (ď, dj).
Hey Godja, u gotta learn English a lot! U t*a*l*k*s*h*i*t people in ur country and the comment u wrote is absolutely incorrect! We say "Have u ever been TO The Czech Republic? I think u 'll be dissapointed because Czechs' English is horrible" Right? Btw: Czech is a very interesting language...!
No, I guess that Czechs' English is not THAT horrible :-D Who pay attention at school they can speak quite well. In each country you could find good speakers and also the bad ones...
Thats true, not many EN people speaks another language. But the poor Czechs have no other chance if they want to be able to communicate. So you learn CZ? Brave decision. I have fighted with EN quite a long time and it is super easy compared to CZ (luckily I am Czech so I do not have to learn it iupiiiii)
that's a good reason to learn another language - to be able to communicate.
learning another language is hard and our native languages are easy because we grew up with them.

In fact when I had to learn EN at school the results were quite poor. I learnt it only later when I finally decided that I want to. And now I need it at my work as well. Recently I started with romanian as my boyfriend is RO - but no big probress, we speak EN all the time.
