  • Is the whole show on youtube?

  • @FreshHex i wish man, i've had the full recording for years now, but ahve never managed to find more video than this...

  • get the full peel session NOW.

    IT RULES GOD DAMMIT

  • YES! AHH this is good music.

  • drummer needs a good brain to memorise all that shit

  • @WaterlyTom he doesnt really memorize anything, mostly when to start and when to stop. but sometimes they make it up on the spot

  • @otherside65 Not even the basslines?

  • @GrungeRockabilly what basslines?

  • @otherside65 Actually he does. He's an insanely well trained musician. They may jam out at shows here and there but I've seen them a couple times now and they will even have some of the same "jam" sections in between certain songs.

  • LOITNEEN BOULT

  • fking great sound,...smash the shit outa that kit and feedback that sound into my headphones........the world owes peely a 'thankyou',..if u could do anything with conviction, john would give you airtime,...fantastic man, much missed.

  • The video on my player froze but the music kept going.... the speed of their hands is too fast for youtube!

  • I went completly mental when they started playing 2moro moro land ... asp0ifh 0iwqhr ´210ig 9wqgawih eqw0ieh q0eh 1209e h12eoiasjisajio w{oihx 120oe h1209e h10h 12e0o12h e0o1h2

  • all is improvised?

  • @iiimissyouu

yup and first time they've touched instruments, pretty good huh!

  • Does he have guitar strings on a bass?

  • @mw2727

think i remember reading somewhere that he uses banjo strings on his bass

  • @mw2727 Just a few banjo strings because he tunes his bass in fifths like a cello.

  • best start ever!

  • why is this not complete!!>?!?!?!?!

  • Both these guys are fucking nuts. I love it.

  • breathing room!!!

  • Overwhelmed please help

  • Amazing. They were great at ATP last year too, finished the weekend off perfectly. 2Morro Morro Land is a tune.

  • This is what Radio 1 needs more of these days. The only live sessions you can hope to hear now are from anaemic bastards like The Script. I cannot believe the sheer audacity of the BBC to even consider shutting down 6 music when it's near the only station that can honestly say that it plays anything even closely resembling music.

  • @Mushman34 they ought to give Tom Ravenscroft the ten o'clock slot vacated by Colin Murray and currently occupied by the vapid Nick Grimshaw. the old Peel slot.

  • they know how to play theirs instruments?

  • @crashbreakerr lol wut

  • @crashbreakerr c'mon man, Chippendale FTW, and if you play any better (HAHA) upload a video

  • Chipendale has the Devil in him!

  • You've got to hear this full session. Google it, they do like 7 long songs.

    Mabye their best recording.

  • is Gibson wearing a Beatles wig?

  • This is the track to the film ex-drummer

  • fucking fastest tightest drummer in existance

  • Noise has nothing to do with brutality.

BTW, noisegrind(anal cunt) , harsh noise(merzbow) and some raw black metal(enbilulugugal) bands SUCK, because they are talentless.

But I still listen to them, hardly ever.

  • Note how he says Lighting Bolts 0:20

  • I wonder how many drumsticks the drummer break per year.

  • Over 9000.

  • holy crap, just found these guys, i actually went "fuck!" out loud. reminds me of the first time i heard the locust, just insane

  • @Gavbacca finally someone else gives Gibson some credit. Lets see any normal bassist play the main riff on On Fire.

Manda cojones.

  • Why does everyone forget about Brian Gibson. He is far one of the most underrated bassist. he shreds. as far as chippendale's drumming. it wouldnt be half as god without the bass. and vice cersa for the drums. chippendale is way better than Gabe, as wells as more creative.

  • TeaBitch89, he is the best drummer ever. personally i am a drummer and i have been for a number of years, it is not a "simple beat" its the most fucking complicated rhythm ever, but its PERFECTLY on beat, like i actually took a metronome and timed him. True, any drummer can play really fast and randomly but few can play it on beat and for a WHOLE concert.

  • @ hotxleperd He is far from the best drummer ever...and I'm a huge lightning bolt fan. What makes Brian Chippendale so awesome is the fact that he plays fast at all times during long-ass shows. He's good at fills, but TeaBitch89 is correct in saying that Gabe from The Locust is better.

  • That couldn't be further from the truth.

All drummers are different, musicians understand this, show offs don't.

As far as technical ability, really?

And as far as creating an atmosphere and "being" the sound, not just imitating something, I mean like "come on".

  • @lostfeelinggonegone you clearly have never heard of Gabe Serbian.

  • @TeaBitch89 you are correct in saying Gabe is better. Check out my Locust drum covers if you have the time ;-)

  • I saw lightning bolt at the echo in LA a few years ago. It was insaine! drummer was in my face and he kept spitting at people. So many cool hipsters spazing out every where.

  • i have seeing them in denmark. Amasing concert.

My dad took the drummers stiks and played in the drumset. everybody was laughing. So derefore. allways drink and drum at the same time.

  • Your dad played his drumset?

  • yes. the drummer needed at break so my daddy took the sticks and started playing

  • OMG the drummer is amazing

  • jajajajajajajajajajajajajajaja me gusta mucho jajajajajajajaja

  • music... lightning bolt, if you didn't read the title

  • seeing them tonight in salford kiddy winks. can. not. wait. 1 hour and counting.

  • Love them, best live set i ever saw. Bruising all round, thanks x

  • RIP

  • They're not dead, or even broke up! They're coming out with a new record, like, this week!

  • RIP most likely refers to John Peel...

  • amazing as always

  • this video gives you serious blue balls

  • okey...his rich now

  • this is simply crazy

  • Insane.

  • its like give a bass and a drum to the sons of the devil

  • douchebagitable did you just diss gentle giant? must i have to skull fuck you now until you stop being a pretentious music douche?

  • OCTOPUS!

  • I'm pretty sure my mind just exploded.

  • I don't think anybody should argue about any music. They should like what they like, and dislike what they dislike, but keep those opinions to themselves. Lightning Bolt is classified as "Noise Rock." Not a very popular or beloved genre. Still, even though it's different, it shouldn't be considered degenerate.

  • opps wrong thumb

  • You've got to see this band live. It's the only way. It's like PURE ENERGY. Totally remarkable.

  • @jfc999

They came to Detroit last summer and played with Wolf Eyes. I swear, I think they brought a demon into the venue that night. I'm pretty sure I was crying by the end of their set, but I cant remember. It was such a blur....

...Oh, and In the middle of "Sound Guardians", they overloaded they buildings fuse box, and shorted out the whole room for about 10 minutes. I thought that was pretty cool.

  • @jfc999 Right.... I imagine it's like seeing Nirvana in 1991 before they got huge. Just the freedom you feel. You feel free to dance and do whatever the music makes your body feel. It's amazing. And it's not just you it's the whole crowd.

  • @jfc999 Yeah man , I hear ya. Never seen em but seen plenty of their live clips. Look AWESOME!

  • @jfc999

This. It is an absolute wall of noise. One of those bands "you have to see before you die". Amazing. Had me hanging on for dear life at times. See them, now.

  • @jfc999 Stoned, Drunk or Sober?

  • @AlfoRock12 Doesn't really matter. I swear there was some kind of strange energy field surrounding the drummer Brian Chippendale when he got off stage.

  • @jfc999 I NEED to see Lightning Bolt live any day... i hope that they come to Chile any day ;).

  • @jfc999 You're damn right.. No band in the world has as much performance energy as Lightning Bolt.

  • Are you being serious? I may have respected your opinion more if you name dropped King Crimson...but Gentle Giant and Genesis (I do like Invisible Touch). I think you're missing the point here...and honestly you should probably just stop dissing Lightning Bolt. Whats the point. Nobody gives a shit what you think anyways, sport.

  • Seems to me you've never heard any song of theirs besides this one. And that you have no perception of what the noise genre is. And that you generally have no idea what you're talking about. Yeah, this isn't accessible, its a niche song from a niche band. Actually, this performance in particular is pretty poor compared to some of their other stuff. But you wouldn't know that because you watched 10 seconds of this video and made a broad generalization about the band as a whole.

  • ALL MUSIC MUST CONFORM TO THE SAME FORMATIONS.

ALL BANDMEMBERS MUST RESEMBLE THE "HIPPY" ARCHETYPE.

    NOTHING MAY EVER CHANGE.

    NOTHING MAY EVER PROGRESS.

NOTHING NEW, JUST THE "SAME 'OL, SAME 'OL"

    AND PREFERRABLY WHITES ONLY.

I think I have an idea "about what [you're] talking about."

  • Haha, you just insinuated Brian Chippendale didn't know how to drum - and that Brian Gibson didn't know how to play bass.

    That's a pretty good one.

Too bad they don't just play two chords and sing songs about smoked cheese.

That'd prove they knew music - and you know, just be so overwhelmingly great in general.

  • It's fascinating how Brian G. is so calm and collected during this audio nuclear bomb while Brian C. is fucking ALL OVER THE PLACE

  • Brian C's stamina is out of this world!

  • I know like what the hell... It's basically like an hour of constant gnarlyness and he can totally do it.

  • John Peel. LEGEND. LB one of the best live bands you'll ever see.

  • thats good im goin to see them this weekend

  • Im sorry...but I just dont digg them

  • Who's the bald John Peel guy? Seems like a nice fellow

  • JOHN PEEL. he played a Prosthetic Cunt 7" on BBCradio1 the year he died, booked bands like this in his house and all anyone ever talks about is fucking pulp and talking heads.

  • torcido y deskisiado...

    no hay mas sinonimos

  • Ha, i always get thrown off the college drum kit, for trying to play like that.

  • no you dont. you actually couldnt play drums like that to save your life.

  • im not a drummer.

  • obviously...

  • Hey, your boring.

  • @zemechanism I love you for this comment.

  • @zemechanism cryin shame.

  • It amazes me that there was once a time that I didn't think this music was brilliant.

  • not many words to describe how jelous i am of people in that room. the late john peel and lightning bolt. why oh why......look at that bastard go. cant even see his individual strokes thanks to the quality of the vid

  • You know you could always trust the late great St. John Peel.

  • hahaha

  • whats the song name?

  • 2 Moro Moro Land off Hypermagic Mountain.

  • thanks !

  • I feel for their neighbours :D

  • look at chippendale beating the fuck outta his drums.

    shit.

  • makes me proud to be from Providence.

  • mike portnoy would own this guy

  • mike portnoy would also like to get fucked in the ass by neil peart bcuz mike steals all of his phils and drum style from neil. at least brain chippendale is original and unique and also fucking owns mike. dream theater is for douche bags and symphony x is 10x better then them. but LIGHTNING BOLT IS KING!!!

  • also brian gibson (the bassist) is the most kickass bassist EVAR!!! he puts banjo strings on his bass making him way more cooler then you and mike portnoy combine.

  • and i play drums so i no wtf im talking about.

  • you play drums yet you have no videos

  • GNproductions13 you need to read a book called "Logic: A Very Short Introduction" by Graham Priest

  • Why?

  • Your sentence was very illogical.

  • Thank you

  • haha no problem, just saying that if he plays drums, doesn't mean he makes videos.

  • Very true, but its not a wise idea to go mouthing off when he has nothing to back it up with. How do we know he's not just a average amateur drummer?

  • doesn't matter how good he is. His shit was illogical too. Playing drums is no proof of knowledge in this case. He's talking about other drummers and how their skills compare. If you play drums or not, it doesn't matter. You just have to know music.

  • His words were "i play drums so i know wtf im talking bout" i think you need to be at a respectable level in drumming to be able to comment like that. Now if it was somebody like "claude" then i would respect them 100% but this guy......sorry friend, no way.

  • It's also illogical to think that just because he "plays drums" means he is the #1 Go-To guy on all things drum related. There millions of drummers in the world.

  • Finally, someone gives Gibson some cred. Dude's fucking sick.

  • Why must it always be who is better then who. Mike Portnoy and Dream Theater are more Progressive Metal, focusing on a bit more classical, structured approach to their music. Lightning Bolt is more abstract and noisy. They are not only 2 completely different styles of music, but also 2 completely different approaches to writing and playing their instruments.

  • yeah but dream theater really really sucks a lot

  • yes

  • @Thelaofkazi Man I was so immature back then

  • I think this was one of the last john peel sessions, i think this was like a week or so after he died

  • John Peel was a genius,he always like it give a chance to the new bands.

  • I have a great MP3 rip of the entire set somewhere. Great quality; would make a great proper release.

  • got that too, but it's one track. Needs splitting.

  • enjoy the rest of your life..

  • This is your brains on drugs.

  • Tony Hawk's?

  • Comment removed

  • john peel still has his show!!! i thought it was long gone

  • it is long gone he's dead...

  • oh okay. i didnt know that thanks for telling me

  • so frustrating when it cuts out at the end... i would like to see the rest.

  • i know right

there's like 40 more mins to it :<

  • 2emHj3qTX9k

  • imense band

also ho awesome was john peel

    RIP

  • Just when you think a band is already insane, a great live video of them prooves you wrong...again.

I love the noise, I love the energy. Amazing band.

  • Brian kicks so much ass.

    Well, both of them xD

  • great song :-)

  • I hope i can't get a heart attack from watching that drummer!!!!!!!!!

  • Does anyone have the rest of this? PPPPPLLLLLLLEEEEEEEAAAAAASSSSSEEEEEE!!!!!!

  • vile house?.I'm sure entwhistle and moon would of lov'd these guys,BRILLIANT M9.

  • long live the laserbeast.

  • bahahaha this band is too awesome for words

  • you really get a sense of just how loud they are and how fast Chippendale actually plays.

  • k this just smashed me something kronic

    got absolutely smashed

    by a song

    luv it

  • Everyone who heard this on the radio went "wtf is wrong with the radio station"

i like that Chippendale is still wearing his helmet/mask on the radio. intense

  • he doesn't wear it for show, it's there to keep the mic in front of his face

  • fuck yea! i want to see more fuckin' bands like this. NO LIMITS is what it's all about.

  • they look strange without a giant horde of people around them.

  • Yeah this is the introtune off Ex-drummer.

    Great Flamisch movie (Belgium).

    Makes the movie even better.

  • God dammit a full video of this MUST exist, I have a recording of this entire show!

  • LOL!!! like what you said... but... no.
