Many thanks Chattycathy13 for your comment - did you notice a very young Bruce Springsteen in the background - he is coming to Hyde Park London on the 14th June - saw him 30 years ago - fantastic!!!!!!!
Re the lovely backup singer - yes cute he is. Best wishes x
The thing is that when these shows are available to see on stage and you are young - you dont ever think that one day you will still be listening to them/watching them on Utube cause the real thing is no longer around. Thank you Utube - you have made the impossible available x
The first time I saw B&W Night on TV I was hypnotized. This line-up of backing musicians is unbelievable and they all adore him (if I can say that). I noticed that
Costello boots Tom Waits off of the piano in one tune, what happened there? Oh yeah, his voice stay amazing all the way thru his career, who can say that?
when i first saw this i figured it was an edited job, taking footage piecing it together with mouth movements matching the lyrics ....cos this is not on my black and white album. i watched it more and i was like DAMN this is a excellent job must of taken a loonnng time but then i read that this was actually performed that magic night LOLOL and was cut from original release - sacrilege! thanks for posting its awesome
@MegaIhateu This was unfort added as a bonus couple years back, unfort not on the cd either thats been re released a hundred times and then we get this extra song, which should have been in the original.....so so good, woulda been nice to find where it landed and fit in with the whole concert.
That was just beautiful. Whenever I listen to this song I can't help but think that John Lennon must have listened to this song constantly. There are certain things that John did when he sang that remind me of this song and performance.
Someone please tell me when this was released, have the whole concert on cd/dvd and have never seen this on any concert version released, would love to know where this fit into the concert and what else they have that wasnt included in the original concert release....man good stuff.
I like every thing from bebop to rock and roll to opera. This trivia question gets my opera friends going: Who are the only two tenors in the 20th century to consistently hit eb above high C?
I`m surprized just how great this later live version of Blue Angel stacks up to the original top 40 hit by Roy. I enjoy it so much so that I actually perfer to listen to this version over the original. This has and is not necessarily the case with this older r&r, where I`d much rather listen to the the top 40 classic then it live. Love songs in particular, newer or older they seem to lack that kick they need to have the same true depth and meaning as in the original. Thx4 postin`
@Ezdduf4kuZ I agree that this sounds better than the original, as do most of the tracks from this concert, especially "pretty woman" the last number in the performance. I can only deduce that not only were the recording techniques improved over earlier years but, most importantly, the backup musicians pretty much were all stars in their own right. Having said all that, it would take a guy like R. O. to get them to work together so well.
@MrOcto8 Do you or does anyone know where this song fit into the concert....would be really nice to piece the concert together so it can be in its whole.
@stvoyager You know, I'd heard a while back that some numbers were not included on the CD or DVD commercial release, so this may be one of those. I did a little digging around and noticed a site that said "up next" was "dream baby", so if you know where THAT song fits into the concert, that would at least be a clue. In any case, just because something says "up next" doesn't mean that it was really the next number in the concert. At some point, I had found the entire concert online but not now
Simply..One if not The Greatest Voices ever! thanks for posting this..hadn't seen it before..for the Blue ray wasn't available when I bought the Concert..guess I will have to update now!
I believe this song was only available in the HD and Blue Ray versions of the DVD, but as a bonus track, not edited back into the full concert. Does anyone know when in the set list Roy performed this song? Just curious.

There's an undertone of homosexuality/pedophilia in his songs. Very triply.

I'm sure the angels aren't "blue" now that Roy is singing with them. They probably put down their harps and horns just to listen to him.

Roy is about as close to perfection as any singer could possibly get.
He never sang a song badly.
Wow!

Roy Orbison was the first musician I ever listened to, starting at 3 years old in 1988. I still listen to him everyday, to this day.
