  • Im learning this form now!!!

  • After Haiwan Uke at the start, which strike is the block combined with? is it a hammer fist or a punch? At first I used to do Uraken, then I punched, but now i'm not sure which strike is used as correct form, obviously you could use either of those things in an application.

  • I'm on this kata! xD I was a green belt in Hopkido lol :3.

  • He should bend his knees more

  • Not necessary...The knees should be bent to the extent in which the practitioner feels stable. If this bending is enough for him, then it is good enough...

  • Just going back to karate after surgery brings back memories.

  • This is the second kata in shotokan my favourite back when i was training as a white n yellow belt :) oos!

  • Supposedly, the style of karate that I practice is the same as the one of the video, but I don't make katas as he does. Movements are different, Im confused in a contest which kata would win? which one is the right one? if someone who knows karate can help me I would be very grateful.

  • @PaulinaSticha Perhaps your karate style is shotokai - I practised this before shotokan, which I started again lately. The emphasis on shotokai seems to be about more fluid movements rather than striking with brute conviction. An easy way to differentiate would be the misconception that shotokai looks like a 'softer' variation of karate compared with shotokan. Does this sound familiar to you?

  • This is beautiful. I'm still fascinated to see that, during a fight, efficient moves are also good-looking. I'd like to do this kata as well as the man in video !

  • Orange, the 7th Kyu is the orange belt.

    Sorry.

  • In our organization Heian Nidan has to be performed at the test for Kyu #7, which is yellow belt in the DJKB(German branch of JKA).

  • great vids, really helpfull, good techinque, dont like his style tho, but thats personal.

  • This has to be one of the hardest kata's. I'm learning this one now ready for my yellow belt. :)

  • @BlueWolf1993x Don't think so my friend, look at others advanced katas and you will see that you were wrong!

  • @MrLOLMaster306 It's a very hard and complicated kata especially when you get to 1:44 lol.

  • @BlueWolf1993x Look at the video of Bassai Dai!!!! Its even harder (almost hardest)! :P

  • @BlueWolf1993x Wait till yo get to Bassi Dai, Osu!

  • @minoux02 Oh god D:

  • @minoux02 FUCKING HELL THAT KATA LOOKS HARD AS FUCK! Do you know what belt your learn that?

  • @BlueWolf1993x you should be doing this for 7th kyu or thereabouts, in our Dojo it's Orange belt or the fourth belt you test for

  • @BlueWolf1993x Blue Advanced Belt

  • @minoux02 There's no blue belt in Shotokan Karate, not in my club anyway's.

  • @BlueWolf1993x There is a blue belt, do you do YMCA Karate?

  • @minoux02 Noo, Shotokan Karate.

  • @BlueWolf1993x officially there is a blue belt in karate, i find it weird that in your club you skip that belt. Are you sure you practice shoto kan?

  • @BlueWolf1993x Hein nidan is for YELLOw belt

  • Thank you for doing it slower the second time really helped, now i know the kata for yellow belt before i take me test just in case, also thanks for helping me with the heian shodan oso

  • passe ma ceinture jaune -orange mardi du coup je revise a fond ! cette video va aussi me servir

  • je l'apprend en ce moment cette video va me servir je m'embrouille dans les rotations rrrr :(

  • I would prefer to see his back foot angled more to the front in zenkutsudachi. He could use his hips to better advantage, n'est-ce pas?

  • I've got to do this at a grading in a few hours.

  • @LEK2129 haha good luck man i just started shotokan yesterday i go again thursday :) i did tae kwon do before i moved and the forms were very long!

  • @XxModernDayRaiderxX Thanks I did pass it! Hope you get on alright at your session tomorrow :)

  • @LEK2129 i never started kata or forms yet but thanx anyway :P

  • excelent

  • i learned this one at white belt, and got better at it at red belt

  • I just started Shotokan Karate-Do i need some help with what the moves are called for this one and Heian Shodan Please and thanxs!

  • @prissy131213 you will get by just fine if you listen to everything

  • @kurtisabc

    thanx

  • One of my favourite kata's. So much easy moves, but very hard to perform it with enough convincing energy. Although I prefer to do kata than fighting.

  • Karate is a joke

  • this kata is so easyyyy

  • @MrRazo0oga Easy to do. Hard to do perfectly.

  • This one is kicking my butt, I didn't qualify for my belt cuz I chocked on this one lol

  • I <3 KARATE SOOO MUCH!! I KNOW THIS OFF BY HEART! TAKES FOREVER TO LEARN THW :L LOL

  • @TheGraceeexx

How long have u been doing it?

  • This Link is me and 2 others from my club performing Heian Nidan, Our Sensei, Rob Manning 4th Dan is watching us and picking any mistakes out and giving us tips (KUGB, SNSKC)

    wwwDOTyoutubeDOTcom/watch?v=_c6cGhqxFFc (Change DOT'S for . )

  • @hanywhatsit. If your brown belt is 24 promotions away then I'm afraid your club is ripping you off for grading fess and prob charging you for belts too. Most clubs only have 10 grades (called kyu's)

  • Comment removed

  • this is my newest kata! =3 don't jujge me, i'm only a white belt yellow stripe T.T

but whatevah! i suck at this kata, but not bragging, it's easier than Heian Shodan- the first kata. haha, i can't wait to lear tekki shodan! it's so cool! of course, that's... like... a brown belt kata witch is tewnty-four promotions away...

  • @hanyiyinghu the frst kata is junino.i know cuz i am a yellow belt and learning heian nidon.orange belt kata is heian shodon

  • I love when one of the 2 top rated comments is a reply to the other.

  • i watched this cuz i had to

  • Gostei muito desse video.

  • he end always in the X again becuz ! is a Pro Karateca xD

  • @AXOL58 10 dan. Karate Master. then you might know a thing or two about standing on an X.

  • My favorite kata ever. Pretty powerful execution here, every move seemed extremely solid. 10/10

  • he's just perfect its like he's drawing the kata a pure artist Thanks a lot it really helped me :)

  • omg it's been sooo long since i've seen shotokan karate! i miss my sensei ed cox(i'm guessing he learned karate because of his name?). the main things are the footing and the breathing.

  • Search for Shakeem's kata to see my heian nidan as a yellow belt

  • @ akatsukigirl... The best tip I can give you on nidan Is to concentrate on the hip movement and stance transition. Practice makes perfect

  • In the 2nd half of the kata the first showing he chambers his left inner block on top the 2nd slower showing he chambers his left on bottom...... oops

  • sport, on a scale of its importance in karate, is all the way at the bottom. self defense is somewhere near the top, while the art of karate itself is always the number one aspect. although sport is used as entertainment, and self defense is a major aspect of maintaining humbleness, the art itself is the embodiment of your teachings. kata, in a way, is part of competition, as it is also a way of practicing self defense methods, and also is part of the art of karate, by keeping the art supported.

  • I just got my orange belt.... but I need to start practicing Heian Nidan already for the yellow. This kata is almost nothing like Taikyoku Shodan and Heian Shodan (which is why it didn't take me long at all to learn Heian Shodan) but considering how much effort I'll have to put into this new kata, I'd like to start earlier.

The thing is, it looks so hard and complicated v.v I. Need. Tips. Please.

  • @AkatsukiGirl29449 i'm a red belt, testing sunday for my orange belt. My sensei taught me this kata, and while it's different than the "shodans", it feels more powerful to me. It's really not that difficult. (the set of 4 knifing blocks after the kiya point are all the same knifing blocks from the last 5 moves of heian shodan). if you have any questions, just ask your sensei. Each area has different specifics. They are teaching outward block instead of scooping block in some areas.

  • @smokekindherb now that I think about it, it's just a matter of doing the moves right. I've memorize most of the moves, but I can't say that I'm doing them 100% correct. I'm glad the orange belts are starting to learn the kata in class now. Learning on my own isn't the best idea XD

  • @AkatsukiGirl29449 I think it's pretty cool that you took the initiative on your own. I'm not that focused, and class is what I need. It also helps to work out the "kinks", like I liked to lean back on backstances, but once it was pointed out, it was easier to correct. Same with hip placement (45 degrees, 90 degrees, etc), as the power comes from the hips and lower body. Good luck to you!!!

  • @AkatsukiGirl29449 Strange because in my dojo orange comes after yellow.

  • I like this video the man doit very well.

    I have got blue belt.

the karate transmitme peace, serenity and force

  • who knows larry martin 10 degree black belt

  • This guys videos are so helpful. I just started taking karate at 20 and its awesome. great cardio and mental work out. I rock at sparring but suck at memorizing the katas.

    I love karate!!!

  • @XxBIoodshotxX LOL, im the opposite. i can memorize katas well but suck at sparring xD

  • great stories I learn about taking the belt :D

  • Different styles of Karate are but different points of view of the same thing. Actually, there are as many styles of Karate as Karate practitioners in the world, because every one of them has his/her own personal Karate, and they all do Karate in different ways. But at their core, they are all the same Karate.

  • das ist kein heian nidan!!!! heian nidan fängt mit dem katzen stand an!!!!

  • @dardan500 unsinn. das ist die heian nidan exakt so wie sie im shotokan karate gelehrt wird.

  • @dardan500 Wo hast du diesen Schwachsinn her? Rede bitte nicht über Dinge, von denen du keine Ahnung hast. Bin selbst mit Leib und Seele seit einigen Jahren Karateka ;)

  • I love all the comments from kids saying "yeah the martial art I do is SOOOO much better"

  • This is awesome Hirokazu Kanazawa!!! Oss.

  • sein Zenkutsu dachi schaut aus, als würde er sein gewicht dauernd nach vorne verlagern :O

  • @SmonzePigen3 dude one of the kata rules is to end at the starting point!

  • @TheSpaceArena ey ... dude I know ;-) I was just amazed about it.

  • @TheSpaceArena yes and it looks easy but it IS NOT

  • @TheSpaceArena It's not really a rule, but is made to end at the starting point

  • @SmonzePigen3 That's what you're meant to do with every kata.

  • i kno these katas =D

  • Just passed my yellow belt test, so might as well start practicing now to get ahead eh?

  • @Endiroth

I'd suggest not rushing it to much. Approach your schools teachings with no preconceived methods; an empty cup as they say. It can be a challenge to not get board with these early katas. Bunkai can keep it interesting for years to come :)

  • @Endiroth What type do you learn? Goju-ryu? Shito-Ryu?

  • @RandomLyrics2010 Actually Shotokan, it focuses more on deep stances, fluid movements and of course lunging movements. It focuses more on power generated from the lower stance.

Goju Ryu focuses on closed ranged fighting with grasping movements.

Shito Ryu for it wide syllabus of Katas, and it's dancing form if you will.

Truthfully Shotokan is my favorite form of Karate compared to the others, as it's more .. well, let's just say in a fight I much rather go for the one hit ko.

  • @Endiroth Well I'm in Goju-Ryu and we focus more on chi flow. So our attacks are much greater which means it would be a 1 hit ko too

  • @RandomLyrics2010 RandomLyrics2010, all Karate styles pursue the 1 hit ko, not only Goju Ryu, it has always been the final goal for any Karate student, whatever style he/she does. But sadly many schools, specially Shotokan and Kyokushin schools, focused on competition, and forgot about the more traditionals aspects of Karate. But there still some Shotokan schools, like the Kase Ha, that still pursue this objective.

  • @18100Heath 1 shotokan team almost got Shikaku because of one parent.

  • This is soo easy that i could just die, but not yet because its soooo hard

  • @sassidownunder. Yeah I know what you mean. Unfortunately some clubs have unnecessary belts to try and take more money from students. Most use 10 different belts and miss 1 colour. For example we use (in this order) White, red, orange, yellow, green, purple, purple striped, brown, brown striped and black. We don't use blue but as we enter competitions, we use red and blue.

  • Thank you very much - this is my 4th kata it really helps to be able to see it "broken down"!

  • @ sassidownunder

Traditional Shotokan karate. Registered with the wka (welsh karate association) and Uktkf (united kingdom traditional karate federation) under the JKA (japan karate association) and sensai kowasoe.

  • @cchopkins ah okay...i'm doing shotokan karate too but we don't have a red belt.

but a friend of mine is doing enshin karate and i'm pretty sure they do have red belts there^^

geez it's so confusing, it seems like everyone is doing slightly different things even though they do the same kind of karate.

  • this kata is for red belt to go to yellow

  • @bughippy. In our club (under sensai kawasoe it goes White, red, orange, yellow, green, purple, purple stripe, brown, brown 2 brown stripe then black. Passed my orange to yellow using this kata today. So less of the moron and understand different clubs and styles use different colour schemes for grading

  • @cchopkins You shouldn't be commenting on a s.k.i video where that is the order.

  • @cchopkins are you doing enshin karate?

  • It's always interesting to see the small variations from one school to another. My Heian Nidan has a slightly different order of chudan shuto ukes after the nukite strike. We also do slow, ibuki breathing on the last two gedan ukes leading into the godan ukes.

  • Does this Sensei also have a video of Taikyoku Shodan to view?

  • Good old Heian Nidan...

  • first: Tayoko Shodan

    second: Haian Shodan

    Third: Heian Nidan

  • I need advice.....I just started taking classes and because the adults don't go through the very first classes (they are just little kids in it), I am totally lost. Can someone please tell me what videos I can watch that are just the very beginning steps?

  • @PrpleWeeble I'm working towards my 2nd belt (I'm from the UK- don't know if its diffrent wherever you are) one I used to watch was 'orange belt kata' for kiom

  • @PrpleWeeble

I suggest you learn oi-zuki, gedenbarai, mae geri and age uke and the kata heian shodan if your working towards your first belt.

But im sure that if you tell your instructor that your lost, you will get the help your looking for.

  • 3rd kata. It's after kihon kata and heian shodan. Orange to yellow grading kata

  • @cchopkins

    yellow to orange moron :/

  • no, this is the second kata

  • is this the 3rd kata? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

  • @treyvs360 no, this is the second kata

  • Red? Not Smurf belt?

  • I have red belt :)

  • I am green belt, i know 4 katas.

  • @MrHellman777 wow ima yellow belt with 2 green stripes and i know 8 katas

  • i'm a white belt and i'v started about 2 months ago, and just today i learned this kata is that good or bad?

  • @omrigurf welll, i have yellow belt, we know two katas, for a white belt pretty amazing, and i also started two months ago, great for a white belt

  • I am teaching this kata now :D

  • the new place your going to might test you just to make sure you meet their standards, i doubt id keep my blue going to another school less i could show them i really deserve it

  • so im an orange belt and this is the next kata their teaching me..

  • Oss

  • @zakaria600

    Written, it's "ossu". ;)

  • ah this man is so awesome he ends very precisely back on the "X" D:

  • booooooooooooooooooooo

    bnbbvnn

  • booooooooooooooooooooo

  • if u practice karate, and the u have to move region (place), can you continue practicing in a new club from where u left or you have to start all over?

  • @L1A9R9A5 nah you can continue from where you left!we just got a new guy in our club and he started with green ;) so don't worry about that that's not a problem at all :D

  • @L1A9R9A5

Id guess you could carry on from where you started, if you know what youve learned

  • This is the yellow tape kata ??????? =/

  • @AXOL58 belt, not tape and, yes, it is

  • Please take a look at my channel and look at my Heian Nidan kata and say what you think about it :-) it's not as good as this one, but i wanna know what other people think as well.

  • im the best karate fighter ever i have 6 times have won first place in all the cup 6 times

  • oww i miss understood what he ment lol, and yea no doubt it looks perfect well as perfect as you can get a kata, and WOW u are right lol im a 1st dan and i got my orser of heian katas wrong well thats what u get for taking a year off karate its guna be hard to get back into it

  • the first two punches are shudan not jodan..hes doing jodan,,

  • @jackobeam123 what the fuck are u talking about hes not doing heian jodan he is doin nidan, shodan, nidan, sandan, jodan, godan

  • @chikentalen

He's talking about punch level. Saying the first two punches are chudan (stomach level) not jodan (head level) And also the Heian katas go: Shodan, Nidan, Sandan, Yondan, Godan. Again chudan and jodan are target levels.

In my dojo we do it exactly like this so I dunno. Looks really good to me. I mean he is a 10th Dan.

  • @dodongowhoever yea no doubt it looks perfect well as perfect as you can ever get a Kata, and wow ur right i got the order wrong thats bad! im a 1st dan and i got the order of my heian katas well thats what u get from taking 7 mounts of karate, and i just mis understood what he said

  • @chikentalen No worries man. Like Gichin Funakoshi said: "Karate is like boiling water, without heat it will cool." Practice everyday and train hard.

    OSU!!!

  • @dodongowhoever well said

    OSU!!!

  • @dodongowhoever Houeee

  • he's not doing this kata good. i'm doing it better than him.

  • @mada9238 show off!

  • this guy's so ugly! ewww. @mentaltretarderad japanese katas are supposed to show power. its not shotokan. lyoto machida former ufc lightheavyweight champion has studied shotokan for all of his like and uses it in the ufc. he only has one loss.

  • I practice shotokan,

but i search alot of other styles also.

And the most similar kata in an aother style is Pinan Nidan

  • I'm working on this kata

  • Crazy how similar this is to the pattern we do in my tae kwon do class.

  • @Gezhuntite87 yes yes it is. we have TKD students that come to our karate tournements.

  • It should be fist to wrist not fist to fist ! Anyone with experience will notice this !

  • @MyHeartIsYours2Break Master Kanazawa studied under Master Funakoshi-the founder of Shotokan! He's the only karateka ever to have won the ‘All Japan Karate Championships’ 3 times in a row! He's Founder & World Chief Instructor of the Shotokan Karatedo International Federation, with overof 2.5m members . This video was filmed in 1985 & subtle changes have since been made to the katas. You may have been taught differently; that doesn't mean that Master Kanazawa performed the kata wrong! OSS!

  • @Kukluxkklan i use taekwondo because i cant use shotokan.i get panic fighting the blackbelt levels..if i use the same technique i'll be K.O..girls just basically what have disturbed my focus learning shotokan..=P

  • @Kukluxkklan i dont train to get cheap contact with girls.=P.anyway,i really2 had a bad experience training with girls and kids.i overestimate myself in the tournament bcoz i never see the guys fight.the instructor too is girl,so i dont have much confidence.in my first shotokan tournament i use a lot of taekwondo techniques.-__-

  • dont train with girls,it makes you think this martial art is weak and soft.haha

  • shotkan karate is not joke one your a yellow belt or orange thiers no going back gott keep going or else you become weaker

  • hij moet katstand!

  • i learned that at white belt or well im still learning it now im a yellow belt

  • that's my yellow going to orange kata XD

  • this is what i am learning now i already knw heian shodan

  • this is what i am learning now

  • Since a couple of month´s I´m close to start with Karate, less because of the fighting, it´s the philosophie behind it. But I´m a bit afraid of remembering all the Kata´s and steps.. . >.>

    Any comments? thanks.

    btw. nice kata :)

  • @Progwale all i can say is that with a good sensai you wont worry about the kata steps thats for grading, learning the reasons for the moves is what helps to remember the kata and your sensai will no when your ready to go grading any worries talk to your sensai, have fun!!

  • @lilpink3rb3ll thanks to you! I think I´ll go next week to a close Dojo greets!!!

  • e facil esta kata

eu tou a fazer e muito facil verde o sinto hehehe

e bom sempre ter isto aqui na net aprender a fazer

  • I wish I didn't quit, I would of been a black belt by now.

  • @screamolives Same

  • Esse video é bom emmm!!!!!

Melhor video q ja vi na minha vida!!!!

    Valeu japones safado!!!!

  • Lovely.Thanks.Marta Maria Salvador Bahia,Brasil.Black Belt.Happyness.

  • he forgot to mention oss

  • I'm taking Shito Ryu and this kata is pretty similiar to ours. When looking up Heian Nidan Shito Ryu, none looked like our kata. My guess is that we have some Shotokan mixed in with our style? It's cool though, cause my brother takes Shotokan and I take Shito Ryu.
