How cool, I have a wild one that hangs around, feed him/her and I threw a ball out there. I didn't think foxy would play with it but, boy was I wrong. Seem they like to pounce on things, like a cat. @horselady2 I always find it fascinating when I hear of a fox who wants to hang around with humans. Just be sure that since you've desensitized this fox, it is in a safe place with no hunters around. Otherwise it will think it can just go up to any human and expect a ball to be thrown to it when it might get its head blown off by a hunter instead.
This fox is so beautiful! I've seen another one up close before when it sneaked into the backyard at my mom's house and they are true beauties.
I know you take good care of it by your other videos, but I still feel like it would be happier running around around with other foxes and just being wild. : /
@MGTGR123 Thanks but nah, Kevie wouldn't be happier running around with other foxes and fighting for food and territory. She wouldn't be happier risking the chance of catching a disease like rabies. Kevie's never even been in the wild, she would surely die a slow and horrible death from starvation if she was dumped off into a strange place as you suggest. Kevie is quite happy where she is, she gets annual vet check ups, so she gets the best care both physically and psychologically possible.

@SpiritWhiteFox2 I would like to add that 7 years compares quite favorably to the lifespan of a wild fox. Some exotics do quite well in captivity and seem to derive benefits from human company that trolls are not capable of. I'd guess that anything capable of getting along with regular house-pets and training its "owners" the same way a cat does is going to do just fine with realistic expectations/understanding and proper care.
Kevie lives a richer life than any wild fox could comprehend.

Well, most canines are lupines (grey wolf is canis lupus, dog is canis lupus familiaris). Foxes are vulpines, which is a different genus altogether. The vulpine genus is similar to the cat family =D

I am attempting to draw an anthropomorphic fox, but I am not very good and I have a tough time accurately separating the fur colors. The little black patches further screw me up, and then I wondered why a fox has them?

yes you're right, I prefer farm sanctuary were they actually rescue abused farm animals, I also like national dog rescue (uk) and don't make silly videos comparing etc. I have 2 rescued brown doves and a zorzalito thrush but I can't release them because it would be abandoning them and cruel!

I sure am. Those little guys are expensive, though. I'm on a list to get another one in the fall. I'm getting a female this time, so between then and now, my fennec will be getting a vasectomy. I'm not a believer in draconian gonad surgery to prevent reproduction, so he's just getting the two little snips.
I'm sure the new little one will fit right in, especially since Cody is so docile. Just hope they don't get jealous. ;o) Kevie is extremely jealous of my male Shih-Tzu, Marty and vice versa. Neither one of them like to share lap space. ;o)
It's more than likely that 'fight or flight' instinct. You can tell a fox it's alright all you want but you have to show it that you're not going to hurt it. I think both Cody and the new little one with benefit from each other's company and things will work out.
Yeah, your probably right. Though Cody did bite me the other day. He's never bitten out of territorial instinct or aggression. Both times he's nailed me good has been when he's gotten tangled in his leash. I've found that many unnatural objects absolutely terrify him. When he encounters an object that puts him in great fear, but I don't expect it to, that is when I'm most likely to get hurt. Otherwise, he's fine.
I suspect that when Cody got tangled in the leash, he panicked as foxes tend to do. It's part of their flighty nature. For the most part, Kevie's pretty laid back but she does startle pretty easily with sudden movements.
Foxes live hard lives, so nature crafted them to be hyper cautious of everything. Both times when I've been bitten and Cody calms down, he goes limp in my bleeding hands. I think he knew what he'd done and became super submissive in order to avoid retaliation.
Total manic panic is exactly how I would describe Cody's reaction.
I kind of want to bury my face in that fur and snorgle her belly. XD

Local exotic pet laws in Georgia are like that too. That's why I'll consider moving out of state when I'm out of college.
I think foxes fall under Class III of Tennessee law, which doesn't require a state license.

Where I live, we have alot of foxes. The other day one ran right across the front of the truck... For their small size, they can sure fuckin move. lol, when it saw the truck, it went supersonic.

I agree, there are too many of these ridiculous laws. People have put together books full of all of these stupid and often strange laws. I would rather see laws that actually make sense being enforced rather than ones that make it illegal to slurp soup, ring doorbells, and use canned corn as fishing bait.

Exactly.. to me, that's the #1 reason why I started really despising them. They compare cow slaughter to the WW2 holocaust, but yet, they receive pets, claim to adopt them out, and then euthanize 95% of them and then just dump them in alleys and whatnot. yes you're right, I prefer farm sanctuary were they actually rescue abused farm animals, I also like national dog rescue (uk) and don't make silly videos comparing etc. I have 2 rescued brown doves and a zorzalito thrush but I can't release them because it would be abandoning them and cruel!

I sure am. Those little guys are expensive, though. I'm on a list to get another one in the fall. I'm getting a female this time, so between then and now, my fennec will be getting a vasectomy. I'm not a believer in draconian gonad surgery to prevent reproduction, so he's just getting the two little snips.

Cody is full grown at 3lb. I should be able to hold both at the same time. I've got room enough for one on each shoulder. :)
And yes, Cody is extremely docile and very friendly to strangers but very easily startled. Fennecs are the most flighty animals I've ever seen.

It's more than likely that 'fight or flight' instinct. You can tell a fox it's alright all you want but you have to show it that you're not going to hurt it. I think both Cody and the new little one with benefit from each other's company and things will work out.

Yeah, your probably right. Though Cody did bite me the other day. He's never bitten out of territorial instinct or aggression. Both times he's nailed me good has been when he's gotten tangled in his leash. I've found that many unnatural objects absolutely terrify him. When he encounters an object that puts him in great fear, but I don't expect it to, that is when I'm most likely to get hurt. Otherwise, he's fine.

I suspect that when Cody got tangled in the leash, he panicked as foxes tend to do. It's part of their flighty nature. For the most part, Kevie's pretty laid back but she does startle pretty easily with sudden movements.

Foxes live hard lives, so nature crafted them to be hyper cautious of everything. Both times when I've been bitten and Cody calms down, he goes limp in my bleeding hands. I think he knew what he'd done and became super submissive in order to avoid retaliation.
Total manic panic is exactly how I would describe Cody's reaction.
