Antilock brakes can cause that. If you get sideways past a controllable drift anti lock brakes will prevent you from locking the brakes and continuing the direction you were going so you will then continue the direction the car is pointed against your will. Been there done that. Isn't fun. If you are going to screw around have a button or something so you can shut them off.
