The old 5970s were clocked at 720/1010 while the new 5970 is clocked at 900/1200. It's obvious which one is faster which is why the newer 5970 needs to have 2x 8pins rather than the original 1x8pin and 1x6pin. Also, to note that increasing the GDDR capacity will not increase performance but to maintain stability for high resolution confisgurations such as Eyefinity.

This card is sick period. I have th XFX Black Edition 5970 and when I overvolt and overclock it. It owns Crysis at 1920x1200. Alright who's the tard below saying that a Nvidia Quadro is faster then this lol. It only has like 200 shader cores and DDR3 memory. I will think to do install this on a Mac pro, but the reds "bat" holes are very near to the huge vent fan, (2 or 3 cm) so, I need to know what is the function of those, the air enters trough the holes? or the air exits from them?. 775 is fine, but what res. are you looking to play at?, and what type of games?, and are you worried about quality settings?

775 is fine for 4870, 4890, 5750, and 5770 (and lower GPU's of course). (5770's in CF at absolute max for 775), (any higher, go 1156 or 1366).

These are my opinions though, PM me and I'll try help you out, if you want I'll help you build a fresh rig (including keyboard, mice, and monitor, and maybe speaker setup).

badenielsen, nVidia blew ATI away during the first half of 2008, but it never "blew" ATI away ever again. Sure, the GTX 295 may have been top dog, but it NEVER blew away the 5870, 4870 x2, let alone the 4870. However, ATI has blown nVidia away multiple times throughout it's 4xxx series and 5xxx series.
