  • Before trying to correct someone lik so many other ignorant people on here

  • There were safety warnings you cant turn them off i should know seeing as i work at sellafield and they werent using "residual spin down" they had backup diesel generators which kick in after 45-50 seconds but were seeing if thy could keep the power level consistent in between that time like i said it was a conspiracy why do you think they turned down iodide tabs the americans offered them? And left it so late to evac pripyat? Theres plenty of info out there just look for it and read it....

  • Who ever was filming this video must have died shortly afterwords, they were directly exposed to the core's radiation. Our eyes work when light comes off an object into them, so if you are seeing the light, you are also being exposed directly to radiation.

  • It was a conspiracy the russians wanted to test their capabilities for nuclear evacuation why do you think it was built so poorly and why the techniian carried on regardless of safety warnings?

  • @30006714 It was not safety warnings, they actually disabled all of the safety features. The complex didnt run off of its own nuclear power, it still ran off of power lines. They were trying to see if they could use the residual turbine "spin-down" to power the plant incase the power went out. However, in order to do this, they had to disable the automatic control rod drop when the power goes out.

  • Humans are fucking lost

  • What that red at 0:43

  • @fatcat1285 exposed core ._.

  • this was one expensive sightseeing flight - all aboard received lethal dose of radiation and died soon afterwards

  • B4 no one really cared bout power plants then an enployee didn't do his job and exploded the nuclear plant and now ever since then people have been more careful of power and nuclear and energy plants if that guy didn't mess up this wouldn't of happened and Chernobyl us getting korinteend for the next 200 years!!!!!

  • @5150gamer i think from documentries iv seen most of helicopter pilots died aswell as one of the techiques used to reduce the radioactive fallout was to hover above the rector and throw sand, cement etc on the top of it. Watched k19 the widow maker the other day alot of poor guys died unfortunatley in that accident aswell

  • is that the molen glowing reactor you can see!?!?! If im not mistaken I read somewhere that one of the first planes to go over it and photograph it recieved so much radiation that all the men aboard fell ill shortly after landing and died the next day. Illinois has the most nuclear plants then anyother state and things like this make me nervous to live there. But the progression twords green energy is moving fast so that is good atleast. We need to convert faster though

  • @Duncan7599 From what I know, they didn't forget to do anything, they were testing the safety of the reactor by cutting off coolant to it or something, and obviously it didn't go over too well.

  • I don't speak Russian but I bet what this guy was trying was "who the hell left the stove on????"

  • The Chernobyl workers had forgotten the golden rule of workers in dangerous factories: "Remember! Wrong moves cause explosions!

  • what year was this?

  • @usukker '86

  • @aehedfuq oh ok, i was barely born, thats why i dint remember lol

  • Look now I'm glowing

  • 0:31 You can see the BURNING reactor fuel.

  • @pidgeoncircus you could be alot more polite you know, your not doing us british any justice

  • are these the pilots that crashed from the radiation?

  • @sonofthesouth11 I dont think they crashed from the radiation I think they hit a construction wire or something..

  • @ggimenes holy shit its screaming XD but fron what i heard when the reactor blew up that the radiation levels at the time was 1500 or 15000 retrogens one of those two and there was a fireman who went in there and died with in 30 mins o.o

  • Where the hell you get this footage??? :OOOO

  • I WOULD NOT FLY OVER THAT!

  • next time dont steal from the transformers

  • @UrbanVapo - It's horrible isn't it. Countries started to pick up increased background radation in their coast lines aswell. I don't think the russains quite believed what they had done.

  • the most fucked up part is that the soviet union hid this event from the world for a few days

if it wasn't for the American satellites picking up the heat from the sight they would of kept it secret for a Lot longer, causing even more damage

in those few days the radiation was circling the earth and innocent people bathed in it

CCCP also took their time to evacuate people

the last children were driven away from Chernobyl a few Months later

the way Russia handled the situation was inhumane.

  • @UrbanVapo

Yes, that is why USSR has collapsed. Lost too many lives? too much prestige and too much money.

  • @UrbanVapo

Actually, it wasn't American satellites, it was a Swedish nuclear power plant that detected excess radiation on it's workers.

  • THAT SOUND WAS GEIGER COUNTER?????

  • Look at this place...Fifty thousand people used to live in this city. Now it's ghost town... I never seen anything like it

  • @kalafatu i watched it and i wasnt shocked...

  • @SATANzSiNz you wernt because you wernt the pilot or the reporter or the thousands of peple living in chernobyl, but assuming by your name i figure your some ignorant devil dick sucker anywho...

  • @joelswenson92 lmao gtfo troll

  • A look into the depths of HELL!

  • @fuzzywzhe Im pretty sure Americans know better then everyone the power of Nuclear energy. I mean we were the first to harness it BITCH!!

  • @dylanMcpainHaines66 American SCIENTISTS maybe, but dumb asses like you? No. You don't get any of the credit of "harnessing nuclear power" by being american. In fact, I doubt you could even tie your own shoe laces. Now, go clue up on these sort of things before opening your silly fat gob, okay?

  • high radiation damaged this videotape....

  • this guy's ballsy for flying that close...probably cooking from the inside and he didn't even know it

  • Why is there so many people getting mad at one another? Just chill out, and pray for those who documented and risked their lives to give you this footage! If someone here is being ignorant ignore them! They just want attention. And you should be giving that attention to those who lost their lives in Chernobyl.

  • This tape is here for memory of one of the worst disasters in Earth's history and all you people can do is complain and argue over whether the US or UK's population is more ignorant? A man lives 80 years and granted the gift of life just to waste his time arguing with others on youtube.

  • Red glowing graphite!!! View into hells fire!

  • all men in helicopters that flew over the open reactor most likely died with in a few weeks, MAYBE months. so sad.

  • @HeffernanProductions Actually a few are still alive today, I guess they are the lucky ones.

  • @HeffernanProductions they all died in next 2-3 days cuz at that moment when the shit blowed up and they came some hours later there was so much radiation they just died very very fast!!! they payed with their lives for thoes pictures!

  • The man in the chopper: "What you see is a plant #2 chimney. To the right is a control center of the power unit #4. Turn it on! Higher! There! Hold it steady there! Keep it where the smoke rises! Where the smoke is! Keep it there! Hold it like this." Voice behind the camera: "What you see is a very rare footage. These red-hot spots is a graphite stacking. Its high temperature caused a powerfull updarft that carried radioctive particles from the well of the reactor."

  • exposed radiocatvie bar... my moms grandpha went there and cleaned all up with meny other ppl and save our lives, sadly he died few weeks later...

    LV

  • That plume look familiar? anybody? X 4 in Japan.... and that scream of ionization events at the end on the geiger... wow... sounds just like the crickets and frogs in my backyard.

  • look it was not so longago they are dummys that is all dummys

  • i hate it when one of the top rated comments is a reply to another that i have no chance in finding

  • Being ignorant is an American trait.....last time I was over the pond I lost count of how many times I was asked if I knew the prince, lived in a castle and whereabouts in London Manchester was....they are stupid cretins.

  • @TheRascolians I always thought all you people lived in castles.Have you ever hugged the queen or shook the princes hand??

  • These people died of cancer... Straight up.

  • Its sad how 895 people likes this.

  • Everybody on the film crew was dead a week later.

  • Anybody wanna blame the crooked russians? This did occur during the fall of the iron curtain. Even modern history suggests they are still crooked. Feel bad for the many good Russians and the obvious victims.

  • Anybody wanna blame the crooked russians? This did occur during the fall of the iron curtain. Even modern history suggests they are still crooked. Feel bad for the many good Russians.

  • Does being uninformed through no fault of their own mean someone is ignorant? I think not.

  • @xrt199 being uninformed is pretty much the definition of ignorant.

  • So these guys died I suppose.

  • The orange "glow" is the exposed reactor core.

  • ¿Que tanto alega ese cabrón ruso?

  • respect to igor kostin he mokes the video

  • They knew there was radiation but nobody was sure how bad it was at the beginning, what had initially happened. The Soviets didn't even admit it until six days later when European countries began to detect that radiation from the accident and were freaking out. If this guy is still alive, it's extraordinary, because the amount of radiation escaping from that reactor core was enormous.

  • at 0:43 is that a man?

  • @TheCrabMan02 No, that is the core burning. Notice the lid is laying sideways over the reactor. At an angle going from top right to bottom left. The glowing material is the radioactive core.

  • dead men flying

  • @PineapplePwincess you need to remember that one of the prominent soviet scientists, academic legasov, who's voise you hear in this video, was not stupid PineapplePwincess - even so very "long ago". also, he would die from hanging himself, not from "poisoning". fully yours, C.O.

  • Well hope they kept the door closed... At least they werent at the area where " after 40 minutes of unprotected exposure your flesh would start to fall of"

  • @NkAExcecuter

Igor Kostin, who made this video, opened the door. He said, it was like flying in the universe, when he turned out for some seconds.

He didn't know how danger it was.

But 2006 he was still alive though he was a reporter who made more pictures from the catastrophe and helped during the clean-up. Three other reporters were already dead.

  • Man who would fly over a reactor?? Especially one pouring out radiation. At leat the werent at the place where people had to wear special clothing to protect them from the millions(or thousands if im wrong) where after 40 min of unprotected exposure ur body would start to fall to pieces

  • @PineapplePwincess "you need to remember how long ago this was and the people had no knowledge of what radiation was or that it was harmful."

    HAHAHAHA.

1986 wasn't the beginning of the nuclear era! They knew as well back then what exposure to radiation would do as they do today.

"No knowledge of what radiation was or that it was harmful".... You must be an American to be this stunningly ignorant.

  • @fuzzywzhe Why is it that everyone keeps thinking that all americans are so ignorant, especially considering that we are one of the most technologically advanced and overall educated countries in the world, the first to even attempt to educate all of its citizens.

  • @rehsa2194 "Why is it that everyone keeps thinking that all americans are so ignorant, especially considering that we are one of the most technologically advanced and overall educated countries in the world"

We may have remarkable scientists, but not the best.

I am commenting on the general education of the general American populace. 1986 isn't "long ago" with respect to knowledge of radiation exposure.

Americans ARE stunningly ignorant, it's just a plain basic fact.

  • @fuzzywzhe People the world over are pretty stunningly ignorant. Don't kid yourself, it isn't just an American phenomenon.

  • @fuzzywzhe and limeys ARE STUNNINGLY gay, it's just a proven scientific fact. So fuck off motherfucker cause Americans new radiation was dangerous in '86 . Stay in your heard sheep and dont try to use one of the most IGNORANT forms of human behavior patterns known as STEREOTYPING to define an entire group of people based on the dumb ass comments of one or two individuals.

  • @blackreagan "and limeys ARE STUNNINGLY gay, it's just a proven scientific fact. So fuck off motherfucker cause Americans new radiation was dangerous in '86 . Stay in your heard sheep and dont try to use one of the most IGNORANT forms of human behavior patterns known as STEREOTYPING to define an entire group of people based on the dumb ass comments of one or two individuals."

I'm an American, and I live in Silicon Valley, California.

    I stand by my statements.

  • @fuzzywzhe cool, then speak for yourself. Its not worth arguing about

  • @fuzzywzhe Stunning use of spelling and grammar here old chap...

  • @fuzzywzhe Furthermore many if not most of the super critical mass experiments that were conducted to learn about lethal doses and amounts of radioactive materila were where? america los alamos new mexico, the first nuclear reactor was built where? Chicago illinois, and yes these advancements and were done in the 30's and 40's so of course by the 80's they knew of the dangers of radiation. Only an idiot would believe that ignorance is an american trait, any more than any other nationalities.

  • @fuzzywzhe not all americans are as stupid as him so labeling all americans ignorant only makes you ignorant yourself

  • @Blackhawk5656 Hey, listen.

I live in this country. I happen to live in Silicon Valley.

There is no question that Americans are the most scientifically illiterate people in the developed world. It's obviously clear this is true. There's no creationist movement in Europe, or Russia, or India, or China, or Australia, or New Zealand - but there is here.

  • @fuzzywzhe instead of living in this shit country then instead of bitching about it why dont you move to europe and have basiclly no freedom in some countries

  • @Blackhawk5656 "instead of living in this shit country then instead of bitching about it "

I'm not bitching about the country, you moron, I'm bitching about the morons that live in it.

I'll leave when the country collapses - in 2-10 years, after the dollar is decimated, and you idiots elect another moron president who, whether Republican or Democrat, will continue to do exactly the same thing the last moron did.

I pass the points test, and am in high tech, I've already got that in order.

  • @fuzzywzhe Oh don`t feel left out. We have our own loons in Europe too.

  • @RashidDostum False. Ignorant people only preside in the USA , nowhere else on the planet. It's true cause I said it. I said it cause I'm told to hate America because stuff. Even though I live there.

  • @fuzzywzhe Records show that workers at the plant did know, roughly. So did the firefighters. But many liquidators were shipped in with little or no information, and those living in Pripyat were for the mostpart blissfully unaware of the dangers. Even being in the 'nuclear era', there'd never been this kind of accident before, and nobody truly understood its effects. Residents gathered to watch the events unfold, exposing themselves to lethal doses. Read about the Bridge of Death.

  • @fuzzywzhe fuck you piece of shit. you can insult individuals all you want but dont ever fucking insult a country-least of all america.

  • @fuzzywzhe You would be ignorant to assume that ignorance is an American trait.

  • @thehousefox It's strange that people make these general statements and make themselves appear so dim witted. I'm betting he is from the UK. They seem hung up on hatred for the states via youtube.

  • @thehousefox but it is...

  • @Godslayer1992 That sir would be hyperbole. While generalizations are important, applying an intellectual trait to an entire population based on geographical location would seem extremely ignorant. That's like me saying people from france are stuck up? Or english people are dumb, or mexicans are quick learners...

But what I say does not matter, because you are a troll :D

  • @thehousefox so u asume im troll? xD whatever man...

75% americans are fat lazy assholes

  • @thehousefox

No, he is right. You really are dumb.

  • @ingelaaaaaa Youre a fucking DUMBASS

  • @thehousefox It is an American trait genious.

  • @RandomNinja267 We're not the retards who made a lake using a nuclear bomb.

    Just sayin.

  • @fuzzywzhe Even though that MOST American's aren't ignorant, I agree with what you said.

  • @fuzzywzhe Its true! Do you really think that they REALLY understood what the dangers was? An invisible force that just causes you to die? Please. Do explain for me how radiation works! (I do know, but it's hard to REALLY grasp it without deep knowlage in the stuff). The soldiers had no choice, no, but they didn't know aswell.

  • @MrComradeCommissar "Its true! Do you really think that they REALLY understood what the dangers was?"

Yes. They knew what a lethal dose was, back in the 50s. There have been accidents with attaining critical mass by dropping plutonium warheads - the compression causes it to reach criticality due to the shock of impact.

What happens is that it kills all you cells, they stop multiplying but they continue work mostly, as dead cells, and you die.

  • @fuzzywzhe yes they knew back in the 50 yes that is true

  • @fuzzywzhe what is this AMERICANS ARE stupid shit?? If I'm so fucking stupid, how come I'm 28yrs old, living in a $535,000 house, dont have to work, but I do..and my hobbie is rebuilding and racing air cooled Porsches? Rest of the world is so fukin smart huh? How come you live in your own filth? Sounds like you're the fukin stupid one!! HAHAHAH I LOVE BEING A RICH AMERICAN, I PISS ON YOU!

  • @fuzzywzhe got a problem with america? just shut up, no need to be stereotypical. everywhere you go, you find idiots. If you were saying things like he was a 12 year old angsty whatever or something like that then i don't give a shit but there was no reason to get stereotypical and insult america.

  • @ICETEEBAG "got a problem with america? just shut up,"

Yeah, fuck the constitution! What an "american" you are!. Haha.

  • @fuzzywzhe Way to take shit out of context just so you can say something against me. Just goes to show how great your country must be. Now quit all this bullshit and own up to the fact that you are an asshole and you're sorry. After you've done that we can get this all behind us.

  • @ICETEEBAG Really, I just don't care what you think.

  • @fuzzywzhe Douche Bag Mother fucking COMMUNIST!!!!!!

  • @MilwaukeeSDman You die motherfucker !

  • You bastards write here all garbage ... These people are heroes, they saved the world from nuclear disaster. Almost all of them died, in order that their descendants would have lived in the pure land. Anyway, I'll look like in another country will be competing with a similar problem. All of you bastards who call the liquidators - bio-robots.

  • @02Sibalex I know that I ment for the douche that is insulting america..... I know they saved many generations but with the fuckbag Fuzzywzhe Its not the country thats the problem its the countries GOVERNMENT!!!! I hate the FUCK out of it.....I think there will be a revolt....and if there is Im fighting against THE MAN!!!! Fuzzyfuck doesnt know that its The man thats the problem....

  • @fuzzywzhe The people sent in to clear it up werent aware of how much radiation there was. The detectors they had all went off the charts and the officials assumed they were all faulty *roll* it wasnt until more sophisticated equipment arrived days later that showed the real readings were insane. The russian government played it down and told the workers that it was safe so they would go in and stop the fires and seal up all the drainage. those men saved a lot of lives, if not their own.

  • @fuzzywzhe And you must not be an American say such stupid sayings as stunningly ignorant. Ha! Lame ass. America Invented nuclear technology.

  • @fuzzywzhe Really? What does it matter if he is American?

    I am and I'm not ignorrant. (;

  • @fuzzywzhe Say something else. See if we don't go to your trashy country and start a war! Now that, is an American trait. Moron...

  • @xoCrackAox Sorry, citizens don't control who our politicians decide to invade. Congress does that. And they flip-flop all the time on their stance on certain issues regarding invasions. So, please don't associate the normal citizens with the ignorant and the government. Most of us are actually quite nice.

  • Comment removed

  • @xoCrackAox I was just making a point off of your comment for others to see mainly. It wasn't an attack at you. Sorry for not clarifying.

  • It's okay. And I am very well aware of the rules of war. SOME people are not. We are very nice people too.

  • @xoCrackAox Unfortunately in this day and age, the media portrays countries they want them to be perceived and the ignorant hear it and think they're the smartest cookies in America.

  • @cman7711 Okay... But I was a beast in AP Government and U.S. History. I know my shit. It just makes me angry that people who have never been here think they know everything about Americans. They don't, they're just slaves to the media and believe everything they see.

  • @xoCrackAox You're obviously some retarded CoD player,i can see that much. America is not invincible. You're the moron here.

  • @RandomNinja267 Oh fuck you. For your information, I'm a girl. And I fucking hate video games. Duh! Of course America isn't invincible. Thank you Captain Obvious. Now why don't you go on to something more relevant. And it's called patriotism asshole!

  • @xoCrackAox lol well in that case your still an idiot. I never said you were a guy (Don't know where the whole girl thing came from). Who said an american trait is to start wars? Look at WWII, We were bombed first,Look at the War On Terror, that followed after 9/11. We don't start them, we end them.

  • @RandomNinja267 It was a friggin' joke! Where is your sense of humor? And you and I both know we're nowhere near ending this stupid fucking war. Looks like you contradicted yourself. You say America is not invincible, and yet can end wars. The last time we ended a war was like over 60 years ago! We can't even decide whether Obama was born here or not! This is why that idiot fuzzywzhe thinks Americans are ignorant!

  • @xoCrackAox I never said we ended that war,i was saying we don't start wars. We have done a good deal of damage to terrorism as it is. War shouldn't happen ever decade for a single country, that isn't very right. fuzzy was saying we are ignorant because we merely guess on everything rather than learn about the truth, and you are right about the Obama thing. I apologize if what you said was a joke, and i'm sure i would be able to pick up the humor if i could see more than blank text.

  • Comment removed

  • @RandomNinja267 Dude, do you really think they started this war? Do you honestly believe that the gov't and military couldn't find OBL for 10 freakin' years? They knew where he was. And now they've got our men and women in uniform running around the desert chasing people who "want" to do die and want to take as many people with them as they can believing in reward they'll get 72 virgins. This war has and will always be about oil and idealogical differences. It's never going to end.

  • @xoCrackAox Do you have any proof that this conflict is all about oil and idealogical differences? Have you seen it yourself and not off of wikipedia or from paranoid idiots? They actually do want to die,why do you think some use themselves as human bombs? You have no proof stating we knew where he was, besides an idiotic, and illogical thesis. People like you just want to blame our government for any reason you can find, without any evidence to prove your point.

  • @RandomNinja267 Take it straight from the military. We can track people with cell phones and find them. This guy was hiding in a city in Pakistan! And you don't have any proof either! Are you retarded? Then tell me, why are we over there? We found Hussein, we found Bin Laden. It's been 10 years? Our economy is shit, it's growing...at an astronomically slow rate compared to China. Wasting money and military... Let's just stop thinking about...it's fucking depressing dude.

  • @RandomNinja267 And the government is corrupt! You know it & I know it. I'm not blaming them for every fucking problem, I know people are responsible for their own shit, case and point people on welfare think they're entitled. But gov't is responsible for most shit indirectly. What I'm going to do is make my money. From the words of a Marine, that's all you CAN do. Like I said before, it's depressing. So noowwww....let's stop talking about it. This time for real.

  • @RandomNinja267 wow US is really full of ignorant brainwashed rednecks republicans who really think they are heroes and do the right thing and their government is so perfect... and i thought its just talks... seems like the dude u was arguing with is x10 times more logical with his information which u would probably consider propaganda rather than u having nothing to say, no arguments for wars or killings of innocent ones just "terrorism" right? yeah i know rednecks are dumb, no need to show it.

  • @fuzzywzhe Youre a fucking cunt

  • @fuzzywzhe Right on!

  • @fuzzywzhe The workers had no idea what was going on...they were not told how dangerous it was.

  • @singinginthepain i honestly doubt that anyone survived to tell that

  • Comment removed

  • Is there an English transcription of the dialogue? Sounds like they suddenly realized the incredible danger and shouted at the pilot to get the hell out of there!

  • @ElRamos dialog short version. it's the fourth reactor... hold camera pointed where smoke comes from...

  • When this happened my parents were alive and they survived it(they lived in ukraine, pochaiev)

  • I'm sure these guys flying over probably knew there was radiation in the air and they were risking their lives going over it but at first I don't think they knew exactly how much radiation was present. When you are filming the molten uranium and can see it from the sky, that means you are probably in some serious trouble. These guys were heroes though, for the most part they knew what they were going into.

  • To bere dech...

  • @bluetoaster8822 the helicopter guys dident stop it , it was 2 other Guys that did swim down in the water below the reactor

  • i cant belive that it gonna take over 100 tousand years before the radiation is going to be gone!

  • Just heard a interview of of the man in the chopper. Only one survived the others in the chopper are already dead

  • Flawed design compared to today's reactors and their safety standards.

  • The guy below me; fail. It's been controlled in countless reactors powering nations all across the world for decades, and we've only had what, three major accidents, that's if you count Three Mile island, which had nearly no harmful effects. Chernobyl was an exception, where a combination of lazy design and political bias (due mainly to a poor management infrastructure) meant that a very serious disaster took place. The reactor there was below safety standards then, it looks like a deliberately

  • @10tacle21

Excuse my directness but you are the definition of an idiot: uninformed, hasty and irresponsible. The list of accidents in (western!) nuclear facilities is long, and it's pretty likely that these reported incidents are nothing but the tip of the iceberg.

The longterm effects of radioactivity are widely unknown. No one can say for sure how it will influence our genetics and evironment over time. And then there's the waste. But I fear these things are beyond your mental capacity.

  • @TheFluktuationAcht okay, please dont verbally abuse me, because i didnt abuse you, only your logic. firstly, you dont know me, and trust me, im not stupid. im applying to oxford university to study physics, i dont want to brag but im judged by my school as very likely to succeed. in case you dont know, oxford is the best university in britain; basically, im not stupid, not by a long shot. i fully understand the risks and limitations of nuclear power; i know that radiation is dangerous, but...

  • @TheFluktuationAcht we actually have a good understanding of its effects. we know how to deal with certain levels of radiation contamination should they occur, and we know how these levels will affect human health, to a certain extent. what i was saying is that nuclear reactors aren't bombs, and that nuclear power is our best bet, what with climate change staring us in the face. the high level waste is an issue for sure, but that is not beyond my mental capacity, as you so kindly put it.

  • @TheFluktuationAcht fission power should be seen as a stop gap on the road to perfecting nuclear fusion technology, a goal we should reach before the storage of high level waste becomes an issue. if space underground does run out, then i suggest that we eject high level waste into space. costly yes, but necessary.

this long list of "accidents" that you refer to has clearly escaped my attention, but i suspect you might be referring to the spate of failures in testing of reactors during the 70s.
